But FS3 is not designed for PvP games or for magical games, so I agree it's not a good fit for FF.

To clarify my position, FS3 would be great for FF XV's setting in which magic is relegated to near non-existence. I've thought long and hard about this.

      I'll shut up now, mistress.

I want to say HM but maybe it was TR, there was a time when people thought it was unfair/close to cheating if you took a failure without failing the dice.

People also thought the planet was flat once.

      @lithium

While what you say is true, Cure and Life are the most important spells in your Final Fantasy arsenal. I don't think they are compatible, as they are presented in the games, with FS3.

FF XV is the best for FS3 because magic is heavily-minimalized. You have Fire, Ice, and Lightning attacks and spells, but that's about it. Curing is done via potions, for the most part. From what I've seen on BSG:U and Fifth Kingdom, I don't think FS3 allows you to heal people. So, there's that limitation.

This is a really good game with a rich history, and I enjoyed my time there as Ashley. Sometimes, I think about coming back. But Arx hits all the right notes for me, for whatever reason, and I've only the time to devote to one PC.

I've talked at length about not liking private scenes or asynchronous scenes. When I left, this seemed to be the norm, and while I've no problem with that, I'd rather play on a game with more public or synchronous scenes.

Yeah, I'd dare anyone to find a single post on MSB favoring consent-based games that wasn't immediately met with snark, disdain, cries of "wrongfun" and/or insults about "wusses who just can't stand to lose".

      Sure. Here's a good thread: http://musoapbox.net/topic/1713/naruto-mush-legacy/20

In addition, there's even a post in there about how the proposed system isn't really consent-based, and that it really should be.

But, that's just one thread. Everything else you said is mostly true.

      (I just wanted to look.)

I do think those issues become even more problematic if a core feature of your game is non-consent permanent death. They're definitely not good mojo in either scenario, though.

I don't think the issues are problematic if you have good staff. In fact, none of these scenarios of doom-and-gloom arise if the staff can be trusted with the power they have.

As an administrator, if you don't trust your staff, why are they staff?

I understand the concern, but I, like many ex-staff, despise setting policies based on the lowest-common denominator's behavior.

"But Fara, we have to consider superpower stuff for a Magicians game." Sure, but the existing WoD mage system doesn't fit and FS3 has no magic system, so either way you're going to end up cooking up something custom. Just cook up something simple and it shouldn't matter which system you use.

@Auspice, re-working the Changeling: the Dreaming Arts and Realms could do the trick.

I'd help you, but I'm cobbling together an entirely new blood magic system for Vampire 2E.

To me the problem is not if I trust staff or not, the problem is if the players trust staff.

As you've pointed out, Groth, staff will always have superior power over players. You can't change this, even if you hobble their PCs. If staff want to screw you, they will, no matter what policies are put into place. In my experience, every policy calculated to check staff power or interests can be overridden or ignored, and is ultimately useless. Worse, they are often twisted to justify otherwise immoral acts.

You cannot reasonably compare the situation to judges and their family members. Judges can be impeached and censured in a variety of meaningful ways. Staff cannot, other than removing them.

Character is what is most important. And vigilance by administrators..

Note how even though Judges can be impeached and censured, they are still expected to recuse themselves from cases where there might exist appearances of impropriety.

That's not what I was getting at. I understand this. Judges should do this voluntarily, but do so in obvious cases because their ethical code can be enforced against them. On a MU*, if staff don't follow or enforce their policies, the policy is pointless.

I've been around the block for a long time, and I don't believe any code or set of policies will make me trust staff more or less than the reputations they have.

Eldritch is no longer up. I think Dragon Age MUSH is not up either. VASpider is dominating Fate's Harvest.

If those policies hadn't been written down I think it would have been harder for her to build that trust and harder to ensure that the members of staff she brought in would stay true to her vision.

Even if those policies had been written down, I would not have continued to play on the game if the rules were not consistently enforced. Even in the absence of those policies, I would have continued to play on the game because of my opinion of stiffly conduct. My coming to the game had nothing to do with the staff policies at all.

I suppose, after our discussion, that if I had a point, it is that the conduct and character of your staff will speak louder than what policies are publicly listed.
