    • RE: Fallen World MUX!

This madness of @SunnyJ and @Sunny posting on the same thread must end! Will no one think of the children. 😞

Phew! I finally read all of that. I guess I was wrong.

      @Skaldia said in Kushiel's Debut:

Ok, since it seems Sunny will only address me where her adoring fanbase can cheer her on, let's put on a performance.

This is the only part of it I care to address at this point.

What would you suggest is a more fair place to have a potentially controversial conversation:

      1. A game where one of the parties can get rid of the other parties at will and silence them completely if they so choose.

      2. A forum where everyone is equal and free to express their opinions based on a very loose set of conduct rules.

It's difficult sometimes for game-runners used to having the final word and complete authority to play on a level field but also, sometimes, them's the breaks.

If it makes you feel any better no one on MSB enjoys immunity from criticism for their own screw-ups, and some of us have even become slightly better players (people?) from owning and learning from them from time to time.

@Arkandel You fool. L & L is never drama free! They are high school relationship drama + titles.

      (Also, what is L&L now?)

@Roz I'm kinda okay with it if it's my own dumb fault for checking out the GoT subreddit (which ironically has iron-clad rules and constant moderation against spoiling) or play with fire in general but to open random generic portals on the internet and see "The true reason Ned Stark DIED!" in the article synopsis before even a click... argh.

Wow... I didn't read MSB for like 24 hours and the KD thread exploded in that time?

Shame, that was the drama-free corner of the MU-world in my head.

I hate how spoiler-y the internet gets minutes after a new Game of Thrones episode. It basically forces me to watch it the same night.

I just opened a Yahoo! tab on Chrome and right on the front page they are spoiling what happened tonight. The episode aired what, an hour ago as of now? Come on.

I have decided to play this so-called "Overwatch".

My Blizzard battle tag is Arkandel#2399 . Please keep in mind I'm really bad at FPS (but your mom doesn't think so).

@Lithium Why would you be thrown tomatoes for it?

I'd ignore anyone I didn't want to read from. That's not the issue with @ThatGuyThere, the problem is that I want to but his posts give me a headache. 🙂

Yeah, the game's in an early beta and already the FCs are taken? I'd feel a lot better about it if they'd at least held those characters for game opening, so that people could "audition".

I guess. Actually, no, I don't think I'd ever feel ok with someone rping Hawke while I was playing Random_Apostate_001.

Even a Level 2 Hawke who is schlepping around cheap goods for the Cartel?

That's the thing though, what does a level 2 Hawke add to the game as a whole that an NPC (or otherwise-named PC) doing the same thing wouldn't?

And if he/she is destined for bigger and better things then the concerns about regular characters being secondary ones are more valid.

But you yourself said it took you a while but you understood what I meant. Therefore communication occurred, since this is on a forum and not real time the extra time involved means little.

Does the extra time it takes to add a couple of punctuation marks here and there mean more? This is a text-based medium, it's just a common courtesy.

If the extra time makes you not want to read what I post then don't read it.

Do you think if I didn't value your opinions - some of which I have disagreed with in the past as you noted - we would be having this conversation?

I'm not asking you to type better to insult you, dude. That'd be a low blow, worse even than Webster dictionary-based arguments (and that's saying something). It's not like this is harping on one typo or an isolated badly spelled word - hell, English isn't my mother tongue or anything.

      @Coin
All of those are true but it is also informal communication, so I will continue to not care overly much about it.
and two the only people who have complained are you and Ark, he is a hippy and we agree on very little so don't be surprised if my posting style doesn't change.

None of that makes any sense. I disagree with Coin all the time and we can agree it's not because of his posting style!

And I'm not complaining, I'm trying to understand what you're saying so we can communicate. Yes, this is all part of an informal communication but comprehension still matters; if was hanging out and talking about games in real life but someone was mumbling their words to the point I couldn't tell what they were saying then that, too, would have been an issue.

@Tyche I am not suggesting we should listen to any particular party's politicians more than to politicians from other parties.

I am suggesting we should listen to the scientists who are studying the matter based on, well, science.

I enjoy making characters trust me

Dammit, use punctuation. I read that a couple of times at first trying to figure out what 'making characters trust you' meant.

But also - the rosters idea isn't aimed at people who are able to and enjoy making their own characters. They're there to provide those who don't, or just want to perhaps try a game out for a couple of days without investing anything else than on-grid time yet, the chance to do exactly that.

    • RE: Dragon Age: Smoke & Shadows

@bored To be fair, although I've no problem with FCs in particular, I don't like the exclusivity involved here. It's not like there's a big roster of FCs people get to apply for if they like, it's a very limited number of them and obviously they'd be played by special people. That's often enough a barely obfuscated way of saying "staff and friends".

Just keep them as NPCs if you really need them.

    • RE: The Shame Game

@Lithium The difference is some things aren't opinion-based - they aren't subjective. For example herd immunity isn't subject to well, we can agree to disagree. And it's not like someone is choosing to harm themselves in the privacy of their own home which at worst might raise health insurance rates, but something which harms society as a whole.

Also consider you may want to attract players who haven't played the computer game. It sounds weird but for example comic MU* do get players who don't read comics yet want to play superheroes, or they're there because their friends are, etc.

    • RE: Mud Hosting, for 0 budget?

@DnvnQuinn Even so - for running a MU* the hardware requirements are pretty lax. Running Linux might be your bottleneck though - I don't know if you can run it on Windows, never tried.

But yeah, if you're at zero cost you need to make concessions. It's doable, but not optimal.
