Exposure to lots of different foods is great for kids but please dont beat yourself up if there are things they cant handle taste/texture wise, a lot of that can just be how they are! And the buggers change their preferences sometimes at the drop of a hat!

RE: What do you eat?
They havent been appearing here yet, but when they are in season I love chayote squash. They look like green grumpy muppet characters, have a very mild flavor and do NOT get squishy gross when sauteed like regular summer squash. We actually use them as taco fillings sometimes or in stir fries.

RE: What do you eat?
I will say that probably one of the reasons why I like tofu and seitan is because I have always had access to fresh, locally produced products. The vaccum packed shelf stable stuff is gross (imo).

RE: What do you eat?
I love tofu and seitan but I do not see them as meat "substitutes" as they are their own delicious thing. I think the substitute concept does not really work too well. I prefer the taste of soy, almond, or cashew beverages but they do not replace dairy products, it's a totally different taste and mouth feel.
There are some vegan "cheese" options I like as spreads, but it isnt cheese!
I still eat meat and dairy products too, but have happily eaten vegan and vegetarian for months or years at a time, especially when I didnt live in an area with immediate access to small farm eggs, milk, and mear.

RE: If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP
I really like the idea of including desired content. That would def help people who love or dont mind certain things being able to RP that, and those who maybe aren't so interest not jump in and then get grumpy. (Like a rescuing someone/tending to them scene, I find people have a varying enjoyment of those depending on how often they have had to do that with that person or that week in general). I am sure targeted content will piss someone off but I think it would be great. Light getting to know you social, plot info about x, rescue me, be pickpockets by me, gossip about x situation, ect. I think it might encourage some people to get out and about if it wasnt such a random grab bag.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I am amazed with how many times people do not respond to RSVPs! But I have found that evite and other built in reminder/email platforms seem to have a higher response rate. I think a lot of people get something in a kids backpack or mail and set it aside instead of responding right away and then forget it. my kids always loved mail so that wasnt so much an issue for us (and I need to respond to pause stuff right away or I will get sidetracked so now it is a habit for me). It is still distressing though in situations where you must have a headcount or you have an anxious kiddo.

RE: If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP
I think Arx has a lot of old school "spontaneity" that a lot of other games do not as far as strangers being findable and rpable in public spaces. It is still hard work a lot of the time to work into deeper play. I am not sure it was ever "easier", I just had a lot of time and patience for bad behavior when I was a younger woman.
If you decide to give arx a try feel free to ping me too! I would be happy to help!

RE: Recycling characters
While I have only really done it with names/personalities it does not bother me when others do it. I even have a soft spot for a notorious one (Izzy) who is just sweet as pie and harmless ooc in my dealings with her.
If I worried about all the things people do that dont even remotely affect my PC ( I've seen their PC on every wod game I've played in the last 10 years, if I have a new PC it's new to my PC so who the fuck cares) then I do not think I could enjoy myself on the game. And in fact I burn out when I start to worry about things like that (overly focused on meaningless things that I have no control over).

RE: Gray Harbor Discussion
Yeah, honestly, I would not have a problem restricting non-local pcs. It just doesn't read the same to me as disability restrictions. I cannot really put my finger on why. maybe the exotification of it? I am sure this was meant well but it really makes me super uncomfortable.
-
RE: Gray Harbor Discussion
I have to admit that the specific disability quota is really offputting to me. Just as offputting as a game saying "we have too many asians" (I have in fact heard this said before elsewhere!) And I have seen limitations on non-straight pcs too, though this was in the 90s.

RE: WoW Classic
My fave memory is from UBRS, when you can bypass some stuff and jump down into that arena to start a boss fight. A friend of our forgot to put his mechanical yeti away before jumping down, so it ran through all the places bypassed and brought all those monsters into the arena, so we were dead before the first wave of the arena stuff really even started, and it just kept on filling up and up with monsters because there was one hidden rogue alive to keep things going.

RE: RL things I love
Trying really hard not to lose it. School board room is over capacity with spillage into the hall, rainbow and trans pride flags and stickers e everywhere.. All parents/kids/community supporters. My kid is first on the speakers list followed by nearly all of the speakers being other students also. Trying hard to not bawl and embarrass my kid and their friends who I am sitting with. Things were so different even 4 years ago. I guess sometimes when you jump and trust your community they will catch you and hold you close. No room for bigotry today in our district.

