Was Victus banned? I thought he was just leaving? The only person I know of who was banned recently was Julea, for something seeming to be unrelated?

I'll say it again, it's being staffed by people that staffed on Firan. Why anyone expected anything different to the mentality that prevailed there, I have no idea.
Having suffered at the hands of those loons before, I do not see the same mentality from Firan in Arx.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
On the topic of clue bloat and newbies being able to catch up as the game progresses. Since the game is broken up into chapters, it might help that at the end of a chapter or season, Staff curates a list of clues that all characters (new and current) will be given access to, especially if the events of the chapter are well known and the conclusion of the chapter disseminates a lot of information through the world. Some of the clues will likely be incomplete, but might point towards players who do know more which could then generate RP but not a type of RP where someone goes "Have you been under a rock for the past year!?"

That Lexicon is cool! Need to add "Hoods" for members of the Inquisition.

@Misadventure I'm not sure yet how it will integrate with the current game world, because it's largely player driven, and we'll have to see how PCs go about overcoming the current barriers to open, practiceable magic. the current plan is, when magic becomes a THING again, that will unlock a separate, time-gated xp flow, so you won't have anyone who saved up xp suddenly a level 6 bloodmage after two days of study. But, all PCs in Arx will have the innate ability to learn some sort of magic, be it traditional or inwardly-focused enhancements (think combat arts/styles). The PCs are /all/ part of the special few, if they choose to be. So we will definitely have criminals and there ARE certain magical styles and disciplines focused on people being Sol Badguy, for sure.
Dominion isn't something I have an exhaustive grasp on. To be honest, it's not my field of interest. But it will essentially be the way the leaders of Houses and Orgs (with holdings) manage those holdings. Taxes, production, espionage, trade, war, etc. There are skills that will be purchaseable for Dominion, specifically. Apos is probably way better for elaborating on that. There are some systems I feel strongly about! Dominion isn't one of them.
Hold up! Hold up! We're all special!? BUT THEN NO ONE IS SPECIAL!
kidding
I think this view is a really good direction. That was one of the biggest problems with Firan. No one wants to be a god damn cobbler, yet half the roster was cobblers. In Arx its very clear that a lot (every?) character has their niche and their in.

I find it frustrating to have it be implied that to be successful, you have to be online a lot, not have a life, etc. I am not successful because I have a time advantage (being on and being engaged are very different).
I delegate.
In my mind my character has been incredibly successful (not in an IC power sense) and I honestly do not spend that much time. I work 55-60 hours a week. But I still get enough on Arx to feel I fit in. Sometimes the information flow is overwhelming and I feel I am lagging behind... but that is more my fault (trying to spread out) and less the game's.

looks back over the last two dozen posts
Is this really a fight over ANSI?
You all need a hobby.

I dont think it hurts to give a hint or two. The nature of a roster system means that youll never know everything about a character at a glance, and sexual orientation can be a big deal for some players.

There are definitely a few bisexual men on the grid.
Yea I watched as two made out in the Murder of Crows... that was an amusing scene. Though they probably weren't bisexual and just did it to impress an elf.
Lol I can tell you definitively that both of those characters are bisexual, although one more comfortable with it than the other.

I've been playing for about two months or so. Picked a character randomly that I liked the general premise of and the name. Once I got in took a peek at their secrets and it was pretty cool. Nothing like "YOU ARE ACTUALLY A BASTARD NOBLE OR SON OF A GOD." But certainly a lot there.
I knew I would love it here when in my first GM scene that I just walked into, without any prompting from myself, the GM paged me some pretty pertinent information that only my character would know and really shaped the direction of my RP.

RE: Fanbase entitlement
I think in the realm of MUSHing players can be more entitled (deservingly I believe) because of the time and effort spent in the game.
Comparing an entitled player on a MU* to a fan of a TV show is apples and oranges.
There is a much tighter and more intimate social contract involved in playing on a MU then there is sitting on your couch once a week and watching a show, or reading a book. While there are obviously investments involved with the two latter, I dont believe the investment is as intricate or intimate as the former.

RE: Space Lords and Ladies
Make there be a patronage system. There can be individual captains (and make it so a single PC can fully captain a ship. They don't need a PC engineer and a PC navigator, but if they want one, sure, otherwise NPCs fill the roles) but a Captain can only do so much, they need to be sponsored by a noble and nobles wheel and deal to form their own personal fleets ala some kind of Roman Legion system where the loyalty is not necessary to the state.

Come to think of FMA would be fun, especially when you think that Risa Hawkeye isn't actually an Alchemist (Is she. I don't remember. though her Brotherhood story is DARK.
She wasn't. There was a lot of non-alchemist characters that kicked ass and added to the story. Hell I would love an FMA anime, and theres enough to the setting to allow for it as they established there are more then a few empires/civilizations.

RE: Mush Campaigns
Big surprise im gonna mention Firan. (mostly because since quitting its the only game Ive played for any decent amount of time) The liberation of Ellish was a massive scale campaign (easily 75-100 players) that had a solid opening middle and close. Many died. Many succeeded. Lots of unique mechanics and such in play. It was really the only time the Firans won against the Shamis from what I heard. It was good tho, not perfect in any way, but good. All down hill from there.

RE: Fading Suns
I just watched Kingdom of Heaven Roadshow Director's cut. It was awesome and gave me an urge for some Fading Suns.
But all I see is animu.
How about this thread gets back to Fading Suns? Any games still alive?
