I sure love passive-aggressively doing the "looping Bob back in!' thing after they drop him from the first email I looped him in on.

    • Outside the Box GMing

I'm curious what cool and fun ideas a bit outside the norm people have tried out in their plots. @saosmash is currently planning something akin to a dungeon run for TLF with maps and finding loot and stuff, which I'm excited for because it's something we've never done. (TLF also lends itself to lots of different kinds of plots, because we're trekking around space and going to different colonies and generally open to fun shit.)

@Tez has also done this cool thing on two big epic plot climax scenes now. Since she had so many people to basically fit into a climax scene, she tried out putting characters in pairs and giving each pair three rounds of their very own and focused entirely on that pair for those rounds. It gave everyone a period of spotlight and let there be a clear build where every character had a part in the eventual victory. The idea was to try to go for a sort of cinematic feel, like in big movies where you see each of the characters basically get to Do Their Thing to defeat the Big Bad. Obviously it's not something for every GMed scene, but I found it really cool to try stuff a different way and see how it could work (as a player in both the scenes she tried it on).

So I'm curious what cool and different things people have tried out in their GMing (or I guess even just in their RPing!) that has turned out well (or I guess not well, if you wanna share). I'm a big fan of trying new things in general instead of always sticking to methods we know.

What's funny is he considers MUDs video games but not MUSHes.

I can actually kind of understand that idea. MUDs have a level of automation and interacting with the environment that MUSHes don't. I might consider a MUD a video came where I wouldn't a MUSH/MUX/MOO.

MMOS are totally video games, though, your friend is dumb. That is hardly a reason to ghost on a friend, though.

I am unconvinced that you can't get what you're describing with Google Drive and a project manager like Asana, both of which you can use for free.

Asshole agent, if you're going to suddenly demand we get your fancy client's concert live on our website TODAY!!! after being an asshole through negotiations for months, it'd sure be helpful if you would respond to things for approval in a timely manner so that we could, you know, do the thing you're demanding has to happen or your fancy client WALKS!!! in what I assume would be a dramatic fashion.

Also, don't write me bitchy emails when I politely ask you to send a higher-res version of the photo you want to use. No, you most definitely did not use a 960x960 pixel image on posters or a billboard. Don't worry, though! I know how to use reverse GIS to find a size -- closer to what we actually need. It's cool, it's not like you should have this on hand for your own client.

My roommate was on disability for a while after their fibro diagnosis, and their birth mom -- who is kind of a mess and has historically been super awful and unreliable -- offered to pay three months of my roomie's rent to help them out. We just found out that the rent was never paid (and she never told my roommate)and our landlord is suddenly like, hey you owe us two and a half grand. My roommate never asked me to help pay it when they sat me down to tell me what had happened, or even implied anything, but they don't have emergency resources/family with money to help with things like this, and I do and also have savings, so I'm just -- paying it. I'll probably never see the full amount again, but it's still better than my roommate -- who is a kind person even if they are not as responsible as they should be -- taking out some awful predatory payday loan or something. (Someone stole their identity years ago and did a number on their credit, too.)

This on top of a whole mess of work stress and family death anniversary and I literally just broke down last night talking to them about this. I'm not even angry, I'm just exhausted.

Upvoting not because of the situation (I am so sorry, man) but because you're a really, really, really good person. Thank you for doing this for your roomie. As someone who has been utterly hammered a number of times through my own stupidity combined with some fairly unfortunate events...thank you. It's people like you that make the world a livable place.

That's very kind of you to say. I feel pretty conscious of the fact that I've definitely been afforded some very distinct advantages in my life. When I got into my own money-related issue last year due to a combination of issues -- the kind of thing where other parties were being incompetent but I should have triple-checked -- I was able to call my family for help. I know there are a lot of people who don't have options like that when they get in trouble (including my roommate). I'm not saying that this was a totally easy sum of money that I won't think about, but I can afford to do it.

@surreality It's certainly true that it's better to know up-front than have it be one of those sorts of situations where there's weird, insidious judging on the game for playing certain kinds of characters.

Like, I absolutely know that straight female fetishization of male queerness is a thing, but do you realize that there are also queer female players wanting to play queer female characters? Like. Holy shit. Lesbians are a thing.

Much less heavy and not so much RL Anger as RL Nerves, but I work admin-side in the performing arts and am getting back on stage for a song for the first time in years (staff show for the cabaret space I work on, among other things) and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah yeah I'm pretty nervous. I never got stage fright when I was actually acting regularly, but getting up as yourself without a script is a whole nother can of worms.
