    • RE: Good TV

      I binged it. I was happy. It wasn't perfect, because it couldn't be, but it was good, and that's enough.

      I think Gaiman has grown up a bit, become a bit more Pratchetty, a bit less angsty. There are some happy endings that didn't happen in the book, and I liked it. I also like how a joke about Queen being absolutely inescapable in the late 80s turned into an awesome classic rock soundtrack.

      Side note: I never realized Good Omens was published the year I was born.

      Hurricane Isaac had me grilling the meat in my powerless freezer in my backyard in 109 degree New Orleans weather while standing on a ladder because my house and yard were fucking flooded.

      Wait. Were you in LaPlace? I don't remember NOLA getting that much water.

      Also I feel like a lot of people are assuming posters on the Hog Pit thread who were defending this concept are necessarily going to be taking part in it. I, personally, have no intention to do so, so if you're frightened of my insufferable and abusive self leading to the destruction of various MUSHes, you shouldn't be.

      Mostly because I'm, y'know, neither important nor influential. But just in case.

      "That is how an RBMK reactor explodes."

      If anyone knows of television as good as or better than Chernobyl, I want to hear about it right now.

      Also, I'm laughing in advance at Game of Thrones getting absolutely swept at the Emmys by a five part series in which the main villains are a bunch of smouldering graphite and Soviet governance.

      @Testament

      It looks otherworldly and dangerous in ways that are hard to describe without falling back on religion. It's Lot's wife turning back to see the destruction and turning into a pillar of salt, or the burning bush, or the curtain of the Temple being torn in two. All the ancient mysteries and primal fear of something greater than ourselves made manifest in a burning reactor core.

      Maybe this could get forked to another thread? It’s WAY off topic.

      Seriously, I had to wade through pages upon pages of backscroll to see if Gray Harbor was banning trans people (they aren't to my knowledge!).

      Yeah, I feel guilty for having my post lead to this. I owe an apology to @bear_necessities . Sorry.

      For the record, I just apped a nonbinary character on Gray Harbor, got accepted without issue, and am having a great first scene. I really like this game so far!

      UPDATE: IT'S BEEN SEVEN HOURS AND THE SCENE IS STILL GOING ON AAAAAAA

      1-800-273-8255. That's the national lifeline. The director says that only around a third of callers are considering self harm. All the others are looking for emotional support or information on nearby resources. If you're feeling hopeless or like things are falling apart, give them a call.

      @Ghost

      I do like those things, but what I really like are things like V:tDA's Road of Heaven and VtM's Sharia el-Sama--the religious based paths that are really heavy on morality.

      Looking other Paths up, the Path of Entelechy looks pretty interesting.

      I, however, being an enlightened Frankensteinlet, have essentially no hormonal cycles whatsoever. What's that you say? That probably isn't healthy? Well I'll have you know that no studies whatsoever have been done on the long-term dangers of my medication regime, so it's obviously safe!

      Salubri: Humanists to a fault, the altruistic Salubri find themselves drawn to wherever the Crusades may take them, where they can tend to the needy, the sick, and the infirm, as much as trying to relieve the suffering of the victims’ family. Auspex, Celerity, Majesty, Vigor. (V20, p. 408.)

      aaaaaaaaa

      AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

      I have wanted to play a Salubri ever since I learned about them but you never can because in modern settings they've either been Tremere'd or gone antitribu, which doesn't appeal to me at all.

      Or Wu Zao, I guess, but I don't know a lot about them.

      @Ganymede I see you are a fellow person of culture by the .gifs that you post.

      Actual real world peeve: I hate, so much, that I have to charge people so much to help them out. My firm is reaching a totally untapped market statewide because all other private attorneys charge insane amounts of money, but even with us making very modest incomes (read: less than the public defenders) we're only able to help so many people pro bono.

      I know it's irrational to feel guilty about this when it's the fault of the system, but seeing someone who really does have a shot at freedom and not being able to help him because of money? It's obscene on a really fundamental level for me, and I feel like I'm complicit with the system every time it happens.

      If we're talking, like, magical timeline duplicates... now, that's a question that gets into the teleporter paradox. If I go into a machine, Scotty vaporizes me, and then I come back together on the other side, am I still me? If yes, what if he saves the data and pops out another of me? If no, that implies either I stop existing when my component atoms are replaced--which happens every few years--or when my consciousness stops functioning--which implies I did die during my appendectomy (or, rather, he died, I started existing when the anaesthesia wore off.) Do "I", in a discrete sense, actually exist, or am I just a collection of processes that shuffle around in the same general vicinity for a few decades, and if so, isn't a second identical bundle of processes just "more" of me?

      Did you seriously just take a smut thread and turn it into a discourse on the problem of personal identity?

      Fucking hell. Go read some Parfit and get out of here, nerd.

      If you can answer whether duplicate sex is masturbation or incest without defining the self, then go ahead.

      Maybe considering the ethical and philosophical implications of weird sex scenarios is my fetish. Ever think of that?
