    • RE: Space Sim w/Economy

I'd be willing to pour in ALL THE EFFORT for helping make a game like this. It might not be until sometime in October - Census work on top of my normal job has be pulling 70 hour weeks, which is great for the bank and getting paid to exercise, but hell for social and hobby stuffs.

I've been wanting to learn coding stuff for literal years (that whole 'if you don't like it, make your own' mentality? It's been on my to-do list, damnit). The GOAL is to make something modular enough it can get plugged into other games and easily synch with whatever is there. Impossible... but maybe not?

Or anyone who has the code to one of these games that'd be willing to work on resurfacing it?

      Hopefully this will work!

There is a missing file in my directory that github wouldn't allow me to load - working theory is because the file I have is 0kb, maybe? I dunno! The file that's missing:

      hconsole.h

Have at ye, code! If this gets put up anywhere for testing, let me know! I used to crash the testbed MU pretty regularly doing nonsense things.

@skew said in Whatever Happened To Star Wars MU*s?:

Were I to do it again, I'd not use FFG. As Faraday says, people want ships and guns and fiddly systems that I didn't have (and didn't want). People want that grit of a Star Wars game, which includes the books and books of lore and history. I didn't have this, and more than a few players left exactly because of this.

To be fair, you didn't actually use FFG. Well... you did. You used Genesys. Which was the equivalent to, say... advertising a SAGA edition game, but using the first edition d20 Star Wars rules, instead.

On the other end, players were turned off by having to learn a new system that is, imo, horrible for a MU. No fault of Faraday, she did a great job implementing it. It's just not a MU-friendly system.

How is it not a MU-friendly system? Asking legitimately (and will happily hop into a different thread for it, if need be).

there is clearly a demand for it's existence

      That doesn't mean it's a good idea.

It doesn't mean it's a bad idea, either.

With maybe a trading system latched on. Plz. We needs it, precious.

      Some people never learn...

Some people do not learn, you're right. Despite what you, or any number of anti-space trucker simulator people want to admit, there is clearly a demand for it's existence - @Auspice and I being particularly vocal about it, for instance, but also what appears to be a steady activity level on a game that adamantly uses and enforces space trucker shenanigans.

    • RE: New Face 4 New Games

@Joyeuse Age of Alliances was my first MU ever. I went in on it HARD, to the point that I earned a Force User on it, like. 3 different times (and each time losing access to them when I left for DCI for the summer - something I told them would be happening each time I was offered space wizard, and was told it wouldn't be an issue. TURNS OUT IT WAS. AHEM)

I mean. I still like it. In theory. But in practice, I hate a bunch of the little things going on with it. At the moment, the SOLE REASON I might go back and play is that they have a space trucker simulator that I can fiddle with in my downtime.

Space Trucker Simulator is a BIG FACTOR for me, and I should have mentioned it in the other thread (will ETA it if I remember).

City of Hope is.... City of Hope. Join my crusade to play a snek!

Are people (out of those here, I guess) very intrinsically interested in any of the particular (d6/d20/dFunnySymbols) systems?

Yes. Literally 50% of the reason I bailed of Age of Alliances, and a full 90% why I never really got into Dawn of Defiance/Generations of Darkness, are system-based.

I've talked a bit about how I think FFG's system is a terrible choice for MUing, but it's not like the prior ones are all that great either.

I am in the opposite boat - I think it is an awesome choice. I absolutely LOATHE the all-or-nothing dice rolls of other systems. If whoever is STing says 'bad happens, even though dice good', the shit hits the fan, ooc.

Advantages, disadvantages, triumphs, dispair... all of that gives a wider spread of fanciness that can happen in RP. It ESPECIALLY encourages cooperative storytelling, where you can suggest to spend X advantage on Y thing happening... rather than leaving it all on the ST to do for you, OR put them in a place to say 'no, Y does not happen, there are no rules for it'

Edit to add: I'm not saying that having some sort of space trucker/flight simulation is REQUIRED or anything. But it's a moderately sized factor for me. I don't want simulated battle! Just... something to kill time between scenes. With maybe a trading system latched on. Plz. We needs it, precious.

I would realistically need to hire staff.

Depending on game, would def staff for 0 monies, or just... like. Free access?

I'm in the past, so this might be covered in later stuffs, buuuuuut...

If you're charging for a thing like this, make it as widely accessible as possible. Or do a thing like ThenoCode where multiple games run off the same things, so updating one game updates all. Hell, if you're charging for access, let the charging allow access to any of the games being run. That might soften the blow for folks who would otherwise have a hard no for paying for stuffs.

I'm tied up working the Census (and holy shit, it's exhausting, but also amazing? Paid from the time the ignition starts to leave home, basically until car turns off coming back. Apply today!), but maybe after all of that is said and done and I can get out from under various debt and the like, I can like. Latch onto a coder to TEACH ME THEIR SEEKRITZ. Because there are several features I've seen at different games that I'd just fucking LOVE to compile together into the Ultimate MUSH Codebase That Everyone Loves Forever.

I will toss out there that everyone refusing to do the politic talks is a prime cause of our current shitstorm (which makes more people refuse to talk about it, causing more of a shitstorm... a self-sustaining loop!) To be further discussed behind closed doors, because there are zero adults left, I guess.

So also, I'd like to mention the death of political discourse (sometime waaay before 2019... in the MU community, it died when the first person were banned for doing a politic on pub chan, rather than the designated pol chan or whatever. But. It is what it is.)

Gah, download the knowledge to create/run a mush into my brain. I have like three I want to exist.

This is a hell of a mood, and I live it perpetually. I'd even go so far as to like. Pay a coder every now and then.

Instead of a Mortal Kombat MU being game-esque, it could always closer resemble the old series that existed at one point, with the wacky exploits of Kung Lao? I dunno.

Tangentially related to the first post in this thread, a NEW BATTLETECH KICKSTARTER is upon us. And almost over.

      But.

This one may or may not involve an Urbanmech plushie. And the opportunity to have a canon character written into the universe (which I am going to try my best to get Clan Hobo to become a real thing. JOIN US!)

      But also.

A Harry Potter/Hogwarts style game, but. With Star Wars Space Wizards. The Clone War Era books even have Padawan, Knight, and Master as career specializations.