RE: The OOC Masquerade ?
Also, I think I have been fortunate because even when I-player knew what someone was, with someone I had really built a RP connection with, and something happened to out then or they outed themselves, the fallout/discovery/reactions by both/consequences have always been exciting and surprising and I got to see yet another glimpse of the /character/ not the generic label on their sheet.
-
RE: The OOC Masquerade ?
I think there will always be an element of hiding PC actions though. To me, keeping your status as engaging in traitorous activities or being a spy isnt an ooc masque, I tend to see masque as more of a "what are you", not "who are you", but that is probably heavily influenced by my WoD background.
-
RE: The OOC Masquerade ?
I love the tension of characters not knowing. I will be honest though, I have experienced more and richer storytelling both officially and inter personally about the juggling/balacing of keeping secrets and conflicts of living a life while having to hide what you are in the ABSENCE of an ooc mask. Superior and more enjoyable storytelling. In the ooc masque it did not encourage risk taking storytelling and challenge at all, quite the opposite, with discovery stuff being focused on the ooc.
That being said, I dont think there is anything inherently wrong with ooc masque. It just has not been my experience that it serves the purpose people want from it.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
My hubby has worked from home as a software developer for over 20 years, and yet is not an asshole incapable of respecting time or deadlines with people, whether he's working with them or not. So. My vote is just being selfish and used to being selfish.

RE: RL Anger
Update, apparently after securing parental permission (and giving mine as well since I got the AP testing day wrong) I am giving a ride to 7 teens from the GSA club at the high school over to the school board meeting, even though we will need to take off one period early so they have a chance to get there in time to make the speaking list. Also cool are the many offers they've received from adults that will be glad to sign up and then yield their time to them I'd necessary and we dont get there right when the doors open. So yay, I just get to hand out support stickers and keep my mouth shut.

RE: RL Anger
There is a group of anti-gay people that is going to protest at the next school board meeting, because they are angry that the district has a very affirming/inclusive environment. (This was vital to my oldest's mental health, I believe...while there was bullying from some students, which can happen for anything regardless of anyone's identity, the policies applied made it safe for him to be able to use the restroom, be addressed appropriately by staff/teachers, the schools were allowed to have GSA clubs so he had several teachers and students who were safe, ect.)
One of these anti-gay people was stupid enough to post a link in a neighborhood group to their very slick website that is full of misinformation, the usual scare tactics, the call for "unity and respect for everyone's beliefs, so please keep your gayness to yourself, I don't want my children exposed to such depravity," ect.
I am fucking tired. We fought like hell to get these policies in place in our district. Many of us have been fighting like hell to keep protections in place, including many hours of driving 2.5 hours one way to testify for 10 minutes in the state capitol, alongside many many others. I personally have been called just about every name in the book by the many bigots, redpill-ers, fundamentalists, ect. because my name is public at many of these events.
I wish that once you got a policy in place it was DONE, but it's not. so next Monday I get to sit through a very inconvenient 4 PM board meeting because we are going to make sure that we outnumber the people who want the kids and everyone else to go back in the closet. My kid has AP testing prep so probably won't make it, but I'm reading his statement. I want to look these bigots in the face. They're anonymous right now, because of course they are, but in order to be at the meeting they're going to have to look hopefully hundreds of people who are LGBTQ+ parents with kids in the district, or parents of LGBTQ+ kids in the district, or both, and have to say that they think we should be erased from discussion/acknowledgement, as if that's going to shield their kids from finding out that gay people exist and their parents have lied to them about how horrible they are.
I'm going to do it, I'm glad I got the reminder it's still very important. But I am so fucking tired as hell.

RE: RL Anger
I have thought about putting a secured room in our house, because I know with murphy's law if there's any place that the house is going to collapse once the big one hits, it's going to be the area that I keep a large portion of our supplies for the shit hitting the fan. Having a reinforced room would be awesome, and then I wouldn't need to split shit up between several different places (though I probably would anyway, because I'm lazy and it already is where it is). I'm sure it would still be creepy to some folks, kind of organized but also a whole bunch of stuff flung in there to make the rest of the house presentable sort of way.
