@arkandel Uh. We get new players.
I know several who are brand new to MU*'s. I myself have brought new people into the game.
I am not saying we don't need something universal, because that would be very cool, just saying.

@ixokai You are being awfully defensive. We as a whole on this board are very open about our feelings and perceptions in general.
Just because we disagree with you doesn't necessarily mean we are attacking you. We do have concerns, and we voice them, you don't. That's fine. The way you keep coming back to defend things is kind of odd all things considered.
Just because you weren't the problem I had, doesn't mean I didn't have problems. The same is true for everyone and anyone else who did have problems that were not related to you.
As a whole though, if we're not invested into a game we're more likely to just walk. So because of that, because of what we experienced, a fair number of us have already walked.
No game is for everyone, but you can be all 'Dear God' all you like, we're still going to talk about it.

Toying with the idea of slipping mages in there, but ugh mages. Mortal+, probably.
Do. Not. Do.
To even contemplate such a thing is to break your game. Even Mortal + has some stupidly silly broken powers, not even talking about the pyro/cryokinesis either.
Mage takes any setting you want and breaks it, unless that setting is focused around mage.
That reminds me I just reinstalled Bloodlines recently...

What this thread has taught me is that no matter what, "good game" and "bad game" are subjective and people will always find something to praise and something to damn about anything, and that someone will always rise up in defense and someone will always double-down on criticism when that happens.
So, really, I guess it didn't teach me a damn thing I didn't already know.
Really the Haven thread nailed that straight into my temples. I mean everyone knew that Dark Metal was a 'bad game' but it had it's charms, and I don't necessarily think that The 100 is a 'bad' game, just that when I played, I had issues and some other things fell apart so I left.
The thing here is that people have experiences, and as soon as anyone says that their experience or opinion doesn't matter, of course that's going to piss people off.
As was mentioned earlier there is this idea that being 'in charge' is some carrot, some goal, that people should strive for.
It's /really/ not.
I cannot stress that enough, but so many people seem to think it is, that it's the ultimate expression of PC power, well no, not really. It's not something everyone should try to be, most people /can't/ even try to be it, because they would fail.
As was said before also (by someone else I think) if you are silly enough to have PC leadership all over, don't be afraid to remove them one way or the other.
It's not a carrot, it's a bullseye on your back.

I've looked at most of the superhero/comic themed mushes, I think. My problem is most of them use a DC or Marvel included content.
While I like said content, I don't want to RP in said content. Those I used to play on are gone, I think. (With original themes), or too rules heavy for me to deal with, making me feel at a loss of how to function within the game.
Yeah I am the same, I don't want to deal with Kryptonians, or Magneto, or other already pre-written crazyness. It is impossible to keep up with all the versions of these characters, and then when people want to put their personal spins on things it gets even worse. This is why I dislike Marvel/DC/<insertpublishedcomichere> themed games.
I don't know, maybe I should just build up an Aberrant based game, put in some house rules to handle things like Mega-Strength, get rid of Taint, and just go. At least a billion people are familiar with the core of WoD rules so it'd be easy to pick up.

