    • Help With Played Bys

Do you need help picking a played-by?

I love helping with finding played-bys. I think in my former life I was a casting director.

What I need from you is:

      1. Gender (or indicate androgynous/suggested gender/attach applicable label or lack thereof)
      2. Age range
      3. Skin tone
      4. Build type
      5. Hair & eye color.

Optional: Setting type. I tend to look at period sources for L&L games, go a bit more wild with Changeling types, etc. You can also provide some indication of what the character does if that helps: "she's a ballerina" "he's a biker", etc.

Feel free to mention facial hair, but keep in mind that very specific scarring or tattoos are almost impossible unless you already have a specific PB in mind anyway. That kind of thing is Photoshop territory.

Has anybody watched The OA on Netflix?

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

I saw it on Thursday night, walked out emotionally compromised, and waffle between wanting to see it again and not being sure I can emotionally handle it.

Honestly? I haven't been this wrecked since Wash took it in the chest. Ironic, considering.

That's pretty much the gist. Cassius 1.0 mouthed off to Lana W. in a pretty trans/homophobic kind of way and got his ass fired. Jamie Clayton only alluded to the specifics on her twitter but everyone in production is pretty happy with Cassius 2.0, so I'm prepared to give him a chance.

I binged the new season The Man in the High Castle this weekend. It was as incredible as you'd expect it to be, but the last few minutes of the finale didn't pack as quite of a punch for me as last season's did. Overall though, amazing.

Also of note, and also on Amazon Prime, is Good Girls Revolt, which was surprisingly good. Think Mad Men, from a feminist angle (strange, rigtht?) But it's a fictionalized account of a 1970 lawsuit against Newsweek when it refused to allow the women on its staff to be writers, only researchers who did all of the fact-checking and wrote most of the copy, only to be put under the bylines of the male writers. Really strong characters, amazing costumes (late 60's, early 70's) clever writing, and a really good look at feminism growing in that era.

We are getting more Zach McGowan, therefore I do not fucking care if all the cast does is take turns reading the phone book after the world goes nuclear, and I am The 100% serious on this point.

Zach McGowan is important. I know they made him a regular, but I'm definitely wondering how he's going to fit into all of it.

      O's going hardcore, yo.

It kind of hit me that I'm really, really oblivious to New 52. So whoever I'm inclined to look at, I need to make sure I'm acquainted with that version.

And alas, I was late to the party and missed out on the main types I was hoping to be able to consider. I'll have to think about who to app and hope by the time I decide, they're not taken too.

I've seen Rogue One. I'm emotionally compromised.

That's all I can say right now when we're all still spoiler sensitive.

    • RE: MU Things I Love

So I'm really, really happy, because my character has a crush on someone, and he rejected her. Gently but firmly, and they're still friends, and we roleplay, and everything's cool. The reason I am happy about this is kind of hard to explain, but I'm going to try.

So having a character in love is great, but if you're someone who has a lot of romantic failure in rl, it's hard not to become extremely dismayed when the romantic life of your characters doesn't go well or doesn't work out the way you want it to. It can lead to Bad Behavior <tm> and general "that bitch is such a moper/has a bad attitude" airs that no one wants to put out there but can't help doing. That used to me. To some extent, that still is me, but when it used to be 11, now it's down to maybe a 3.

If you look under the definition of 'Unrequited' in the dictionary, one of the options is "Cupcake's entire love life". So when art imitated life, compounded with mental health that was also in an unknowing bad state, well...

Speed up to today. Not only was I okay with it, I was marveling at the fact that I was okay with it. And maybe I won't always be okay with it all the time, but I looked at this as a banner moment and evidence that I'm getting past things that have really ground me down in the past in my roleplay and the mush community. So, go me!

    • RE: Places to RP

@thebird I'd suggest starting with Baker Street. It's an RP Meme community and a good way to get started. There are story based communities as well. Be advised a lot of the memes on Baker Street have a sexual or romantic element to them, but plenty of them don't. Also, Dreamwidth RP tends to focus on "feature characters" from media and pop culture, rather than original creations, though those are out there too. Good luck!

@thebird: Have you tried the RP communities on Dreamwidth? There's a lot of play-by-post forum based rp there. I can provide some links if you want.

@Vorpal: I'd be so down with that, except I love the notion of Starfire as a teen, herself. Maybe Black Canary as headmistress instead, a la Young Justice.
