For me, the last straw with the jerkoff was his posting the meme about autism. I tend to take that kind of shit personally because my oldest son is autistic and I fail to find anything humorous where that goes. Wanted to tell him to go DIAF for that but by the time I posted that he had already been banned.
You got downvoted for this for some reason but I upvoted you because I teach special ed and fuck that dude but a downvote and an upvote equal a zero so you get a comment too so you can -feel- my approval!

RE: Good TV
I just thought it would be important to update everyone. Remember how I said I was excited about Vinyl and going to watch it and then watched the pilot and was like 'hmm, it has potential, I'll keep trying." I lied. I haven't seen any other episodes and forgot why I'd want to.
INSTEAD I spent my valuable TV time binging the entire series of Big Love again, so long as HBO has it sitting there for me. I regret nothing. Big Love forever.

@Gingerlily I hate how On Demand doesn't hold stuff, or misses episodes for no apparent reason at all so I've taken to DVR'ing everything so I don't have to deal with on demand anymore. I can also fast forward past commercials then.
They hate me! How will I ever even know what happens in that middle part of this trial? HOW.
On Demand is super random for anything but premium shows but they also take those away suddenly too, especially just at the time you are trying to catch up on a series before its next season. If you haven't caught up before the season premiere. TOO BAD you didn't prioritize your life properly.
Also speaking of HBO has anyone noticed that every HBO series ever is on On Demand right now? Big Love (loved it, not sorry) Carnivale! (don't expect any of you to have watched it, I think I was one of like four people in America who watched it hence its cruel cancellation) Deadwood! (I know you guys watched that! Some things everyone just loves, even me)

RE: Good TV
I have only watched 4 episodes, episode 5 appeared briefly on On Demand as a choice but I watched the first five minutes and feel asleep and now suddenly it is not a choice, so what gives, cable gods? Where do I watch it NOW do I have to steal it? (I just wait for it to come back on as a choice is the answer)
ALSO in other things I watch that probably nobody else does but -maybe- a few, I love Downton Abbey obsessively, so obsessively that I -acquire- my episodes early so I can watch along with the Brits instead of waiting for it to come here, except for some reason no one wanted to share the Christmas Special on places where such episodes could be acquired in any kind of timely fashion so now I must watch it tonight, with the rest of the US, like a dork.

RE: Good TV
Okay since nobody likes the same shows I do, I'm going to confess that I am obsessed with 'American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson' I can't figure out WHY, obviously I have seen all of this before but the acting is amazing. The guy playing Johnnie Cochran could -be- Johnnie Cochran except he is dead so he can't. Somehow the conversations the lawyers have planning this are super tense even though I already know what they are going to do. I'd tell people to watch but no one will, so I'll just confess to watching so there is more evidence that I like things no one else likes.

RE: Couples who MU together
To give a more thorough response, I feel like it really depends. Clearly some people here have been burned and are responding to that and i get it, but I think any people who pair up whether they are roomates or irl best buddies or just online pals who game together often and like to go into MU*es with paired concepts and then run wild can either be fun or a problem. The issue is often how much OOC info is shared, and how much of the game is 'played' OOC vs IC, and I don't think that has much to do with who is a couple real life or not.
My husband and I play on MU*es together sometime, though he is a far more casual player than I. He and I also both come from a MUD background and he is slower to move on to the MUSH culture of sharing -anything- OOC, even the stuff that everybody shares, so for us it really isn't a problem. He gets PISSED at me when I try to discuss with him even the most benign details of game plots or plans or ideas for doing something cool OOC. I can't even tell him funny stories that have nothing to do with anything if they happened on the game and are "IC Information' as he dubs it. We have in the past played against each other and enjoyed the heck out of it, and also sometimes play on the same 'team' with some kind of connection or other. It really ends up being no big deal, no more influential than playing with a friend who I have never met.
Relationship RP with other people when we play is no big deal either, unless the other party (the text one) gets weird in some fashion, like there was a time some girl his character was in a relationship with yelled at him because he wasn't online when he said he would be to rp relationship fun with her because he'd spontaneously decided to take his in the flesh wife on a date. That kind of fluke aside, it's been pretty easy though.
If people are going to be weird, I think it doesn't matter what their relationship to one another is. They'll be jerks anyhow.

