      Players want agency, and to give them that you must give them opportunities to do stuff.

      What if some players' active hours differ from the core group?

      What if some players are less comfortable with the kind of RP that the core group want to do?

      There's a lot here. It's nice to say GIVE THEM AGENCY without answering the tougher questions about how to do it with a given player base. Because every player base is different.

      As an alternative: You can hire a firm to send a demand letter. That tends to be both kind of scary and relatively cheap.

      You might even be able to get the firm to do it for free if you elect to give them 50% of whatever money you may be able to squeeze to settle the claim.

      As a good general, this is my suggestion:

      • Secure new place of employment;
      • Have firm send letter;
      • Give appropriate notice of departure; and
      • Make sure your co-workers know who you hired to smack your soon-to-be-ex-employer.

      Because nothing says shitballs than a mountain of lawsuits from the same firm for the same situation.

      Paying $60/year to rent game books that ideally I would be referencing for decades? Not at all appealing.

      Even less appealing when you know where to get your own copy fo' free.

      The way the real estate crisis is hitting different households is astounding.

      wait there's more

      From the supply side, builders are being hit by "the Amazon effect." Amazon is apparently buying every single building material you can think of for the purpose of constructing distribution centers world-wide. In North America, where building materials must meet relatively-strict requirements, Amazon is buying the shit out of materials. This is causing materials prices to spike, in the words of a local developer, around 180%.

      Whereas during the pandemic there were rising costs due to lack of labor, there is now rising costs due to shortage of materials. Add them together and new home prices are rising meteorically.

      @derp said in Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever:

      Whatever it takes to get out from under the weight of that scrutiny and get people to start accepting you. We don't get to fetishize some idealized critical path it has to take. You just have to get there. Somehow.

      This is my take too.

      I think commodifying homosexuality or diversity is a hollow and horrid when the aim is solely to cash in on it, but I think it has to be balanced with how important normalizing it is. We can wax philosophically about ethics, but I think the reality is that normalization leads to acceptance, if not tolerance, and this will probably save lives. I will gladly have more Shang-Chi, even if it means seeing Chinese people again fetishized as martial artists, if it means that more Chinese stars will get Hollywood roles and we normalize the idea of Chinese stars being action heroes and romantic leads.

      Netflix and DreamWorks clearly cashed-in on the gay-ness of the new She-Ra series but no one can deny the impact it had, and will have, on the way alternative identities will be treated in the media, not as disabilities or flaws, but instead as strengths.

      @devrex said in The Desired Experience:

      What is your desired experience when you get onto a MU*? What do you do this for? What kind of book or movie are you trying to step into there?

      Objection as to form, but I shall answer your "question."

      I hope to entertain: These games aren't fun if people aren't having fun and I'm just one player of many. If I get on and do something that people enjoyed watching or participating in, I win. This is why I am having fun with my vampire on Liberation; he's goofy; he's sweet; but he's also funny because chainsaws hurt, yo.

      I hope to think: These games are interactive improv at heart. They get really boring when you're doing the same things all the time, whatever they are. So if I get into a situation where I have to think about what's happening and react to it within character then I'm probably having a great time.

      I hope to learn something: In order to do either of the above, I need to get into my characters. I have learned so much from playing Piccola that it takes a lot of effort to get into her because writing for and being her takes a lot of mind-power. She somehow became part-samurai, part-assassin, and part-Machiavellian power-broker along the way that I think I need a break.
