@bored It does not help that quite a lot of games have implemented FS3 without the people running it actually reading the documentation at all. I have been on more than one where various stances/weapons/whatever have actually been doing the opposite of their stated intention with staff utterly oblivious until I pointed it out to them.

Things like shields making it easier to hit you, that kind of stuff.

@Seraphim73 and I may have sighed at one another a time or ten about people not reading the rules.

I mean. There's fewer rules to FS3 than D&D or WoD. Cmon. 😉

There's fewer rules but I never really got my head around them or saw how they clicked with what was happening on game. It was all very confusing, tbh.

Would anyone be interested in playing a sire to Nev? I warn that I play sporadically on most games (I haven't even scened yet here yet :[...). But someone who can be disapproving and always oh-so-disappointed with Nev would be fun to play off of.

      Everyone is tempting me!

      Come play with me us!

I'm playing with you RIGHT NOW

I'm pretty pleased about that. Every time I see you asking for RP and not getting it, I worry you're gonna fuck off. >.>

Hah. Good luck. When Changeling comes I'm literally going to just start RPing in the OOC room until someone drags me out of it to scene with me. SO MANY IDEAS.

@Auspice said in NOLA: The Game That Care Forgot:

I am hearing bits and pieces about it from Judy on my bus ride home. 😄

I'm in that awkward first few weeks of a character phase where you have to wriggle around a bit schizophrenically, like the last few seconds of putting on a glove before it fits just right. But I think I'm getting the hang of Yvette!

How active would you say the game is? I see a lot of action on the administrative end (which is good) but is there enough RP to go around?

I've had some trouble finding people to RP with, but I am probably logging on late. I've had a scene, and it was very enjoyable.

ETA: I've only been on for about two weeks
and during that time only actively pursued scenes about five or six times.

You do often show up a bit late! My issue is I don't have a lot of time left at work when you're often searching for a scene. But I wanna play more.

      I just want my Sharia El-Sama back ;_;

I'll look into the ladder peeps tho.

Even I've been tempted to make a Sworn of the Ladder. Technically they're a secret society within the Ordo Dracul and there's no rules for them in 2e but they could be made easily. Mostly they get benefits for having high humanity, which seems like your jam!

I dunno about the Sharia El-Sama, I never really played Masquerade. Except the video games, and a whole stack of the card game.

Play true to theme, kids. This is New Orleans. It was a Nutria of Unusual Size.

@RDC said in NOLA: The Game That Care Forgot:

I find vampire's theme more compelling because I LIKE "but deep down you have to tackle the darkness inside you that you can never ever get away from".

I like this if and only if the possibility exists for a vampire to constantly fight the evil and not just give in and lose forever. Being a vampire who wants to be good and has all of eternity (or is damned for all of eternity) to keep scrabbling toward the Light in her attempts to get there is very compelling to me.

You totally can. You can trip and fall and lose Humanity, but you CAN get it back. It just isn't as easy as a Werewolf moving up and down or a Changeling healing Clarity damage.

Everything I'm hearing really makes me think we should just get @Rinel to play an Ordo Dracul Sworn of the Ladder.

To explain for Rinel's benefit, they're Ordo Dracul vampires. Adepts of Anoushka, Dracula's second childe, the Sworn of the Ladder seek to mitigate the curse through selfless deeds that would counter the cravings of the Beast.

There are certain things in the Lancea / Theban that require a high Humanity but that is part of why it is compelling to ME. You embrace that you are Damned. You embrace (ha ha) that you are an example to humanity as to why they should not sin and why they should walk a righteous path.

My last Lance helped in the Embrace of another Mekhet and while she was thrilled to see him join them, at the same time: she kept warning him away. She kept telling him that being around them was wrong. That he should stop. That he was a good priest and staying a priest was the smart thing and that if he knew what was best for him, he would forget all about the vampires and keep to mortal life.

.....but he didn't and they killed him and then they brought him back and she taught him how to murder.

Meanwhile she shoved my Lisa down holes 😞

Why you're more concerned about being shoved down that hole than bullied into murdering a human alongside all the other baby vamps I'll never know.

Lisa wasn't bullied into murdering humans she did that on her own.

I'm loving it. I wish a dozen games like this came out in a year. I LOVE what they're doing tying a central character like "The Curator" into the game series as a narrator and am excited as fuck for the next one, Little Hope.

If you can, play it co op, online. It is actually kind of amazing to play co op.

      I was surprised too!

At this point I'd almost be tempted to say it's a copy-cat, but they showed me some of the pages and that semi-awkward style would be hard to replicate. And a troll/copy-cat would be tempted to go further than Jill does.

She is an enigma for the ages.

My first thought was a copy-cat, yeah.

@Rinel said in NOLA: The Game That Care Forgot:

@RDC said in NOLA: The Game That Care Forgot:

@Rinel There are two religious sects in VtR, the Circle of the Crones (basically every pagan religion banded together to be numerous enough to not burn wholesale for heresy separately) and the Lancea et Sanctum, a splinter of Catholicism that believes Longinus (the dude who stabbed Jesus with a spear) is the vampire antichrist and that all vampires are, by their nature, Damned. It's their job to sin a bunch and to punish mortal sinners and to be an example of what not to do.

Also don't read the in-game book of theirs if you're squeamish about non-consensual sex acts and...basically just everything someone might put into an Aristocrats joke but played straight as if it were the most serious, badass shit ever.

Uh. Are there any ones who aren't, you know... awful?

Lance dogma taken to it's extreme can be pretty awful, but the average newbie vamp who ends up in the Lance does so because they're the only covenant who really offers a reason 'why'.

The Circle will tell you that vampires have always existed and are as natural as anything else, get over it.
The Ordo Dracul cares more about what comes next than why.
The Invictus and Carthians are more interested in political power and money etc.

The Lance will tell you that unfortunately you're Damned, and God hates you now, but you know what? There's still a place for you in The Plan and even God NEEDS someone to be Damned.

For someone who's had their life literally turned upside down and found themselves a blood drinking creature of the night, I imagine that can be kind of comforting, and the average quite Lance member just wants to 'live' their Requiem in peace and doesn't shy away from the fact they need to drink blood now and again, or even if they frenzy and accidently kill a person or three, they can use their faith to find their footing and kind of justify it. Or at least cope with it. It's awful, sure, because they are monsters.

They don't have to be super awful and monstrous though. Plenty might, as time goes on, but at a basic level it's a simple message.
