    • RE: [NOW OPEN] Titanic Two-Tone Tales: Noir (Superhero Mush)

@lithium You've got to be kidding me, who did that? I'll have a chat with them because seriously that's not the kind of behavior we need on the game. The systems they'd be rules lawyering are supposed to be completely optional anyway I specifically don't go in depth on a lot of stuff the books does because it's supposed to be left up to player interpretation.

If you don't want to say here can you tell me in pm's who it was? I need to quell that behavior right here and now, because it won't be tolerated.

The system being tricky is something I'm trying to work on and simplify wherever I can but I never should have told anyone the game was based off of wild talents essential because it's already fostered a toxic attitude from some people where they obsess over the rules in the book we're loosely based off of and completely ignore the rules of the game we're actually playing.

I'm stripping out some rules wherever I can to streamline, and cut that behavior down, but it's so frustrating when people pull that. It makes me tempted to rip out the roll command all together strip away most the system and just have the CG exclusively for what I intended it to be there for initially: To keep people roughly on the same power level and get them to focus their character a bit more tightly.

Oy. It's spring, the weather is hot as hell and they've decided at work we need to start wearing stab vests. They also decided we have to pay a deposit on them out of our paycheck of 850 dollars. These things are hot and heavy as hell. The only bright side is I looked them up and they're level 2 on stab and slashing as well as ballistic. So at least we can feel a bit safer, but DAMN if I'm not sweating like a pig.

@bad-at-lurking Yeah I'm already planning on doing that even if I stick with Wild Talents. I mean heck I just started building a bunch of the usual suspects for application to make sure if people are interested they can just slap a background on them and go. This thread was more polling to see if people thought there was a simpler system to use.

So, things have slowed down to a bit of a crawl here on the server, and I know it's a long shot but I'd really like to recruit on board some storytellers to try and get things moving again. I've been trying to run things myself but I think with some help I can really get this thing off the ground. If you're willing to help out and want to help shape the world we do still have a few players. Things have just sadly slown down on the player front.

I'm still always willing to run scenes and offer to every day. My active hours are 4pm-5am est wednesday through sunday. Can't really guarintee much activity on monday or Tuesdays but other then that I'm almost always free to run something for someone.

I'm also here shortly going to be building some pregenerated characters so that players can skip all the point building side of character generation and get right to RP if they want.

If you guys just aren't apping because you don't really want to go through the whole chargen process and just want to focus on your Background and the like I'm more then willing to build characters for people.

    • RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))

Alright so I've been trying to get things done more or less solo and at the moment what I need to launch is as follows:

I need to figure out a way to fix the +time code to reflect the proper IC date. The code's a bit complicated and I don't entirely understand how it works.

Need to temporarily disable fast travel since to start we're just going to have one planet and two ships so we can keep the game nice and in focus. Then I just need to figure out how to properly apply the desc's I have written up.

Need to go through and redesc a fair wack of items to remove the references to incidents post the Old Republic Era. I feel this will allow us to have item and armor variety without disabling half the DB to remove the anachronistic gubbins.

Figure out how the starting level code works on this and: Remove level 1 as an option, then make it so people can either start at Level 4 or if they're applying a 'leadership role' level 11

edit the news and help files to reflect the fact it's a kotor game.

and set up the proper factions we're going to use.

Soon as I get that done we're pretty much golden to launch. If anyone can help me with some of that it'd be greatly appreciated.

Now optional things that I'd like done but will put on hold so we can get a timely launch:

I'd like to figure out how to change what requires flags to learn, and fix up Force Lightning to make it much more common as it is in the games.

Strip out a fair wack of the house ruleing that came with the DB as some of it kind of breaks the system a bit.

Re-do the history files to reflect the different setting.

That's all that I really need to do before we're ready to launch.

    • RE: Best Superhero System for a Mush?

@zombiegenesis Wait you ran that? If that's the one I'm thinking of I played The Comedian there. Love that system. I mean heck it wouldn't actually be that bad to switch over to from my current system.

