RE: Strife in the Age of Steam
Perhaps some sort of voluntary +bbposts about interest and available times, and perhaps an email to reach them if the player base goes above some number?
People really need to learn to coordinate days and times for this hobby, unless they are fine with whatever is the most popular as their only choices.

RE: Dragon Age: Dread Wolf's Rise
It's spending the established story capital on something specific to the player. If its for the majority of players then they are enjoying an alternate version. Maybe. Sometimes whatever the alternate is, that alternate is the actual goal, and the canon being used is just another bit of variety to keep it from going stale.
EG if I imagine what it would be like to have Superman land in Russia and grow up there, enforcing and leading its ideals (see Red Son) that is an alternate universe exploration. If I then postulate World of Darkness all in Russia, make my Transformers all about Leninist communism, place my Sense and Sensibilities in the last days of the Czar, play Greatest Generation as the Russian military, and propose Star Trek be based on over 1960s Soviet propaganda I may have another goal.
So when I arrive and start making your Pern game into a Russian culture or communist theme, it may not be welcomed as an honest desire to explore this WITH PERN. It is your fetish you cant avoid.

I can begin on a topic, descend into a subtopic eight times, and pull back out of it in order to provide context for my final result, comment etc.

RE: The Cat Thread
Another consideration is my wife can't say no to a cat sitting on her, then bam, she's asleep. When she has homework to do.

RE: The Cat Thread
I played a video of kittens mewling once, and he came in and jumps up and searched around the speakers for the kittens. Seems like a good sign.

RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
II see it as more a player habit as you pointed out, though I could see some games poising the players mind towards focusing on configuration of powers with many options.

RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
You have no soul.
I blame all the Tzimisce sauce of your people.
So my point is that if you just want to roll dice, select rule options, then make a random encounter generator for each arena of +capability. If you are aiming to please that contingent, don't cloak it in story.
In the end, having a person arbitrate and react to what you do is wasted if all you wanted was a video game session.

RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
So which is it young feller, is it something you can't fix, or something you can work on? Cuzzing you see, iffin I work on it, I aim ta fix it, and if I can't fix it, I ain gonna work on it.
Okay then.
Sorry, I do love Raising Arizona.

RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
@Arkandel You might be missing my point, or just making your own. I agree, and said so, that scenes where you get to demonstrate any details about your character are good, and to me necessary.
My statement was about the idea that players are looking to use the stats, not involve their characters story in the events, ever. Ever. It does not occur to them. They are not building characters for it. They may not even want to do it.
Whatever the cause, when it is all you see, it makes their involvement very shallow seeming to be around. And so the stories themselves become shallow, remote, rote.

RE: The Cat Thread
@Ganymede That is what I am trying to suss out. There are times, usually a day or two, but sometimes up to three weeks where my wife and I are gone. He gets along with his caretakers pretty well, but we often wonder if he would be happier with a little company. I am certain if he had a best friend that would be great, but even just another living being might be a comfort for him.