RE: MU* concept oddities
@Coin said:
Not really a MU--more of a game that started on LiveJournal and then moved to a mix of LJ and private MU game when the majority of the players either turned out to be MUers or became such, but there was a game I loved where we all played the reincarnations of dead authors and poets. I met @Gingerlily there, along with many others. It's kind of irreplaceable. I'm pretty sure if I said "oh, I am considering restarting this" I would have a legion of people from the old game yelling "hooray", but I don't have the drive at the moment. Back when it existed, though, I couldn't really RP anywhere else--it was time intensive mostly because it was so submersive for me. Some people found it a lot more intense than others. Like all games, it had its share of crazy shit, but for the most part, even when there were hard OOC feelings involved, people tended to ... I don't know ... for the most part be civil, barring a very few crazy moments. I think it helps a lot that there was a lot of transparency in character action and even intent.
This game was so weird but cool but weird, I didn't even know how to play and half of the time I did I think I was mostly making fun of my own character. I didn't play for very long at all, a few weeks and I got distracted. I don't even know how to describe it except once I was describing how weird it was and a super silly thing I did there on these very boards and @Coin was like "THAT WAS ME" and that's all you even need to know.

RE: Couples who MU together
Oh man, what are you people SAYING? You treat couples as honest open allies in board games? You don't want them playing on opposing factions? There is NOTHING more fun that pwning my hubby in a board game except POSSIBLY a long, well structured campaign which many others are a part of to pwn him on a MU*. Come on guys! Surely some of you are married and know this joy? Speak up!

RE: Good TV
If any of you care, Vinyl was decent. Didn't need a 2 hour pilot, that was too much, but I am optimistic for the regular 1 hour format. Music! Arguments! People playing awkward versions of Robert Plant!

@Gingerlily So.. it sounds more or less like you want a Mob type game toooo.
Well. An advertising/business simulation might be kind of boring. (or AWESOME as a pc non-rpg game, I love simulation games, SimDonDraper plx) but for the 70's rock thing...maybe yes.
Also still want any kind of monster/vampire/who even cares game set in the 90's! Grunge or Goth pick your team.

RE: Do you use spawns and how?
I use CMUD, which I KNOW but it is from when I played on MUDs and it is excellent for setting up spawn windows and if there are any other functions I need from a client I don't know what they are and I don't want to know so don't tell me. I have a nice little set of rectangles on the right of my screen with my pages and my channels and my main screen is all rp. (Or the helper channels and the stuff I am working on if it is my staffbit) and it is visually organized and great.

RE: Kinds of Mu*s Wanted
Something set in the 70's so we can all use PB's and pictures from Vinyl, or from the 70's!
Something set in the 60's so we can all use pictures from Mad Men!
What game, what story, what point? I dunno. I've been watching a lot of tv.

I will say, the reason I enjoyed The Wire as much as I did is because it made me love and invest in its characters more than almost any other series I can name (with the possible exception of Friday Night Lights). Including people who'd be one-off villains in any other series. It's admirable in many other ways, but that's why I love it, and why it never felt like Eating My Vegetables TV. I can understand why it feels like homework to some people, but it never did for me after I got past the first few episodes (I feel like there's a moment in the fourth episode of S1 where you're either hooked or you're not).
It was always pitched to me as not a 'crime drama' (I am not super into those) but a slice of life drama about different aspects of a city. They happened to pick Baltimore which is like just over there. points somewhere nearish so that adds an extra interest factor on top, and everyone I knew who watched it told me I should which usually means I will within 10 years or so.

Carcetti isn't apparently based as much on O'Malley as people think, I have read. Also, Season 2 was the worst.
I am in love with O'Malley no joke, we used to call him McDreamy cause he came to do some perfect-smile photo shoots where I used to teach I wish he could be governor forever. (I know he made some glaring errors, not trying to derail this into politics) the guy who plays him better be handsome or I will turn of The Wire and be done.

Kinda sorta. I don't know, it just hasn't stood out as something I absolutely need to watch. If it comes out and gets great reviews, I might dip my toes into it, though.
70's rock drama, produced by Martin Scorsese and MICK JAGGER. The music! The hair/sunglasses/mustaches! The PANTS! I absolutely need to watch this. I'm shocked I'm alone on this forum. I feel like such a nerd but this is a place FOR nerds am I the wrong kind?

RE: How did you discover text-based gaming?
@Ninjakitten I recall vaguely that without its sleeve the cover was blank and yellowy-tan. It was only 15 years ago so my memory of that should be pre-ty solid, plus I was never wasted during those precious developmental years to confuse one book with another.

RE: BITN - Seeking Staff and Pre-Launch Support
If you want some specific spots like bar/coffee shop on route 1 by the college, the green with Testudo's germy nose to rub for luck, other assorted hangouts (are you doing College Park, Baltimore, Eastern Shore, all of it?) I could create a -few- just for fun. If that is at all helpful
