I had a stupid idea, and have put exactly 0.0136 thoughts into it. But.

      BUT.

      Pokémon BattleTech.

Are they Pokémon mechs? Is it Battlemechs vs giant Pokémon, Pacific Rim Style (but... you know. With proper physics)? Is it something else? I've put no effort tin beyond the initial premise.

If we're going zany with Final Fantasy, bring forth the grid from the Saga Edition SW game, for TACTICS. Also a thing that forces players to choose a powerset. Sure, you can be a dinosaur that has ALL the jobs. But you can't use all your SWAG simultaneously.

@Ganymede - whines I don't have time to run a game! Stop making me want to create an HZD game! I swore an oath to myself I would never headwiz again, and I don't want to break it. Even if it's so tempting...

I would actually code Ares to help.

But I should never staff again.

I could do it, but have requirements. And would rule it with an iron fist, which people might not enjoy.

But we're getting off topic of the thread.

I re-started Horizon: Zero Dawn because of the 'What Games would you like to see?' thread, and am trying to figure out how you would even MU-it.

I'd enjoy Horizon: Zero Dawn, as well. (Insert obligatory request to play a robutt here)

Another thing is maybe Ashes? It's a card game I mentioned a while back. I pretty much constantly annoy their parent company's twitter about the non-existant turtle dice, since they cancelled the game (a travesty), and keep on keeping on asking them about an RPG/lore book for their setting. Neither of which will happen, but meh.

This should probably go elsewhere, and I'm too lazy to find where and/or dig up the last time I threw this discussion point down. Re: various people about Star Wars.

Yes, you CAN have a Star Wars game divorced from the SWAG of equipment and such.

      But.

It needs to be using a system that is similarly divorced from equipment SWAG. SAGA edition has all of that typical d20 minutia, and all of the pros and cons of it. One of those cons is being equipment heavy. FFG has entire career paths that are centered around modifying, enhancing, and doing various neato things with equipment.

By saying you are using a ruleset which involves equipment to the degree that both of these systems do, but then to go a step further and say 'except just handwave it' is, as mentioned above, at-odds with the ruleset. Best to use a different system entirely at that point.

@ZombieGenesis The big questions here would be:

      1. Career Grids vs Pyramid
      2. Can haz loot/gear/spacey-zoom-zooms.

      Because I would be down.

As someone who constantly tries to take X idea and make it work in Y ruleset, there are a literal ton of games I'd like to see done/do. TO NAME A FEW (or break them down in a non-standard thematic way of 'those should not go together at all')

      SPACE!
Star Wars, Eclipse Phase, Spell Jammer, possibly Equinox.

My interest in these relies heavily on getting some flight sim code happening, so the more I will love it and am more likely to play, the more likely everyone else will hate them. RIP.

      CRUNCHY!
Mechawarrior/Battletech, Iron Kingdoms RPG, or Pokemon Tabletop United.

Two of these are tabletop wargame settings/rulesets, so all the crunch. Battletech might have gone in space, due to Aerotech, but I'd be down for not having real-time flight for it. Iron Kingdoms, meanwhile, almost requires RPG skirmishes to function using wargame rules, including listing weapon attack ranges in inches, because 'lol, of COURSE they will be using miniatures!' Pokemon... is Pokemon. Game Freak will no longer let you catch them all, but that won't stop us!

      TOO TRICKSY/...HOW?!?
      Cosmere.

Literally just a mosh pit of the assorted cultures and powahz taken from the various books of the Cosmere. I have put 0 thought into this one.

Probably some others, honestly, but those are the ones that come to mind while being distracted at work.

I started to write a response, but stopped when it stopped just being an unpopular opinion, and started to sound like a dissertation.

@secretfire The reason I asked about the books is because the Goauld were invented for the show. Further discussion to be had in a not-advertisement location.

@Lupo001 You forget I was staff there before Mirage soft-banned them for two years (insisting nobody else even touch a matrix-related character app), and then officially banned them by changing the documentation.

I personally only ever saw three Otaku in my 5-ish years being active there. Even if they all became samurai (two of them quit shortly after apping because they couldn't advance matrix-ly), there should be no problem at all with them doing so, given the nature of SR3 and how archetypes blend together.

I forget the character's name, but the all-deltaware fullborg? Started out as a Decker. Not Otaku. Should you ban all Deckers because of this? Mages break theme and get all the Geas'd cybernetics, best ban them, too!

Double Post, but the MEGA CONTROVERTIAL Pokémon announcement wounds me, and now I want that Pokémon MU to be a thing even more.

      Woe.

While I am going to be very sad if I cannot bring my favorite buddies I have amassed over into Sword and Shield, I'm actually not surprised by this.

By, say, Sun and Moon, all they had to do was add models/animation/sprites/sound for the new Alolan Pokedex, because they already had all the 3D models/animations/sprites/sounds. Sword and Shield, they probably wanted to make higher detail models/animations, and I'm betting that redoing every single Pokémon from all previous generations would have quickly caused madness and weeping if they also tried to stay on deadline. Under that logic, I was sort of prepared to be a bit impressed if they had gotten all 807 National Pokedex entries redone.

And in fact, that's the justification given in interviews; they just didn't have the time to get through all of them, so the ones you can't transfer in are the ones where there just aren't assets in the game for those Pokemon, period; it allowed them to focus on the ones they knew had to be in the game. And based on the Alolan Pokedex (302 entries in Sun/Moon, 403 in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon), I fully expect us to get at least a sizeable chunk of the National Pokedex in the Galar Pokedex.

I'm disappointed, yes, but not surprised.

They'll probably be working on porting the rest over time. Maybe halfway through the new Generation lifespan, they'll have it all completed. A bit disappointing, but still hopeful.

Which reminds me I need to get back to the grind of building my Living Dex.

Don't give me hope. I need the RAGE to annoy people into finishing the Pokémon MU.

Edit to add: Apparently Twitter folks are going fucking nuts digging into the Pokemon code and pointing out wacky things like 'hey, if you guys didn't decrypt/encrypt every Pokemon every battle 100+ times, maybe you could have space for other stuff?' and 'WHY are there multiple copies of something that could just... be... one thing?' It's amazing.

The MU equivalent is you have a different Player login/DBRef to use, one in every room on the game, instead of just... having one that you can move from place to place.
