Why should someone have to be a beaten up callused survivor to hang out here? Eesh.
I suspect @HelloRaptor agrees with this to an extent, which is why he left, instead of flipping a desk and complaining that no one was being enough of an asshole and how dare they.

Now now, if I told you, what fun with that be later? Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

They shouldn't. I can see how someone might take exception at what the command is, but if another player is considerate enough to ask (which they don't have to) all I'd be willing to do is discuss the extent of what it does. Saying 'no' is silly. Would/could they say 'no' to being IC punched in the face?
Entirely contextual. On some games, they may, in others, they may not. But it certainly isn't--and shouldn't be--an objective and universal rule of MUing.

I like having my character trick someone else's into something like a Blood Bond, for example, in a subtle way that allows for me to fudge something minor and give them an out. And then I say, "this happened--but if you're not comfortable with that, I have an out to give you if you don't want to play that." It lets me play my character as clever as I envision them (and can manage) without boxing someone into RP they may not want or care to try.

Hemlock Grove has one of the better 'watch a dude turn into a werewolf and out again' images I've seen in quite some time.
ES
And apparently they have one within 90 seconds of the first episode of season 3, so there's that!

Hey gang, I'm getting a new phone in the next few days and my old android 2.2 will be collecting dust. I was wondering if it'd be possible to host a mu on an old cell phone, since they're pretty powerful compared to old 90s era computers when mushes first took off.
Has anyone done this sort of thing?
I suspect the actual space would be an issue, depending on how much hard drive space the phone has. Other than that, you might get a very laggy MU. I don't know.

Once you jump back to your own timeline, Hitler is no longer fucked up. You could just call it all a dream. This is one of the core problems with the New Universe theory of time travel.
Well, yes.
But there is a timeline in which Hitler is fucked up. And you created it.
There could be a dozen.
This leads to the same type of game you and I discussed before, a la The Strange (and would even be a good permutation to play with the Cypher system).

I've always liked the "you create an alternate universe when you go back in time" solution, where the AU starts from the baseline assumption that it's the same as it was in the prime universe, but you can send it completely off the rails by dicking around with it, without invoking any particular paradox. But once you hop to an AU, you're stuck there, so if you go "forward" in time, it's going to reflect the new reality, not your old one (which still exists, but in another universe).
Add a capability that allows some people to jump AUs (or help other people do so) so you can get back to your original timeline--
Except you can't do that at any point in time before the last point in time you were there.
e.g.
On June 4 2015 Earth-2398 I time-traveled backwards to January 3 1945. I stayed there for a while, fucked up Hitler, and saved the world, creating Earth-9675.
But I want to get back home to Earth-2398. I have the ability to "universe hop" and get back...
But I can only do that once I'm in June 4 2015 again. Because otherwise, I would be creating a third timeline (and thus you're not going back to the original).
So you either have to have the ability to time travel forward (likely), or you have to sit and wait. Heh.

Or digital personalities/Artificial Intelligences/Memetic Viruses.
The sci-fi version of being Loa.
I've actually been pretty interested at different times in the opposite: one player controls entire organizations, with a limited amount of PC-level characters that they can control in them. Maybe a group of characters does. Sort of how in RPG video games you control the whole party.
This would be great for world-spanning games about conspiracies and groups trying to fight for control over shit, etc. Plus, it would get rid of "he had his own PC help his other PC!" stuff since yeah, of course he did.
You can alter this to "one player has one PC human and several entities that can possess that human, giving them different powers/abilities/goals".
Or, especially fun for a Demon-only style game: every player has one entity and several humans that that entity possesses/uses depending on what they want to do.
That last one is particularly fun if you can design the humans with different skills and the spirit's boosts to them can change depending. So using nWoD rules as a branching off point: a spirit has a Hacker and a Fighter. When it possesses the Hacker, it probably puts all its Power Attribute levels to boost the Hacker's Intelligence; but for the fighter, it probably boosts the human's Strength with those same points.
I would have a lot of fun with that.

I fixed the plumbing issue in the apartment that made it so I had to cut off the cold water line (basically, the faucet knobs weren't cutting the water off, so I had to fix that because the water wouldn't stop running).
Cue the toilet tank's valve breaking and me having to cut the cold water again because it won't stop leaking like crazy.
FML.
P.S. Still no hot water. Mother fucker.
Down to:
- No hot water;
- Ridiculously cloggy kitchen sink;
- Roaches.
Tonight, I aerosol-bomb the roaches again, this time in high concentrations in the bathroom and kitchen.
After that, it's the long-game.
Moving has been great, guys, no, really. -_-
(I do love being on my own, though. Even if I have unsolicited insectoid company.)

I have to side with @NotaNumber on this. If the background was unacceptable as is just say this is unacceptable please rewrite it. I don't care if it is your hundredth bg you have has to read that day, if you hate reading them then don't require them or if you don't have that power just refuse to do apps.
The "I would dock xp for this but I can't." Thing is pure passive aggression and would get me to drop a place immediately as well.
Now I think backgrounds are mostly a failed tool in general but that is another point entirely. There's no one to side with.
I was simply commenting on a side-subject derived from his complaint. I already said I agreed that he was treated poorly and unacceptably. I don't think anyone is arguing that.

I want a Dark Sun game that isn't a) a MUD or b) house ruled so heavily as to be practically unrecognizable or c) using some weird alternate history theme.
Just straight Dark Sun, at whatever point in the timeline.
This. I used to play the hell out of Armageddon MUD waaaay back in the 90's early oughts. Would love to see a true Dark Sun MUSH to play on now. With work and a kid I AFK for brief moments too much to play on a MUD where perm-death can happen whether you're at the screen or not.
I'd love that too. I really don't have time to grind up a character and deal with "let's do ruff circlez dude" type rp.
I'm excited for the shadowrun 2050 that's coming out too. Shadowrun was where I really got into mushing.
I wouldn't mind an Alter*nity based mush either. Really versatile gaming system that was updated to d20 a few years back.
I mentioned Alternity to @NotaNumber recently. I really loved the alien designs for that game.

While I understand your frustration at being replied to that way, and while I agree that, if your paraphrasing is accurate, they should have been a lot more polite, I can also understand the sentiment of being annoyed or frustrated by someone who writes a background this way.
As someone who has handled countless apps in the past--and a lot of people know this of me--I fucking hate long backgrounds. And writing them as poetry would probably make it worse since I don't like most poetry, and why do I have to read your background in this format when it just makes it more effort for me? It's a game. It's not your weekly writing group. Give me the basics and that's it. You find it boring to write them, but it's equally if not more boring to read them. I would much rather just page with a player and talk about their character history; at least that way I'm engaged.
Honestly, if he'd said 'This is not the kind of app I'd like to see, please rewrite it' I would have done so without complaint. I'd have been a little disappointed maybe, but I was actually prepared for that; it wouldn't have taken much effort to turn what I'd written into two-three paragraphs of explicit 'this is who I am and where I came from'.
It was specifically the 'This makes me want to dock you XP' comment AND the fact that (when I picked up the message) it had sat there for ~4 hours with nothing for me to respond to other than 'This is bad and you should feel bad' as essentially the only response. that's what made me decide that it wasn't worth bothering to continue. My leisure time is a fairly precious resource these days; I've got no desire to spend it interacting with people who are angry/antagonistic... or even who are just bad at communicating, frankly.
Like I said, I understand. I just think it bears mentioning that lots of people don't tend to think about the person that has to read their backgrounds.
