RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
you can be disrespectful while writing things respectfully. it's like how everyone dogpiled on faraday when she started talking about wanting to make a new MU* codebase with more web integration. she asked for opinions on doing that, but instead, everyone was like 'oh god you shouldn't do this at all it's horrible'. and sorry, that's not a respectful way to interact with a topic about ways to implement it.

RE: RL Anger
I have to admit, I get uncomfortable when even other people are gleeful about another person's death. Even a fictional character's death.
I can /understand/ having those feelings. But like-- reveling in it and celebrating? idk, man. Which isn't at all like your situation, @Auspice. I am just talking in generalities.

RE: Diversity Representation in MU*ing
Arx doesn't just 'ban black characters'. There's plenty of black characters around on Arx. So unless you're willing to provide more to the story, what your concept was, etc, well then. I will take your whole thing with a grain of salt.

RE: RL Anger
Where did anyone say that you /must/ be offended by that? It was said that it was a term that was highly offensive, ie a lot of people would find it offensive, not all. Like, I really feel that someone read into the posts things that weren't there.
No one said you /must/ be offended by telling someone to 'Kill themselves', either. But holy shit, are a lot of people going to find that offensive. No one has to find 'nigger' offensive, either, for example. But it is an offensive word for the majority of people. I could keep going on and on.
You don't /have/ to be offended by a word and you can still acknowledge that it is an offensive word to a lot of people. If you didn't realize it was an offensive word (ie hey, i fucking used the word 'gypsy' for most of my adult life without realizing that it was a slur), then that doesn't negate that it is an offensive word to a lot of people. In that case, you still don't have to be offended, but you can acknowledge that it is an offensive word and either choose not to use it or choose to keep using it.
But I am honestly baffled where people said or implied you /had/ to be offended by it. Labeling a word as 'offensive' is not equal to saying you have to be offended by it. And yes, the context matters on what word is offensive. Saying 'fuck' on a message board is not offensive, saying 'fuck' at work could be offensive. Saying 'suck my dick' if you have one and you're in a private intimate moment with your chosen partner is not offensive, screaming out the window of my car to a woman walking on the sidewalk is.
These are not hard things to grasp. Idk, man.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
I slept on this and thought about it so I could make sure that I wasn't wading back in in a reactionary way. But I have to disagree; I'm sorry. I don't think you're being fair to Kanye Qwest.
Kanye Qwest has some consistent, repeatable, pretty obvious buttons. She is protective of her people. That includes Apostate and Tehom, of course, but she has also taken all of us on Arx as her people (which I like a lot, tbh). And Thenomain was being a dick about something one of her people did. (He's admitted he was being dickish, we all can agree, whatever.) It may have even been a 'brush off your shoulder' insult for some people (I'm not here to weigh insults, either), but you definitely have to know by reading even a bit of what Kanye Qwest has written before, that this is going to push a button.
And it didn't really have to be Thenomain. I know it seems like it's Thenomain a lot, but she has been consistent, on game and on this thread, in wanting to make sure that people aren't doing things that will stomp on other people's fun. The message wasn't just for one person.
You can't call a doorbell crazy and overreactive if you go to press it 20 times.

@shangexile I'm not your bro, bro. And this isn't a country, it's a forum. You are so fcking creepy; that is all I want to state for the record.

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
Actually. I will call out a hate mob thing I've seen before: A lot of the hate that was thrown at @Kanye-Qwest in the Arx advertising thread about just, the stupidest shit. She definitely got more than she deserved for unwarranted things. (Someone coming onto her ad thread and insulting her players, and then her facing others shouting at her for it.) I guess we could put that off on loud voices and unkind voices, but it does feel like a hate mob, sometimes.
I do wish we were more willing to check each other. Because even when it is pointed out as it happens or called out (as I was trying to point out as it happens), sometimes it still doesn't help.
Which, I think, boils down to different feelings of warranted or deserving or etc etc.
That said, if Arkandel was asking if MSB is /always/ helpful, the answer would be pretty clear. But I think that the people that are strictly looking at 'well people are mean and sometimes unwarrantedly a bitch to others' aren't looking at the big picture.