@Thenomain Well I mean also the cost ratios get pretty high with the different dice. At the moment my personal game is using a modified Wild Talents with a 250 point build. Yeah it makes some things much harder to build but I like the 'Watchmen feel' that it gives the game. Just wish I was better at actually getting it to work in a way the every man can understand more quickly and easily.

I know I didn't make it clear, but I mostly started this for ideas on alternatives for my own games system while not constraining it to JUST that. So it can still go its own route and all and potentially still be a conversation in general of comparing merits of superhero systems.

    • RE: Best Superhero System for a Mush?

@zombiegenesis Oh man DC Heroes. I love that system so damn much. If I knew a proper way to automate more of it I'd use that system in a heartbeat. Years back I managed to buy a collection fo the rulebooks at auction along with a bunch of custom cards for it.

Love that system so much but if memories serves it used a strange 'success wheel' that was a bit difficult to wrap the noggin round, and even the game itself recommended against creating new heroes.

    • RE: Best Superhero System for a Mush?

Yeah fate really doesn't work well for superhero mushes man. It's honestly just not that great a system overall when it comes to mushes. I mean close knit group of friends in a tabletop sure, but on a mush it's WAY too abuseable to the point of being about as useful as no system at all.

M&M is more complicated (In my opinion) then Wild Talents, at the very least on the same level of complicated, which wouldn't really get me anywhere fast. This is the problem with figuring out a good system to rein in players without having things be way too complicated.

    • Best Superhero System for a Mush?

This is a question I should have honestly asked a long time ago but I figure there's no real harm asking it now.

What do you guys think in your opinion is the 'best' system for a superhero mush? In this specific case allow me to give the definition of 'best' I'm looking for.

A system with concrete rules to balance out powers so it's not nearly as much a free for all where Superman, or batman will always be the best at everything forever. A system that manages this while not being so complex as to require months or years to learn, yet not as simplistic as Fate.

Something that does all this while still capturing the feel of superheroes.

      Does this system even exist?

If not what comes the closest?

Is it some big name system everyone's heard of or something a bit more obscure?

I sure as hell know I don't have the answer, that's why I'm asking you guys.

    • RE: In development: pure OC superhero game

Not sure how much it helps but depending I could be convinced to loan you what I've already got for mine. No doubt you'd be best off stripping out our systems specific for wild talents and switching over to the bog standard system of Advantages Abilities Powers and flaws, since Wild Talent is NOT for everyone, but hey depending on how the rest of staff feels it would at least be a setup that could get you started. I'd love to play on an OC only 1920-40's game. Love me some mobsters.

I would love a nice new 20th WoD game to play, but sadly I can't help you much on the finding one front. All the ones I knew have been dead for a while now.

If anyone can recommend a good Noir setting, by the by, you can have a kidney of your choice.

I mean not sure if it's what you're looking for but my alt history 1920's superhero game is trying to be Noir at the very least. Might not be what you're looking for but I'd be remiss not to recommend it at least in passing.

      • Star Wars that isn't spread across the galaxy

That's actually, something I'm working slowly but surely on. Not making much in the way of headway so far but getting towards a launch proper at least.

@theonceler said in What Is Missing For You?:

A Star Wars game set primarily on one planet/system in the Outer Rim so the game mostly plays out as the Old West, but with blasters and lightsabers.

That's not a bad idea in the slightest.

@blondebot We were hoping to launch around the middle of april or start of may. Due to massive setbacks we're going to be now shooting for middle of may or the start of June. Sadly these things tend to happen when you're working on a project without code experience and have to rely on peoples often filled timetables. Luckily there's not a super massive amount of work that needs done and we can get that out of the way fairly quickly so long as I can focus on it, and figure out all the commands I need to get things shifted round.

Fresh update: We had some issues with the god bit that caused progress to grind to a halt for the last about two weeks. We've more or less got it solved so we should be able to get right back on track.

@magee101 Mostly it's focused on trying to survive and thrive in a hostile world that's changing around the players. There's a focus on investigation and running classic golden age style storylines just with a noir twist.
