RE: The Work Thread
I'm tired.
I'm fucking tired.
I swear, it's like no one in the goddamn city can handle their own shit today and when I do it for them it's suddenly fucking unfair that I charge them for my time.
Like, wizzleshit, if you could've done it on your own, you would, but you fucking can't, so shut the fuck up about fairness.
Client: This isn't fair.
Me: What isn't fair?
Client: This bill. You told me it would cost less.
Me: That was before the defendants lawyered up.
Client: Well, I don't think I should be held responsible for that.
Me: You aren't, but I still have to deal with them.
Client: But why do I have to pay for it?
Me: Because the defendants made it your problem, and because you hired me to fix it.
Client: But it's their fault.
Me: I know.
Client: Why should I have to pay to fix a problem they caused?
Me: Because if you don't then the problem will never get fixed.
Client: This isn't fair.Thank the fucking Lord that I have a fucking game plan in place and soon I won't have to deal with this bugger shit but fuck everyone they are the reason why I go fucking nuts about work all the goddamned time.

In theory. If it contains all private messages, maybe... not.
I was expecting a dick joke and I was disappointed.

RE: Forum wonk
Still looking at and weighing options.
But I like the idea of the DB going to a member.
But there's a lot of data.

RE: General MSB announcements
Line good.
It helps me to see which posts I'm highlighting for moving or deletion.
That said, NO I HAVE NOT BEEN DELETING ANY POSTS.
That's one of the problems we're having which we need to find a fix for.
Please see other thread for Forum Wonk.

RE: Paying for a MU*?
I charge $350 an hour and still get treated like shit sometimes.
That’s why I charge $350 per hour; I can cut these assholes lose.

I know nothing about the technical side of things - but if the board did go to a new place would we still be safe from some of the most egregious people who have been banned here?
No, we would still probably have to keep an eye out for those assholes.

You better be real good at TS if I'm paying for it.

RE: Forum wonk
So, to re-cap.
We have a few options here. We could upgrade the RAM available for Redis, which needs a lot of it. That would cost less than a full data 'port.
But we could also just make a new place, shut this place off for posting, and hold it up for a year before letting it fade into the sunset.
I concur with Sunny: this community is its members, not the location. But I also promised Arkandel that I would safeguard this place, the keys for which he was handed by someone else, all the way back to Emmahsue.
But I do like the idea, honestly, of just starting a new place.
Regardless, Arkandel has served his time. Mietze and I need someone on the tech side to assist. Your role would simply be to keep up with the needs on the server side. Cost isn't an issue at this point, but it is a concern. I will continue to moderate if anyone wants me to, but I am tempted to step into the role of 'dis ho that funds this shit' and stepping out of 'dictator because someone has to be'.
I'm not sure, but I have this weird idea that someone who pays for the place ought not have that kind of control.
So, let's be honest with ourselves. Does anyone care if we start up again on something more modern? I don't because I believe as Sunny does, but I am all for options and stuff. If we start a new place, what base should be use? Who should host? And should we come up with a new name altogether?

Yeah, I agree. We've been saddled with it though unless MSB is willing to start over.
This is one of the issues too.
If it makes sense to abandon this place and move to another, then we can open up a new place and close this place to posting, keep it up for a year, and then let it die.
I'm looking for options. And pricing. I don't mind this being a public debate either.

Might not be that big of a deal for here, but it's a huge pain in the ass when you're trying to track down something on a technical oriented forum that uses Discourse.
I concur.
I don't really consider us a technical-oriented forum.
Unless it comes to cat GIFs and food.

RE: Forum wonk
When I last discussed things with Arkandel, that was the impression I got. Regardless, we know how good I am with the code for this forum. I may be a decent moderator, but I am the worst when it comes to its tech issues.
Of course, like, if you want to help us maintain the DB from the back-end, like, this is totally the time when I would encourage you (because I know you are better at tech-stuff) to DM me so I can beg and plead for your assistance.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Getting a lawyer raises your chances of success, but will not speed the process up. If your friend is a veteran, they can seek assistance from their local veterans service commission.

I know that you have all begun to notice some weirdness with this forum. Posts have gone missing. Adjusted without notice. On our end, we don’t know precisely what is happening.
What we do know is that nodeBB is old and not getting updated. We have talked about switching to another code base, but that runs the risk of losing what data we have already. But it may be necessary.
So, I am open to suggestions. If anyone has experience with a different, modern, updated system to use, I’m all eyes.
