Then yeah, I can see that.

Partly it's a game culture thing (not all MU* treat newbies the same way, including to simply shun them) but it's likely also often a matter of shrinking playerbases in general. When you have 90 people online it's easier to find someone to play with than if you have 20.

@Scissors Are you sure you're not looking at the past through a nostalgic filter?

What you're describing is rather accurate in many occasions but I hardly think it's something that's happened over the last year or even several years.

I had to tell some poor lady that, no...I couldn't do her friend's elaborate wedding cake the next day, let alone in the next hour, this past weekend (frequent occurrence...I do what I can, but
come on...). She thought you "just came in whenever, to get one" and pointed at our styrofoam display cakes =|

So sell her a storyfoam cake! She said she wanted one and pointed right at it! The customer is always right. Duuh.

That infuriated me. Also, is there any good reason to suggest the teenagers involved aren't capable of doing such things to people either now or in the future?

Who the fuck does that. Dammit.

For me it's pretty simple - many of the people I know and like are spread out across different games or not even playing, and the nWoD fare I usually go for tends to be either stagnant or cliquish for my tastes. On top of that few establish MU* really make a thematic pitch where I obsess about a concept and go roll a character there immediately.

Having said that... be the change you want in the world and all that. Since I've a RP itch to scratch again I'll put some feelers out. 🙂

I don't know who Lextius is but just from that, I hate him.

Alright, I don't hate him, but damn is that ever the wrong way to run a game. Punish your players for playing intelligent, proactive characters. Good job there.

You give me too much credit if you think I intentionally left anything out. 🙂 I'm more careless than I am insidious.

@Three-Eyed-Crow I stand corrected. Yes, it's true there may well be a lurking silent majority around here but my statement only referred to my expectations going by simply reading posts.

So let's put the theory to the test? I made a poll here and populated it with @Alzie's list going by concepts which got more than one 'vote' so far - it's still a pretty generous selection. Some stuff obviously overlaps but eh.

So this poll is free, no login necessary, just click and submit. Please pick what you actually think you'd play, not stuff that you like in theory but proooobably wouldn't. 🙂

Kilgrave would find it hard to lose against non-superhuman opponents. Unless someone's sneaky enough to do it before he can talk to them first.

It's funny because after (despite?) all this, 90% of the MU* any of us here will produce or play on will be WoD ones.

Jessica Jones is excellent. I haven't watched the entire season yet (I'm currently at episode 6 I believe?) so I won't try to judge it as a whole but for now it's easily the best Marvel series I've watched simply because it goes from strength to strength. Its characters grow in a realistic way, its plot is solid and doesn't rely on superheroing gimmicks too much - if anything it's pretty low-powered for a universe where cities are being lifted to the skies then dropped as bombs, and the cast is top notch.

Furthermore I need to give kudos to the Netflix format. Without having to care about dragging viewers along and stretching plots there are no filler episodes, no monster-of-the-week distractions; the writing just goes for the jugular and doesn't let go.

Now, eventually it'll be more diluted - we know there'll be a Defenders series, Daredevil crossovers, etc - which can be a good or even great thing based on how it's pulled off but it'll still loosen the single-minded cohesion of the story focused on the impact Kilgrave has had on people's lives.

Speaking of the Purple Man, I really like him as a villain. His power is so simple, extremely easy to understand. And he's... wonderfully petty and psychopathic - he doesn't care about ruling the world, eradicating mankind or building underground lairs. He just wants what he can't have just to feel what it's like. Maaarvelous.

@Thenomain Since the debate is about which fictional homicidal, sadistic psychopath is the worst, I don't think your opinion holds less weight than anyone else's.

I never got into the books, and it sounds like quite a bit of OOC knowledge about its nations and political situation is pretty much required to play well. It's my barrier to entry or I might have given it a try.

Maybe after I'm done with the Malazan series. 🙂
