@demiurge That's interesting, but once you get many players won't it get confusing to not know who is responding to whom or follow the conversation at all, especially if there's more than one going on?

Not to say that confusing is a bad thing necessarily.

Yes. It's supposed to be confusing. It's supposed to be a cacophony. You're not really supposed to have a coherent exchange. It's supposed to be stream of consciousness, emotive, etc, but definitely not coherent.

I'd just advise keeping full (non-anonymous) records somewhere even if staff aren't around at the time in case you have to deal with creeps.

You still need to know who called people names, and set limits in your policies about what the cacophony can, and cannot, be about.

I didn't want one that will upload to the forum because I don't want to overload our hosting space. Just like we don't really upload images, etc. much.

The real reason we don't host either is because I really, really, really don't need to imagine what y'all will upload to my poor server given a chance.

@sunnyj said in Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E):

The idea in Masquerade is that without strict ethos the Beast always prevails, and unlife is shock full of philosophical deathtraps, enough that vampires opt to travel time tested roads instead of venturing into the woods of whateverIwantness.

In my head canon it's pretty simple - being a Vampire is about the long game. Everything is measures on a different time scale since you stick around for so long; even if there's one chance in a thousand you'd yield to temptation, well, you're going to be around for centuries, and be exposed to thousands of different scenarios. You need to have something to hold onto else your moral downfall is inevitable (and, in fact, it's inevitable either way).

In the long term you'll always do something horrible.

@Arkandel - Not 100% on the big plot yet. You played on Descent, briefly. What do you think I do differently? Cause I look more at whether it's oocly repressive and terrible than 'will I like the metaplot' when I look at places.

Well I think you are trying to innovate, and that's a good thing. I don't want to litter your staff-recruitment thread with suggestions though because that's not what it's about - I'm just saying finding people (for me) is easier when there's something to sell. What drove you to create a new game? What do you want to do that gets you excited when you think about it?

Nothing gets me more into a game than feeling the person running it is into it. I just need to know why.

If this is off topic please let me know.

What's City of Shadows planning to do differently than other nWoD MU*? What would you say - in terms of gameplay, features, direction etc - should make someone excited to staff on this game specifically?

@pyrephox said in Development Thread: Sacred Seed:

@arkandel I think they've talked about something like that before earlier in the thread, with monsters apparently finding Seeded /extra tasty/, and therefore tending to be attracted to and desperate to munch on Seeded out in the wilderness, etc.

That could work and mechanically it's not that complex to implement.

For example certain monsters could feed just off of the very presence Seeded but be weakened (poisoned?) by that of Seedless. So say a Tentaclewolf attacking two Seeded will gain +2X to its rolls while fighting them, so that a third Seeded joining the fight would only strengthen it even more to +3X. But if they bring three Seedless along instead the bonus is decreased to zero or even becomes a penalty, incentivizing bringing those guys over instead of just making Seeded-only parties.

@coin I obviously don't know what your thematic goals are, but mechanically you could address this by making Seeded be an expensive trait or one that encourages specialization, then to reward well rounded characters.

Otherwise there are ways to balance these things out (if balance is a goal that you have at all, which isn't a given) by making specific kinds of enemies or even environmental hardships that affect Seeded far more than Seedless, encouraging the former to seek out the latter as much needed allies more than simply plucky sidekicks.

@packrat Depending on your use case (do you want it for MUSHing and internet browsing or are you going to do actual gaming?) I'd either go for a used one or for a Chromebook with a keyboard perhaps. If you go the used route try to make sure you can return it within a reasonable amount of time if you spot things you can't check for at the store - such as a bad battery for example.

I love my laptop, it was a Christmas present, but I'd never sink a lot of cash into a machine that's not as fast as a desktop for the same bang for my buck.

@thenomain I read an interview by the series' showrunner and director a few days ago. She seemed super excited to be doing this, calling Buffy "her generation's Star Wars".

There's no way to tell yet if it's going to be any good of course but usually where there's passion good things can happen. I'm optimistic.

    • RE: RL Anger

We have this one customer with whom we've got a weird relationship which comes down to everyone walking on eggshells around them, and we're trying really hard to not leave anything to chance, make no mistakes and give them no excuse to complain.

A week ago I made a small change to one of our scheduled runs for my script; basically it ran an hour earlier. That shouldn't affect anything regarding its functionality.

Now keep in mind I don't believe in coincidences.

So that same night things started getting freaky. Our separate remote logging service wasn't picking up the script's run at all - it was as if it was never ran in the first place, but I could see on local logs that it did run, and the files that it created and transferred.

Not believing in coincidences I started digging in my off hours to figure out wth happened. Then another item came to my attention; a second separate system which looked into a different database to pull some statistics about the script's activitity broke and it was pulling nothing.

Now I got really worried because two coincidences were too many. I went at it harder, broke the script down and went over it line by line to figure out why the hell changing the time would cause such havoc. This took days, and I could find nothing - but the strange thing is neither did our customer. They had no issues.

And then it came to light that each of those two separate systems broke down around the same time as mine... independently.

So it was a coincidence, but I busted my ass before that was clear.

Randomness fucked me over even after I accounted for it.

@jaded What worked for you in the remapping, as you remember? At first I thought it'd be easy (just bind my 2-4 healing spells) but then things kept creeping up; what about the jump key? Sprint? Tab targeting?

And then what about off-spec for quests? I'd need to make sure the same buttons work for both.

Any of you folks use a gamepad to play MMORPGs with?

A friend at work is talking me into using one (he lent me his old G13 for now), and I'm trying to figure out if it's a better experience or not.

Basically my left thumb is on a tiny joystick which was easier to do than I thought it would, but the action keys are what's taking a bit more time figuring out - I use the 1-5 keys usually for skills plus a bunch of modifiers with alt/ctrl for cooldowns and oh-shit buttons.

What is your experience with these devilish things if any?
