@FiranSurvivor That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, why would I want to spend the time and waste my hours coding something that SEGMENTED the games players from each others further by allowing coded runs that they could go on BY THEMSELVES?! Why would I want to turn it into a MUD that is all about coded combats and encounters when I am using MUX code and the idea is to tell a story not provide people ways to wack their e-pud to how bad ass they can design a character into doing EVERYTHING they need to do to replace a whole team and EVERYONE ON THE WHOLE GAME?! That is the stupidest idea I have ever heard of! Clearly my MUSH is going to FAIL because I'm not turning a MUX into a MUD. OHMERGERD! Grow the Eff Up.

Get real, The only butthurt I am seeing wasn't from me. I was basically just saying No. Nobody likes it, but it doesn't mean it's hostility.

I don't think you know what the word hostility means.

I will have to check it out. I only ask about possible bad blood because when I hear "spinoff" from other MU* that's what I think of. Cyberpunk is my first love of this hobby. Nothing has ever come close to it, I don't know why. Its the only setting that feels perfect for the medium.

      Hey,

It is my understanding the CS is still alive. It is a cyberpunk MUSH/MOO? which is where Sindome spun off from. I was in contact with Rain 2 months ago and he seemed to be trying to loop in old players to return and new players to try out the game.

Gotcha. I think they might see a resurgence in CyberPunk what with CDProject's new CyberPunk game coming after their massive success with the Witcher. They should see about making cyberpshere more accessible to newbies.

Also whats Sindome? Never heard of it before. Is it active? And does it have some kind of bad history with CS?

      What is CyperSphere?

Cyberpunk game. So Shadowrun without magic or funky races. Gibson and Ghost in the Shell. Heavily player vs player focused. While RP does happen its a little fast paced so big poses don't happen to often. Really fun though.

Why not just use the old CP2020 system? Wasteland did fine with it.

Also there is numerous references to Cyberpunk in Fallout. A few of the games mention dermal armor and wired reflexes, and you have Androids and other robotic based characters. Hell one of the guns in Fallout 2 is the exact gun from Blade Runner.

I'm gonna pull a bit from my tangent in the SR thread, and what was one of the first mini-threads within this thread. Don't be afraid of code and automation. If you're smart in how you use it, and how it works into the framework of your game, it can be a great boon.

I'm mostly surprised at the hostility to coded tools and automation. At the end of the day they are tools and are there to help people. It seems a lot of MUSHes these days put way to much stock in the idea that "Oh the players will do it themselves." I think human nature itself and the plethora of failed games that have relied on that maxim have shown that is faulty thinking when it comes to this hobby. Sometimes the players need a push. Sometimes it comes from Wall-E and not Bob the Builder Wizard. The two games I had the most fun on, RP wise, had coded tools that generated content and conflict for the player base and kept staff involvement to a minimum.

Heres a shout in the dark. I'm to lazy to log on and try to make a new account (worst part about CS is the fucking hoops you have to jump through for an account - fuck I remember when they encouraged using an ISP provided email address.) Is Cybersphere active at all? I can't find a daily connection count online anywhere. I see a few posts on the forums but not much.

Was just an idea man to make the game seem alive without constant babysitting from staff 24/7. That's what I noticed in a lot of games these days. (Not just Shadowrun but EVERY game) Games can seem completely dead if staff aren't doing stuff. A semi-automated system can relieve some pressure from staff and make a staff run plot/run seem that much better when it does happen.

On JDCorley's point of generating content. Heres an idea... kind of out there. Would require some dedication to initially code up and write up, but once it is done it could be a good source of RP and a generation of resources (mainly Nuyen) that would require minimum staff involvement.