RE: MU Things I Love
I love my friends, who I never would have made without MU*s.
I love that I can meet someone on a MU* and now I'm gonna have scones with them on Sunday.
I love all you crazy kids.
That is all, carry on. I just really needed to share love.

RE: Review of Recent Bans
Thank you for unbanning me. I maintain that I did nothing worth getting banned, even as each rule was put in place/requested.
I just lost someone close to me, and I won't be going into too much here, but I will clarify two things:
I'm not coming back. And I posted a ts/ship/ban post on the new forum, when I was tipsy and in a silly mood; I never ever mentioned 'killing' anyone. It was locked right away and then deleted. But if you want to be vitriolic about it, I won't stop you.
Good luck guys. Take care and goodbye.

RE: Armageddon MUD
@evilcabbage but only because you are losing, right?
It's totally not a competition, guys.
ETA: guy posts three times arguing for why quotes can be emphasis, starts losing to Faraday, posts about how this isn't the place for the argument. Is one of the drinking rules covering this?

Ok, for anyone curious. These are the pictures she is referring to, I'm p sure. And it's a long and not very interesting story. Like, a number of years ago, about 6? 7? My stepdad gave them to me to sell on e-bay for him. He'd bought them when he was young and just out of college with his first real job. And he thought that naked women in fancy frames was classy art. Literally, he was just trying to figure out classy art and he looked at these and thought 'yeah, this'.
So I got them, meant to list them somewhere to sell them-- never did. So instead, they sat around my apartment for a year because I was too lazy. Then I got the bright idea to just hang them up, because if I was too lazy to sell them, hanging them up is the next logical step! So I did. And then they just kind of became-- permanent. I even rearranged the art several times, until eventually now they sit above my bed, making a faux headboard for it.

RE: RL Anger
@Misadventure they literally called a whole subsection of people sub-human and linked a picture of someone with Down's syndrome to illustrate 'sub-human'? What is there to undermine in anything they said?

RE: Make MSB great again!
@arkandel said in Make MSB great again!:
@misadventure said in Make MSB great again!:
A wiki to store the same old fight summaries, played by lists, MU* lists.
Who would write the summaries? Would it be objective? Does it work for late comers who might want to debate things others happen to have seen before?
I will write all the summaries. They will be written in the style of the MSB Cliques thread. All my inherent biases will remain intact.

RE: RL Anger
Sometimes making jokes about a pervasive culture that is literally hurting and killing people is not the right choice to make.
It doesn't help the problem. We don't need to laugh about it. Not wanting it lessened with humor isn't a high horse.

RE: Make MSB great again!
I think, in all of this, some of us are losing sight of the way this forum is good to each other. The Hog Pit gets nasty. Ads get flamed. Civil discourse often gets into circle jerky, arguing against the person posts.
But look at Tastes Less Gamey. It is obvious that we can be a friendly community there. We make jokes, share our lives. Hell, we have helped someone move and someone recover from a car wreck.
We're not all bad, is all I am asking people to keep in mind.

RE: Your Opinions of These Games
The thing that I noticed with Guest Stars at F&L was that they were played just like PCs. They didn't gain XP or PK, no. (But they skirted that last rule a lot, and did a lot of things that should have /invited/ people to PK them, but given their sheets, well.)
But, my main issue with them is that they /could/ and /did/ dominate plots. At one point, it felt like Luxor, the vampire staff, was just running a plot to show off the sheet of his vampire Guest Star.
Which just felt very meh, on top of his tone issues and inability to take any feedback on his tone, and playing favorites.
I liked the rest of the staff and the players at F&L. I would actually recommend checking it out, since I think people can enjoy it. Just not me, apparently.
Never tried Fate's Harvest because people I trust told me to stay away from anything with Spider involved. And I trust them, so.
The other games, never heard of.
