    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

Echoing @tez and @tat, when I leave a game for good (in those cases where I am still invested in the characters I'm playing) it has almost always been due to

      1. staff malfeasance or behaviours that I find toxic or unethical and
      2. being utterly unable to then get away from those people and just do my own thing in a corner with people whose RP I still enjoy, playing characters I still love.

There have been games where I haven't become invested due to any number of other reasons (sterile atmosphere, obnoxious players, setting didn't click for me). But when I love a game and leave it anyway... it always comes down to no longer feeling comfortable condoning the game and/or staff by remaining there. Once it gets to that point, the bridge is burned for me.

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

@arkandel That's the thing. I trust both you and @Ganymede to give legitimate apologies, apologies which do not blame the people they're offered to, when you realize you've fucked up. People make mistakes and I have a lot of respect for those who know how to function after doing so. That is a huge component of being a reasonable adult and people who can and will constructively apologize automatically go high on my respect list.

It doesn't matter what the error was, if someone can approach me and apoligize like a grown-up, I will be willing to hear them out on whatever else. I think that's true of many people here because we do collectively have a lot of experience with being in this situation (both staffing and in fucking up).

I also think this situation makes it clear @auspice does not have that ability. She had several opportunities. She chose to use them in questionable fashion. But it's still salvagable if she puts the work in.

      @arkandel

@auspice could give an apology that does not shift the blame to people who rightfully went, "Wait what no." As @Sparks has said, this is a board which exists in part to hold those with staff powers accountable for their mistakes in the hopes they improve. That would show an effort being made to improve, instead of her blasting the non-mod posters for not reading her mind and the other mods circling the wagons around her.

We have seen this script play out far too many times to accept it quietly.

Reason for edit: Typos, my fingers are cold.

@auspice Knock it off, this is not helping. You are displaying behaviours which make you appear unfit to hold a moderator position on a board like this one.

    • RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)

@tempest I haven't looked at the Gotham thread. That setting doesn't interest me and I do prefer mutants. But for a good chunk of characters to be claimed a month+ before a game opens, yes, that would bother me too.

@wolfs Yes, I acknowledged it was offered here. I do not agree with the concept of "perks or side benefits" just for being a member of this board, however. I'm a stick in the mud that way.

Disclaimer: I don't think the staff set out to be unfair, or are unfair. Mostly I think it's a side effect of the wave of excitement and anticipation for and of their game. People get excited, you get excited, and you want to extend that wave because it's giddy and fun.

@ixokai I agree, it is a very fine line and I'm not sure I can explain it beyond saying that it feels like there is a difference (to me).

      My knee-jerk feelings:
Open game + bring on the pitches = level playing field.
Game not open + not accepting reservations = level playing field.
Game not open + accepting reservations = not a level playing field.

Overall it is not a very important distinction because again, I don't play FCs. I could have PMed the staff here and put in a reservation if I were an FC player, so those who did have no more of an advantage than I did. But. But. There is something about it that niggles at me and gives me an uneasy feeling. It's an approach that doesn't sit easy with me.

    • RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)

I sort of want to check the game out, I've had a hankering to play a mutant lately. But, while I understand the first come first serve mentality in superhero games, allowing pitches and claims to be made before the game even opened is sort of a turn off. First come first serve makes for a level playing field; allowing pre-open pitches and accepting them (up to and including having a very large "taken" or reserved list) before opening feels less so. That's probably unfair of me since I don't like or want to play a FC but... it nags at me. I may still have a look.

Riffing off of @saosmash, going back to basics in RP. Having a scene with people I don’t know, with a character and a world that’s new to me, and having them do something dumb because neither I nor my character know any better, and having it just be fun. No one (including me) thinking about OOC reputation, or showboating, or how it might annoy others, or go terribly wrong. Just doin’ stuff, including messing up, and enjoying it because the attitude is yay! Instead of srs.

@paris Possibly because this is the thread about how to improve MSB and its atmosphere, and you're demonstrating why people feel the need to make that push?