Essentially everyone would have access to a once a week (to avoid abusing the system) pre-generated Run System. First they would decide how big their team is (up to a max of 5 and even allow for a team of one), the code would then choose a random story that has been pre-generated by staff. It then plays out like a choose your own adventure. You get the set pose, allow everyone to pose then the party leader hits the next button. The next pose comes out. They continue on with the story until they hit either a challenge or a fork, each with an accompanied pre-generated pose. If its a challenge they have to pass a roll or suffer a failure. (could be a simple as someone is injured, they fail part of the mission, or they fail the entire mission) A fork changes the outcome of the run or sends the run into a new tangent. (This could allow for a pregenerated system to have some extra life as not all runs will be the same) At the end of the run, depending on if specific objectives were met, rolls were passed, and what forks were chosen, the team gets a Nuyen award or maybe a favor or item they can use in future runs. Again these pre-generated runs would be limited to probably once a week. Maybe once every two weeks. You don't want everyone to just rely on this system. You still want staff runs and PRP to be an avenue.

This allows for a system that runs without any staff involvement except for its initial placement. It allows for groups to RP action based scenes without the need for an experienced storyteller or active staffer, and even allows for those lone wolf types to earn some money and develop a side story they can tell to their friends.

It allows the game to feel alive. You could code up a secondary system that could tie run results into a News Broadcast Board where some corporate mouth piece comes up with an excuse for a recent run and your players can smirk knowing theyre talking about them.

You can also make it so that your staff initiation for the game is they have to make a pre-gen Run, or allow players to submit pre-gun runs for a lil XP.

Any chance you can point to a book or a link that explains Ireland and the Tir more?

Can I make an Irish IRA Terrorist who wants to take back the homeland from knife eared bastards?

Finished Hong Kong. You could easily set the game in there, the ending even drives the point home that what happened "Is just another Friday." Which was pretty awesome. Amazing game. Really really want a Shadowrun MU. Or really just bring back Cybersphere.... KINGFOX I SUMMON YOU.

      @Admiral

While I played 3-4 years ago I consider "my time" to be around 8ish years ago. I'm not saying cheating was rampant, but it happened.

@Arkandel And cheating on CS was less gaming the system for Exp and more killing people in unfair ways. 😛

It's not filled with cheaters. Or it wasn't when I last played it. There were a small number of people abusing triggers (and a couple people abusing alts) but for the most part that wasn't a big thing.

Sorry I meant in the past. I haven't played on CS for... 3-4 years. During my time there was quite a few cheaters.

CS's BBS system was pretty fantastic. It even had fancy things like disallowing you to read BBS during combat or use the mail system to prevent people mailing their clone details of their death, along with the ability to remove someone's complant entirely to prevent usage of the BBS system.

It even doubled as an IC version of the 'WHO' list.

Yea. I wish CS wasn't filled with cheaters and currently a rotting a corpse. I loved the coded systems it had for... everything. Guns, Cyberware (god was using cyberware so damn fun on that game) The Matrix.

      Too sim.

You'll end up with setups where they record all conversations and have language processors spot the interesting stuff, and players will stop using it. Anything involving constant vigilance, such as guarding things, should be turned into a game system based contest. If you don't trust your players to OOCly be honest, then your listening system would be used fully for lies, and they'd communicate in other ways.

That was probably the biggest problem with CS is that the system did encourage OOC/Out of Game communication to avoid giving advantage to your enemies. Then again that game was super focused on PVP and less on RP. You do bring up a good point.

      So more Shadowrun talk...

One thing I think is necessary is to have a well functioning BB system. And I don't mean one that necessarily works, but one that fits in the universe. I don't know if there is any Cybersphere MOO veterans on here, but I loved the way that game handled the IC and OOC communication for the Shadowlands esque BB.

The system to handle non in-person communications also needs to be pretty decent. Cell phones and all that jazz, or some kind of Ghost in the Shell esque internal communication? All of those add a lot of flavor to the world. I think it should be easy for Deckers to listen in on calls if they have the right gear and the caller has non-secured tech.

Shadowrun needs to be a thing again. There should be a place where I want to simply just do casual Bar RP.

Except in any other game casual Bar RP is a bunch of fucks ordering fried zucchini and nursing burbon.

In Shadowrun, Bar RP is the precursor to fucking a global megacorp out of a few million nuyen or biker gangs rallying for a battle with the Triads while a ripperdoc sits in the corner and counts future profits.
