RE: Places to RP
@thebird: Have you tried the RP communities on Dreamwidth? There's a lot of play-by-post forum based rp there. I can provide some links if you want.

RE: Roz's Playlist
I love that he is/was a teen dad. We get teen mom concepts all the time, but when do you see teen dad concepts?
NOW WE DO.

RE: Help With Played Bys
You'd be surprised at how many websites might be common sense for reference. My go-tos?
IMDB, Wikipedia, and Google as a search engine.
In all seriousness, you might think that Wikipedia is a weird choice but if you're just trying to remember "hey who was that guy in that thing and wasn't he in the other thing?" it can be a lot faster and more streamlined than IMDB, though the latter is still helpful. You can also flat out google stuff like "black actors with blue eyes" "redheaded actresses under 30", etc.
Beyond that, it's just an issue of being a pop culture whore. Even if I don't watch a show or have seen a film, chances are I'm aware of it and have probably eyeballed stills. Historical/L&L stuff often gets a bit messy because, well, history (My PB's pic on Arx is from a mini-series set in Ancient Egypt)...
Specifically for L&L though, I've find this site helpful: http://www.recycledmoviecostumes.com/

RE: Where to play?
An awesome example: I indicated my desire to RP on the appropriate chan, accompanied by stating my willingness to toss out a few scene location options and do the opening pose. I promptly had two takers. Sure, it was a super casual scene, but over the course of it I ended up getting a new relationship hook and a new RP buddy, as well as the IC knowledge that someone else was looking into the same mysterious circumstances currently on my character's radar.

RE: LBHeuschkel's playlist (cause why not)
@L-B-Heuschkel
I really miss Esteban and Domingo!(I think all of my current games are no-gos for you, but I hold out hope something will come up that we can share)

RE: The Haul
I got a copy of The Jewish Annotated New Testament. It's amazing. I squealed.

RE: Good TV
@surreality Having watched the most recent ep, I've decided I really like the series; I find it fresh and original (which feels rare these days) and there's equal parts of romance and politics and the like. Your point made was right on, about this being young women in their late teens, striving for what they understand as normalcy, or arguably excellency in the world they perceive to be normal. And the Bechdel Test manages well here.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the level to which the patriarchy is thoroughly smashed on this show.

RE: Sensitive cultural/political/religious aspects of game themes.
I don't feel I have any business defending or critiquing the issue from an LGBTQ perspective, but I can add this to the conversation:
-
on a Victorian London, I played an female Asian business owner, specifically for the challenges that would be brought by the setting.
-
On a post Civil War mush - on various iterations, in fact, I've played Jewish women (which I am, RL), specifically for the challenges involved in playing such a character.
-
I've played a Lost Holocaust survivor, who had to deal with the fact that there were more than one Nazi in the sphere.
-
I've played a Jewish superhero character in an alternate universe where the Axis won. For the alternate universe plot, the suggestion was mine.
So obviously I don't mind settings where playing the status of a character in a despised or disissed minority. As such, what I really think it boils down to: "play it if you enjoy it, don't if you feel uncomfortable".

RE: Brunocerous' Playlist
I liked Luke a lot, but can't say I blame you given what a Hot Mess the family turned into.

RE: Good TV
@surreality Honestly, if they have problems with Motherland but not The Handmaid's Tale, I suspect they're not all that well-intentioned or woke.
It's funny though, because during the episode that was particularly dealing with the heavy emphasis on sex and sexual energy, it is explicitly mentioned prior to the ritual itself is that you should look to whoever you desire, regardless of who it might be and during the ritual people were partnering with others of the same gender, the opposite gender, and in multiples as it suited them.
I'm wondering if the baddies actually have a sizeable population of men amongst them, given their particular position in witch society being significantly less dominant than the roles available for women.

RE: Kushiel Game
A modern take, or something along the lines of a 19th century take, might be really cool. My first thought re: modern was something along the line of a tv show called "Kings" that came out some years ago.
