    • RE: Nightlife RPG vs CoD

@ZombieGenesis IMO WoD/CofD have endured in the MU population simply because there are coded systems that are reusable. It is/was easy to reuse/rebuild/repeat dozens of times over. It might actually be worthwhile to the playebase to introduce some new blood in terms of gaming systems.

Having said that, also keep in mind the amount of people who don't want dice resolutions and are mostly going to utilize the space for "relationship roleplay", so it might not be worth the time and effort to encode an entirely new system.

      @ZombieGenesis All good points.

Now I knooooooow I'm a fucking broken record about the whole "it can be a MU or a TTRPG but cant be both"...but I think you're like me, ZG, in the sense that you're primarily a TTRPG player that leans more towards playing the MUs like a bunch of people playing the system/setting from the TTRPG. I like game systems. I like the classic feel of dice and I like resolutions being decided by dice rather than freeform/argument.

If you can code it? Go for it...but have you also considered maybe running games through https://startplaying.games/ ?

You could charge for VTT session games and run a roleplay server on discord, so you'd get the best of both worlds.

@chet I ran Blob against them. I had a lot of fun when they'd punch him and get their fists stuck in rolls of sweaty blubber. I played that up, seriously, because that's what Blob is great for.

Actually, no. They closed The 100 for the very reasons that were listed.

Also, your hatred-boner for them has crossed the line from slightly amusing (albeit off the freaking mark so much) and into the realm of obnoxious conspiracy theorists.

Please shut the hell up already.

Hah. Nice try to wax my point as a hatredboner to play some kind of forum defense. Old trick.

I dislike they way they abuse their players by putting themselves first, and this thread has more than anything shown I'm not the only one who feels this way. Try to write it off as some personal hatredbonerlulz all that you want. This hobby won't survive if the people who run games keep putting themselves first and keep fucking players over. I'm sure I don't need to tell your buddies this, they'll see you threw forum defense option #43 in their defense. Good for you.

I won't be missing out on any game time in this miraculously fast turnaround on 5w's return. I wont be there. Was just passing along to the players of 100 that 100's owners started up a new game within 20 days or so.

P.S. I like your new forum handle. Who were you before? Care to share? Forum trick #2, eh?

Off-topic, but you should know this sentence set off a 2-megaton nuclear creativity-splosion in my head. In my head, AL Swearingen just yelled at little Laura Ingalls to get the fuck out of his saloon, and creepy-as-ever Brad Dourif as Doc is getting creepy at Michael Landon.

But excellent points dear to my heart. Everyone had to be telling the same thematic stories in the same genre/theme/setting or else it's a mess.

@Misadventure Each of the 8 classes have their own core story. There will be missions all players do, but sub-missions that focus on the story of each of the 8 classes with their own NPCs, distinct endings, etc. In that, SWTOR has a really great replay value because creating a brand new "Jedi Consular" after finishing "Jedi Knight" has story value.

This is if I'm reading you right and you're not familiar with it. Apologies if you are and I just splained.

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

@faraday I'm not going to wrongfun people for doing it. It's just my personal preference that people make a life of their own rather than borrow that of a PB. My main reason for this is because, over a period of time, the characters blend into immemorable efforts because they were all one shape or another of the same mannerisms and appearance to me.

To each their own, but I've hung out with Chris Pratt and Amy Adams a lot.

As to my decline comment, we didn't use to lean so heavily on PBs and pictures to do what we seek to do through words. I think we got a lot more creativity out of things back then, as well as more variety of concept.

I do believe that some of the negative byproduct of wikis, such as wikistalking and metagaming thru posted logs (the latter being a necessary hazard) have led to a great deal of negativity and hyperbole. Things like the infamous Fallcoast BANG LIST where a guy stalked wikis and make his own wiki pages of female PBs his character planned to sleep with.

@tek I think that inviting other players to unwittingly play support cast to your personal PC-driven adventure is abusive to the players, yes.

As someone who was beaten, molested and medicated for illnesses I didn't have as punishment from the ages of six to eighteen, you're full of hyperbolic shit.

I did, and I'm done backpedalling around your shock and awe angle.

No one was talking about molestation, domestic abuse, or you. No one asked for you to take the usage of the word abuse personally, and as adults and per context of the conversation it was apparent that I wasn't applying your definition of abuse when I meant the other. We weren't even talking about you...but now we are.

Knock it the fuck off and seriously, fuck you for taking it there.

    • RE: Street Fighter The RPG

@ZombieGenesis I'm jealous as hell. We played the AAAAAAAASSSSS off of SFRPG back in the day. I'll be doubly jealous if you're using the card system to do the combats because that made it so much better.

For those not in the know, you could print out these little move cards like "light punch, medium punch, heavy punch" and on the cards would be the modifiers (+2 speed, +2 damage) etc.

Well, when you were "fighting" someone else you'd pick your move on a card and play it face down, then do initiative.

The way it worked was simple.

BLOCK had a speed of like +6 so you'd almost always be able to block FASTER than someone could do a Dragon Uppercut. So "mr badass" would think they're about to clean your clock so they'd play their "dragon uppercut" card face down, but if you ANTICIPATED that they were going to do this...you might put your "jump back" card face down. Voila. You jumped out of the way.

It kind of recreated the concept of 2 players going PVP trying to anticipate the other player's next move. Fun stuff. BUT OH GOD DON'T EXPECT TO FIGHT CHUN LI WITH A STARTER CHARACTER. She's got like 40,000 dots on that WoD-style character sheet.
