I'd play hell out of this. (Also, if you haven't read Georgette Heyer's Regency romances, they're utterly brilliant for this concept. Faro's Daughter in particular deals with a society gaming hell.)

RE: Book suggestions
@Arkandel Sure! It starts off looking like it's going to be a Beauty and the Beast knock-off, but one where the Wood is more of an antagonist than anyone else. Except the main character's faults turn into her strengths and she never becomes a "typical" heroine. She doesn't magically become coordinated or beautiful or able to do anything in a typical fashion. It also incorporates some Russian myths and quite a lot of twists and turns in the plot.
That one was so good that I'm about to start "Spinning Silver", which is a take-off on Rumplestiltskin. And I think I have some of her Temeraire Chronicles, which I'm given to understand is the Napoleonic Wars with dragons, but I haven't started those yet.

RE: What Would it Take to Repair the Community?
@TNP Then they can rename their board "WORA" and no one's going to give a damn. Not sure why they didn't, to be honest. I'd be all for it, myself. Take back the original name rather than trying to take a new one, you'll get all the people who liked that kind of thing.

RE: Online friends
I have numerous friends that I've never met in person. And all but two of my RL friends that I'm still close to, I met online first. And a lot of my online friends, I've met in person maybe once or twice, but that doesn't make them any less friends.

RE: Recipes!
I'm mostly passing this on because I've tried it and it's freaking heaven.

It's a pineapple-coconut cake made with rice flour. Freaking heaven.

RE: What Would it Take to Repair the Community?
@Selira @Mietze Well, if they'd made the choice to behave here, they wouldn't be there, now, would they? I mean, seriously, for a bunch of people committed to protecting mental health, the banned people didn't give much thought to who they were harming when they continued to throw their temper tantrums and then got banned for it.
So, they made another board where they could do what they want and be as mean as they wanted and STILL ended up with rules like here, but they're not enforced.
You can say what you want but your board is public and anyone can read for themselves. Just like the boards here are public.
However, again, feel free to respond, I'm pretty done with this idiotic argument.

RE: Attachment to old-school MU* clients
@clarity Did you know that Chrome and Firefox both have Highlight extensions that can be set up for just one website?

RE: Ruiz
@hobos
Just as a note:
conjecture: an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information.
accusation: a charge or claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong.The last game of Cobalt's that I know I played on for certain was Darkwater and so long ago that it was several computers ago, I have no receipts. Any opinion I advance about Cobalt would have no evidence, just personal anecdotes. Anything I said would have to be conjecture, I have no logs. So I've kept my mouth shut because no logs = no proof.
But let's be fair, just that pre-banning of @Ganymede for...what? is enough to make me wonder what other bad decisions are being made. And Macha's logs showed that a) she was being slut-shamed and b) it was a consensual log that she was being shamed for and is still being shamed for.
Pretty sure that the bad decisions aren't the ones being made here.

RE: GMs and Players
@krmbm said in GMs and Players:
I would assume "show me the logs" staff philosophy wouldn't require a pre-banned list, since that would assume guilt without evidence.
Well, that's an assumption. Assumptions preclude actual communication, and are frequently wrong. So, it's a question you'd want to ask.

RE: RL things I love
I got one called "Sugared Birch" from Target that smells utterly divine. I also love any that are orange/cinnamon/clove.

RE: Ruiz
@hobos @Hella
I see what you guys are saying. However, my take on it is this: @Derp was directly addressing Cobalt when he said what he said. It was a reminder.I'm not asking what happened, because for me, what's telling is this: Cobalt came on, saw people were asking questions that dared to question her integrity, flailed around, yelled "how dare you!" and pre-banned four of us from any future games. And missed the point that she pulled something that entirely lacked integrity and didn't apologize for it.
Whatever happened in the past? Don't know, don't care. What's going on NOW is that Macha got raked over the coals based on HER past reputation from a bunch of people who don't like her and reportedly, is continuing to be targeted by said people, in spite of the fact that the person she was RPing with is a known bad actor and was pulling some shady shit. And somehow, she's still the bad guy?
And you guys are worried about Cobalt? Y'all don't need to worry about her, clearly she's got a teflon reputation at this point because no one is pointing out that the banning someone over a consensual scene and then closing of that game is pretty PHB territory. This isn't even me pointing out past misjudgements on her part, I can't be arsed to remember them. This is me looking at what's going on NOW and thinking it's pretty shitty.

@icanbeyourmuse I can honestly say that I literally have NO idea where you got that from. I'm not sure you're reading what I'm typing.

RE: The Board Game Thread
Pandemic is a favorite of mine, as is Betrayal at the House on the Hill, that game is INSANELY fun and I think in several years of playing it, we've only come up on a repeat of the Bad Guy once. King of Tokyo is mindless fun, and if you don't mind sort of card games, then Bears vs. Babies is great. I'm looking forward to Unstable Unicorns, too.

@Ganymede
@Cupcake and @Auspice were having actual conversations about who they thought the various people were, on MSB. How'd you miss it? -
RE: Something Completely Different
@rightmeow Thank you, I appreciate that.
@Selira From the level of empathy and understanding that you regularly display, I offer your words back to you: maybe you should re-read what you post and go off and think about what your own behavior. Calling people assholes instead of addressing their behavior isn't empathetic or understanding. Just expedient.
