Now that I think about it, I really hope Drakkonis Nagash ends up like this:

My teacher asked for me to give a presentation on modern day effects of historic events
...so I filmed burning her classroom down with everyone inside and told her I'd give it to her tomorrow after the evening news.

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

What's interesting to me is that this board doesn't abide by the same rules regarding civility, harassment, and abuse attached to the very games this board is designed to promote/discuss.

Waxing philosophical here, but how can we expect people to treat each other with respect and civility on these games if the general standard for many is to take the OOC drama from these games to a demilitarized zone where they can behave aggressively and abusively without it affecting their actual roleplay time? It in no way keeps the drama away from the games, it just takes the fight to a place where they're less likely to be banned from the game for it, because it's not happening on the server itself.

A constructive zone on this forum should be kept just that, constructive. People should be able to post and communicate with each other without the fear of aggressive behavior from people who come to troll, abuse, and assassinate the reputations of others.

In the end, this protects you as much as it permits you from this behavior.

My suggestion: Hold the "Constructive" zones of the board to the same standards requested on games. At some point it has to be asked "Is this acceptable behavior, or is it being used as a sandbox for allowing behavior that isn't allowed on the games?"

Ok so...first impressions? I'm about 8 hours in and there's a shitload of stuff to do. Game is gorgeous and very low stress. Absolutely encapsulates the feeling of being a student at Hogwarts. It'll be hard not to see this game as a competitor for GotY.

@tek bear in mind that imposing your aggression on others and forcing them to use words and definitions of your choosing, lest they be presented with ugly mental imagery and wrath of your choosing until they comply...falls under the definition of abusive behavior. Using power to force and control the way people speak is very aggressive and dominating.

The reason doesn't matter. It's bullying-type behavior and is a set of bared teeth to anyone who might dare challenge you or suffer a fight.

      Use these words...or else.

      You hypocritical twat.

@Paris Good advice. We had to cut them off during a period of severe high functioning autism issues with our kid and this guy and his friends were like: OMG UR shutting us out because you wont listen to us talk about systemic racism and how to take the Universal Unitarian approach on love, WTF!

No. We had to shut you out because you were repeatedly engaging an autistic 8 year old on an authoritarian level despite us asking you to stop.

Yeah, I'm gonna unfriend. If after 14 years all he's got is your ego is keeping you from joining my church atmosphere, then he is no longer a friend.

@Ghost said in What Would it Take to Repair the Community?:

So I ask: Really, what would it fucking take to clear the air and make the environment more 'repaired'?

If you're referring to the community that once inhabited here and its predecessors, then I would only say "time."

I'm not sure what air needs to be cleared, to be honest. Positions and opinions have been stated and re-stated. I presume that posters, past and present, can make their own decisions. So I presume as well that what can be repaired promptly has been repaired.

These presumptions may not be correct, but I've always believed you cannot force two people who dislike or distrust one another for reasons great or small to decide to mend and move forward, unless they want to.

      I'm referring to...well...all of it.

      • The page-whispering gossip and badmouthing other players
      • Grudges that have existed for years
      • Boards of people making fun of other players
      • Unfair staffing issues
      • Bullying/elitist behavior
      • Paranoia of who is who, who they've played, stranger danger

I honestly don't know what the answer is, either. A while back I asked myself if the hobby was making me happy, and obviously the answer was "No". The question in my head though is "What can be done to move the needle in the other direction?" and it just seems to me that in classic risk modeling you either ACCEPT the risk or try to MITIGATE the risk. Shit or get off the pot, right?

Having said that, I think one of the concepts in "World War Z" (The Redeker Plan) kind of applies. You're not going to be able to create a solution to save everyone. IF there's a solution, I feel it may require accepting that certain people aren't interested in a positive environment and it may require to put them at risk of being excluded to either make them go away, create their own games, or guide their behavior to adjust.

@saosmash You're one of the ones I would wholly trust to approach that point of view exactly as you say you do. You make yourself very clear on a case by case basis. As well I know XD

This wasn't dirrcted at you. I think your voice can be appreciated to not address an issue like this without petty poo flinging.

Hold up. Let me say something here very clearly, because I have put forth firmly worded negative opinions. You are not a bad staffer. You are an incredible storyteller, you have good intentions, you treat people with respect, and you're reasonable. I could probably think of a dozen other things that you excel at, where staffing is concerned.

      I'd agree with that.

It'd be a shame if @GirlCalledBlu stopped making games. Because, unlike what @ghost seems believe, people not making games is way worse than a game not being up to everybody's standards of perfection.

The idea that everybody'd been better off without @GirlCalledBlu and @Seraphim73 making the 100 is patently false. Because people had fun. Because whatever disappointments were had, including that it shut down, is vastly outweighed by all the tons of fun people had on the game.

Things could've been done better. But lets keep that in perspective.

Oh that's what I seems believe, eh?

I'm being polite and reading and not typing. Don't poke the badger. I was under the assumption something constructive was happening in the last 20 or so posts on this thread. I've been politely bowed back.

And no, I don't have super high standards and think that there should be no games unless they meet my exorbitant standards. I'll not insult you and assume you're truly aware that I was never suggesting that, and that it sounded cute when you typed it.

I can very clearly see why you'd think that, when this schism was largely along the lines of whether you were suitable to hold power.

Now you do so nearly unilaterally, with two admins racing one another to upvote your every take.

Best possible outcome for you. Thus, healthy.

This has nothing to do with the topic.

Now, you can believe that or not. We're going to do our best to make sure that's the case. If you don't believe that, I'm not going to argue. Don't come play. Please, don't come play. But don't call us liars either. Go make a thread in the Hog Pit to do that but at least wait till you have evidence. Don't be Trump.

Don't be Trump. LOL. Chill. I was just explaining (with a few rhetorical questions) why --outside of Super Hero games where playing FCs is the focus of the game-- FCs are historically a sign of a bad game and disliked by the 80% of the gaming populace who have had negative staff-ethical experience involving them. There's a certain amount of pre-determined responsibility, baggage, and fame that comes along with those FCs in terms of leadership to the Rebellion.

I'm not going to be playing, but that's not because of FCs or staff or any of the typical MU drama. I'm not playing anywhere. I just saw a place to insert a point about why FCs are a problem, and why people do not like them. If this game becomes the exception to the rule? More power to Star Wars: Insurgency.

Just be advised that this will be Star Wars Game #72 with FCs that is claiming that they won't be favoring FCs, and if this game makes good on their promise, they will be approximately 1 for 72.

QUASI POLITICAL (NOT intended to start a political discussion)

The look on your face when fans shit on something good.

The football club I back (Phoenix Rising FC, USL, my user pic) has 2 major backer groups: La Furia Roja 1881 and Los Bandidos.

The Furia Roja 1881 are a bunch of good folks with kids, friends, get togethers, etc. The Bandidos are best described as a militant ANTIFA group who have adopted Rising FC as their FC of choice.

At Saturday's game (After plenty of political news generated here in Phoenix, Az) the Bandidos came loaded for bear with protest banners, one including crossed out swastikas on a railing within view of the TV cameras and the goal. They were asked (by Rising FC) to remove the sign with the swastikas and the Bandidos cited absolutism, you're with us or against us rhetoric, and in protest of the FC and USL regulations for political/hate related imagery in the stands...they stormed out of the arena.

In short? Way to make it about yourselves and not support of the team, assholes. Claiming support of a sports team does not automatically entitle you to support for every last drip of your political endeavors.
