The last few months of Martial Arts and the last couple of weeks of biking to and from work every day are already starting to pay off: face is slimming, muscles are strengthening, and while I felt heavier due to muscle build up at first, now I feel lighter as I start shedding some excess weight. I'm going to see about tightening my diet a bit with less bread and sweets. But I am slowly starting to feel better. So there's that.

Then why should I put any effort into this? 😞

This is why I think an Exiles-style game where people play exiles from different universes, sometimes even mish-mashed a la Amalgam would be great. Just only allow a certain number of "versions" of the same character (like only three Wolverines, or three Iron Men) at a time, give Storytellers the latitude to create, run stories in, destroy, and otherwise do whatever they want with parallel universes and worlds with their own continuity, and let people explore variations in theme and history for characters they like to play but may want to play differently.

I still want to play a Matt Murdock who gets runover by accident by the Waynes after his father is killed, adopted, and then he and Bruce are totally twinsiiiiiiiiiies.

Except Matt is Batman and Bruce is Daredevil. Or maybe Bruce dies and Matt is Devil-Bat.

Oh, how I miss the ham and cheese of the Amalgam universe. SIGH.

ETA: maybe Matt gets adopted by Bruce and he and Dick are twinsies instead, and then when Bane fucks Bruce up--on behalf of the Kingpin, why not!--Nightwing and Daredevil get into brotherly fights over who gets to be the next Batman and Matt is all, "I'M LITERALLY BLIND, HOW DO YOU EVEN HAVE AN ARGUMENT" and Nightwing's just like, "Oh Em Gee you've been playing the blind card since we were ten and it doesn't even actually affect you likeit does actual blind people you're the worst!"

(Cobalt should like this; it's from Welcome to Night Vale. Hell, did someone mention a Werewolf merging of the Strix, a la Pentex?)

WtF2e actually mentions the Strix in a sidebar under 'Tengu'. In a very 'really weird but useful allies sometimes folded into packs' sort of way. They beat us to this one. 😐

There are differences between the Strix and the Tengu. It's probably going to be more of a, "if the ST wants, they can be the same thing, but they aren't necessarily so by default" or something.

Is there? The only tengu reference I know of is the sidebar, so that was really just a "wink wink nudge nudge" as far as I knew.

Their eye-color and implied attitudes are different from those of the Strix, yes.

That sounds... I'm not sure that I would agree, and the complexity needed to be able to list what information you want to find out of a system that incorporates both seems needless when you could make it two different systems. For example, what happens when a large faction, such as a tribe, has more than one Safe Place listed? Does it list them all? Do you need a sub-command to list which ones are there, and then another to get specific details on it? Can you use the system to find out which groups are there? And then get specific information about one of those groups?

+faction gives a quick at-a-glance thing about 'who is a member of what, and how' and +lairs lists out specific holdings and information. I could see it being in a single command, but it would have to be a pretty complex command in order to be able to differentiate things like that, I think.

You're limiting what a command can do absed on prior experience with it, which is inaccurate if you're merging systems and just using terminology.

+faction can be used for Tribes and packs. yes, Safe Place could obviously be separate--you can already have two Safe Places in the same sheet, because they require descriptors.

+faction Bone Shadows would be a separate faction from +faction Elvira's Howling Commandos. Just because +faction does one thing doesn't mean it can't do more things; it's already coordinating the presence of a group; adding that group's details is just efficient.

As to any code-y concerns, I can't answer them, because I don't code. @Thenomain or @Cobaltasaurus probably could.

See, when I think of something like this, I think of an updated version of TR's +lairs. +faction is just, in my mind, an easy way to list all of the members of a certain in-game group, like +faction Bone Shadows, so you can see who is in it (and if in use, what status/title they hold).

Discussions with @Thenomain have brought us to the conclusion that +lair and +faction are really just best merged together into one system, since they do two separate things that relate to each other.

Code to track and tally shared merits.

      Safe Place
      Totem
      Etc

Keeping it all spread out in notes is a pain in the ass. You need a code that can pull the total from a list of players, and in the case of Totem be able to be modified to reflect new traits and benefits.

This would be +faction, probably, from what I've spoken about with @Thenomain.

How about +comm jobs? Something being able to get started, CCed, left and closed by players without staff intervention is invaluable.

That falls under 'basic mu code', Ark.

And yet apparently it's really difficult to implement, or at least time intensive. Having something ready-set-go for games would be amazing, frankly.

Yeah, the idea was that their 'real' name has been lost - or more likely deliberately erased. I think I'll take a crack at rewriting the race entry to make that more obvious...

I like the 'native language is partly-psionic' idea too - I'm totally going to steal that. I may incorporate it into the origin of Human psionics as well - Imperials probably didn't feel the need to encode their communications since psionics are so rare anyway, and so humanity developed a souped-up psionics programme to crack them in the war... like the enigma machine, but with human lives and captured aliens!

Happy to be of service. I love, love, love world-building, so if you want to chat and bounce ideas, ping me.

Maybe they could have, like, a weird psychic language. Maybe they have a very latent telepathy (those with actual Telepathy have to take the power) but they general communicate telepathically with each other and only use spoken language when dealing with "lesser" races. That would set them apart in my eyes a lot more than "bulging eyes". It would be interesting.

The Imperials aren't meant to feel terribly alien physically - they are more alien in culture and capability than in looks. Personally I quite like the idea that they refer to themselves in that way but if the consensus is that it doesn't work I can definitely go back and have another look.

The idea is that, despite their arrogance and certainty about their own superiority... they don't actually know a lot about their own origins. They don't know where they came from, how their technology developed or what their history is - they have a myth, but that just raises more questions than it answers. I may make that more explicit in the writeup. (I have some vague ideas for a metaplot around answering some of those questions, but it'd rely on having a decent amount of Imperial players who, you know... would care 😛 )

I get it. i still think a name for their species would be ideal, but it's not a big deal.

I can totally see a Spec Ops team of Imperials with complementary psychic powers. That would be neat.

I think maybe my one critique (so far) is that the Imperials don't feel like an alien species. You say they look human and refer to them as a race/species, but it's continually referring to them as "the Imperials", which to me doesn't really elicit the same imagery as the others, who are described as alien, given their own alien species name, etc.

I would suggest givine them a name that they call themselves beyond "the Imperials", etc. Especially if you're allowing them as PCs.
