I think I had more hours playing Blitzball than I did playing the rest of the game.

Going from the glory of Triple Triad in VIII to dumb stupid Tetra Master in IX made me want to throw myself into the sea.
Yes, but also...

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@Auspice It's almost like Marvel learned from their mistakes, but despite how publicly said mistakes were, others refused to take the lesson to heart.

RE: Coming Summer 2019
Loosely based off the short stint of novels that spanned between the film and the show, perchance?

@Finn Otaku and/or NuMatrix, or bust.

RE: Scene Set Ideas
I stand by the greatest opening line of a book that I have ever seen, which should work equally amazingly in mu setting:
The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault.

RE: General Video Game Thread
Maybe Sword and Shield will prompt PokeMU to get up and running. I'm all here for the @digging (after I take a crash course in how to do that again) and world building and such. Whee!
I should also get switch codes and the like, for all that sweet, sweet trading. Later. Probably.

RE: Echoes in the Mists - Discussion
… on the one hand, 2e yay! On the other hand... Pacific Northwest means at any moment, the Cascadia Subduction Zone will go bananas and the earthquake no one is prepared for will wipe everything off the map.
…
Hey, who wants to conjure up some Earthquake spirits? Asking for a friend.

Steam has Subnautica on sale, with proceeds going to plastic cleanup something or other, and I'm over here like.
Bills bad. Bills steal monies. Boo bills. Boo.

RE: Demon: the Fallen
@Admiral Once, there was a CoH. The headwiz shut it down. Someone else said 'Hey, I'll open my own, same city and characters! Maybe some different rules here or there...' Then the original wiz re-opened theirs. I don't know specifics beyond that.

RE: Demon: the Fallen
@HorrorHound Not strictly. Both splits of CoH have it, for sure.

RE: Recycling characters
As I mentioned in another thread, I will sometimes try to port characters from entirely different settings, just to see if they will work.
But yeah, I'll take the name and general build, sometimes. I don't port over actions and the like. Mostly because games almost always have your typical starting point. If my character on game 1 reached some elder status, but game 2 still puts you back to normal chargen starting point... there's no need (mostly) to pull that story over, since... it affects nothing. Now... if there's some contrived story reason explaining why you no longer know how to perform brain surgery even though that was your endgame specialty... then sure. Maybe.
I'll recycle some of my more obscure PBs, but that's because I'm usually too lazy to write a new @desc.

RE: The OOC Masquerade ?
@Thenomain said in The OOC Masquerade ?:
And staff's approach informs that culture. Which includes code implementation.
Quoted for truth. Even when the game's +policy documentation explicitly states you are totally allowed to have said OOC Masq and there is even code in place to support it, if a staffer oversteps their bounds and just... removes some of the code bits from your character that were put in place to keep said Masq in place.

RE: The OOC Masquerade ?
The sheer number of people who go around saying 'You can play X, but don't let my character find out about it, because they'll murder you dead' kiiiind of makes me lean in favor of being Pro-Masq. Plus, I like the seekrits.
I'm totally in favor of this one, though:
@Ghost said in The OOC Masquerade ?:
@Thenomain Know what would be cool? WoD wiki pages being based on who they are on top of the masquerade.
Bob is a vampire Hunter by night, but works at a copy store during the day. Bob's wiki page is about his job buddies, his love of pro wrestling, is listed as a mortal.
Radu the vampire is a 450 year old Hungarian Ventrue who has seen the ages turn. He has feasted. He has torpored. He has dined with kings. Radu's wiki is for Timothy Steele, a mortal financial investment banker who enjoys owning box seats for the LA Kings, is an avid sailer on his yacht, and loves his prized mastiff, Archie.
Nevermind the fact that both of them have had to wash blood off of them in a shower in the basement of a YMCA for entirely different reasons.
You could also have a second page of who you actually are for folks in the know, but disassociate the two identities wiki-side. The CoH spinoff game (or the original? I forget the timeline for all that stuff...) had a quaint... I don't want to say solution, but definitely a feature for those who want to use it. Each 'identity' can have it's own DBRef/player object, while they share the same +sheet and xp stuffs. I'm not 100% sure how (or even if) the code enforces not being logged into both simultaneously, but it's a neat idea that could be used for places that want the option.

RE: SW Dice
I totes believe that there shouldn't be player-side automation of XP with this system. Send in a +job, have a staffer sanity-check it for accuracy... easy peasy.
Edit to add: a job I totally volunteer to do, because mindless XP spends/equipment modification (so long as you point me at the rules in the book you want) are the only staff work I'm good at.

@TiredEwok Not a fan of the Smash Bros Cinematic Universe?

RE: Teen Drama
@BlondeBot If you can tolerate oWoD and/or City of Hope-esque Staff, there is Let Freedom Ring - http://letfreedomring.wikidot.com/
Pros are it's 20th Anniversary, so moderately more balanced than your standard oWoD place so you get the lovely 'How DO you do that?' for Mage and actual workable Changelings, and it's set in Real World Philadelphia (obligatory mention of the Cam being run by the FRESH PRINCE, ya'll).
Cons are that there's like 4 people connected at the moment, and it's 20th Anniversary, so you're limited in just WHAT oWoD stuff you have access to (No Demons, no Mummies, slim pickings for Fera Gifts...)
Double-plus good pro: They let me be Snek (pbbbbt), not... that I ever find time to RP there (as mentioned, there's like 4-7 people who log in)... but it exists!

RE: Space Games and Travel Time? Why? Why Not?
@faraday It's not saying complexity is inherantly better. Because Age of Alliances and Serenity are pretty close to the same code for everything (rumors from the time were that Serenity lifted most of their code from AoA, but I don't think they were ever confirmed). One is hella populated, the other is pretty bare bones.
What I am saying is that from what I've seen between the two, AoA feels more like Star Wars than Chontio, to me. And while logins are not the end all be all metric of best game or whatever... Age of Alliances has more players online at this current abnormal RP timeslot (0500 EST) than Chontio's all time record - something that, again to me, says that it exudes more Star Warsiness.
Or not. I could be totally wrong.
I can say that lack of plot likely was a factor, because Plot can definately swing bring back the aura of Star Wars... but but without knowing who is or isn't a staff alt on AoA, I can't speak to how many of the scheduled +events are staff, and how many are PCs stepping up.
