RE: Paying for a MU*?
Premium content pay MUDs have made more than coffee money but not a living.
Virtual sex work is and was a thing on WoW.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Does anyone have strong experience with disability from the government? I have a friend who applied and didn't succeed, and I am wondering if they should get a lawyer or a service to help or what. PM if you have any advice or thoughts.

RE: The Work Thread
@macha wow they are inefficient. I work with sensitive data. Our trainings are recorded with dummy information because it's amazingly more effective than waiting until someone can step in again.
Hope you can move on soon.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@wizz yikes, maybe it's time to take that jewelry called nipple shields literally.
Why are cats this way???

RE: The Work Thread
@macha this may already be on the table, but if not: consider having the trainers use screen and voice recording software (its out there for free) and either with a trainee present (you), or alone have them narrate what they are doing and why then share that video. They can do that al day and it's available for viewing and reviewing, transcripting, and it's not dependent on being able to connect at a specific moment time or technologywise.
I'm beginning to think this "training" and these managers are why that project is borked.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
@groth DO IT!
I heartily recommend trying to take games whose setup or fiction you like and fitting it to a set of rules you prefer. You'll probably have people point out that X was im/possible under the old rules and now it's the opposite, but I've never seen any setting REALLY be shaped or accurately fitted to the rules of the game associated with it. (Except Dragonlance, where they kept Vancian casting).

RE: New World
@grayson wow that's a bug. Last time I caught that working was 2000, and that wasn't a released product.

Only slightly related, another social theory that's popular in Scandinavia and I have not seen much in the anglosphere is master suppression techniques. They're a study of the ways women in the workplace are commonly socially punished and by being aware of them, you can try to counteract them.
This is much closer to what I was asking about.

RE: Cat Character Drawings
@crawfish I feel like you should feel guilty abut opening the thread without cat character artwork.

@ganymede how do we all work to change that dynamic?

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@macha best wishes! WFH with better pay and understanding they need to provide their own equipment sounds like a much better circumstance.

RE: How is there not a Gloomhaven thread here?
I personally rarely like premade content. I like sytems and rules and some stuff in game and in the text that conveys what the setting and play might be like. I like finding the version that resonates with me and my specific friends.
However, lots of people like premade content. Lots of people like the more gimmicky (in my mind) seeming game bits, either as a fun thing ie to offer an alternative to other content, or things like board games that permanently change as you play.
I would guess Gloomhaven isn't for me, but is worthwhile for many folks.

So how is anyones play going? Whats seems great, what seemed really different that worked, or didn't?

RE: Balancing wizards and warriors
@carma You could also say "play an Aes Sedai like they are shown in the book, or play something else".
The idea of basing something on an IP usually is to emulate and expand on the stories and feel as presented. Or you specifically call out a "what if X was different" as part o the setup.
"What if the heroes were rules lawyering embodiments of choas"
Like if I wanted to do Force users based less on whats in the Star Wars cannon and more about emotional stability, self control, and self image I'd want to be clear it was going to be Star Wars like, but with different emphasis on what guides a Force Users behavior.

@insomniac7809 said in Balancing wizards and warriors:
When the power levels are all narrative ... "roll Forceful to Overcome Obstacle" or whatever, everyone has the same... I dunno... "meta-narrative(?)" involvement in the outcome, even if in the narrative Thor is slugging it out with the whole CGI army while Natasha is running the goober to the skybeam to shut it down or whatever. These (FATE Accelerated?) ideas actually sounds pretty good.
I do think one reason magical powers and such get player attention is that they let you imagine more fantastical thoughts, feelings and drives for your PC, and describe more fantastical events, while having all the capacities of most other character types. It has a higher sense of significance.

RE: Books...Books...Books....
@derp nah the style doesn't bother me. I've already read it. I llike the format, Dangerous Liasons is also enjoyable.
I've been enjoying looking closer at the character or nature of the heroes, and noting the emotional support that critical to morale and sense of value to the risks taken.
I just can't read for long, which is sad given I have nothing else to do.

Same issue, but more about mental energy.
Dracula sits at 65%. I started to re-read it along with my spouse so we could talk about it, and compare it to the various Dracula and vampire movies we've been watching because October was approach, October is now.