It's a lot to overcome. I'd love to see the Marvel world brought to life in a game, the 60's is interesting also, but I'd prefer it if the FC's weren't available for play and people created their own characters and stories. If there was ever a universe that had room for OC's, it's Marvel's.
I'm not sure why Marvel has more room than DC or other universes.
In any case, I think the niche theme will probably help the people who do play focus on characterization and how to interpret characters.
But I am also a really big fan of alterante realities and stuff, so maybe that's just my jam.
There's a /huge/ difference in power between FC's and what is available for OC's in the DC universe. Superman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, they are huge power wise and there is no chance for an OC to be the same power level as them. Even the rest of the Justice League has nothing to really step up with except for possible Captain Atom and a few others... which are just more FC's. Not even gonna touch Batman here.
Marvel's got some pretty powerful beings, but they're not on Earth most the time, so the big bads aren't always flying around and doing things every day. The most iconic for Marvel are people like Captain America (or used to be), The X-Men, Fantastic Four, and spider-man who are powerful but not unapproachable by OC's.
So in the DC universe OC's are generally even /worse/ off than Marvel when it comes to having OC's be relevant. The power gap is less a thing for Marvel OC's on most games (Strong people in Marvel toss around 100 tons, not counting a few outliers. Strong people in DC toss around hundreds of thousands of tons).
That's what I mean.
@redmeadow What is good in concept doesn't always work well in practice. Every time Mage is involved in a game, it dominates the game, sometimes that is intended, sometimes not. But Mage's as PC's will overshadow what anyone else can do, cuz once a Magi gets to Arcana 5, stuff is seriously broke.
Alright, so the BESM stuff isn't for this topic, please take to chat or messages or whatever.
So far I have one person wanting a loose rule set, and one wanting a very strict rule set, but both wanting Supers! which is funny all things considered.
Hmm... Supers is a bit more low powered than I was wanting so will also take some tweaking as well.
Aberrant on one hand, (with a completely new setting, I have ideas of how the world reacts to the Nova's and the cause of them, no Divis Mal etc), or a beefed up Supers on the other (Talking like, 7 to 8D instead of 4-5D caps).
@Coin You're choosing to miss my original point then:
If the FC's are 'Featured' /and/ more 'Powerful' than any OC can EVER be, then what is the point of trying to be involved as an OC?
It's just another reason why FC's and OC's don't really mix.
I need to come up with a solid domain name that can host both my wiki and Darkwater's wiki without a problem that will help a lot too.
Mortal Kombat would be a functional game world, and people would RP the hell out of it because really, what does all the MU*'s in the world have in common?
Bar RP
Beach/Social RP (Even if there shouldn't be a beach, it's really weird)
TS
Conflict/Fights
You could use any number of systems for it, but honestly... something cinematic would be what I'd go for or on the other hand, something utterly and completely crunchy.
So Hero System, or Fate.
I don't think you should buy swmush.com or whatever, it's just an address and doesn't really matter I was just poking to poke.
@ortallus The police should still verify every fucking thing before the go in guns blazing. The police have tools to get eyes and ears on a situation and if there is a live fire situation should be /clearing/ innocents, like the neighbors, etc.
So I am in agreement with @Thenomain here that /everyone/ needs to be accountable. Cops are killing unarmed people for pulling up their fucking pants.
Are all cops bad? No. I don't think every cop is a racist killer. Some are, sure, cuz cops are people too.
As for why I created /this/ thread, is because the whole topic didn't belong on Elsa's thread. Doesn't matter why it came up or how
I don't see why we need to come up with a consensus on MW at all. Just like we've not come to a consensus about what code to use. Some like MUX, some like Penn, some like Rhost, etc etc.
Some people like MW, I do, I know how to set it up, use it, and my wiki staffer likes using it.
I host my wiki and my game on the same site without a problem.
So I would say use what is best for you, or what you enjoy using the most, because until now I'd never even cared about what is used for the wiki so long as the adds are not horrible.
You are probably right. I wish I had ran into situations where that didn't seem to be the case. When I was there it was one big asshole after another: Do what I say or starve. You can't use this unless you fight me for it. If you go against me I'll kill you in your sleep.
There was so much angst and asshole that it is all we ever remember seeing, even if we did see other stuff, because it got drowned out.
@royal This is one of the things that always bugged me about Werewolf games, Loci were either not available at all, or were /too/ available, so they were no longer a resource to be fought over.
It's one of the things that doesn't translate well from TT to MU*. If you have a Locus, then it is going to draw attention, but that requires direct staff involvement. If you don't, then you /need/ to get one, else how are you going to patrol the spirit side? It's a major point of werewolf territory but is never used appropriately in the MU environment in my experience.
@Sunny Well I take the 'Didn't read the rules' answer right out of the available options. Yes, you don't /have/ to read the rules (Though I am working on a way to make it mandatory but even then someone could just not read and look for key things) as they scroll across your screen, but people are signing that they have read and understand the rules before they even make it past the new player room on my game.
I also agree that as I have gotten older, there's just more and more stuff I cannot and will not fuck around with anymore. Follow the rules, or be gone. It's really that simple.
@Arkandel I never once said it's a new problem.
It is a problem that is exacerbated by FC's however.
It's why /I/ prefer a game that is OC only.
