Sign me the eff up for this. Seriously, it's a fantastic idea and take on both L&L and Supers.

I KOTOR 2 that wasn't a hot garbage fire in the second half of the game because it wasn't finished and just pushed out the door.
I love Obsidian but goddamn they cannot catch a break when being given time tables.
Also, there's never going to be a Jade Empire 2 or remaster and I will forever hold that against BioWare.
No, hold it against EA because they bought BioWare before Jade Empire 2 could go into production.
Original is still available on the X-Box Store. So it's going to be a legacy game.

RE: Fractured Cosmos or Unified World?
@chibichibi By 'various splats', are you talking about different' 'spheres' (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling) being joined together, or different universes (Marvel/DC, Star Wars/Star Trek, etc.) being joined?

RE: Project Gridlock (Temp Name) Matrix style mush
@mr-johnson Okay, that makes more sense. I read that as The Matrix as in 'the WoD grid is a direct neural interface VR simulation', rather than 'the RL grid is literally the outside world of The Matrix.
Carry on

RE: Project Gridlock (Temp Name) Matrix style mush
@mr-johnson Okay. I'm not trying to be negative or a nay-sayer or 'This is never going to work'. I just want to bring up a point that I feel you need to be really solid on and have solid reasoning behind it. But, in all seriousness...why have the second 'RL' grid?
What's the hook for that? What is the allure? Why should I spend my mundane RL time on a virtual mundane RL grid?
Is there a minimum amount of time players will need to spend 'RL' to be able to afford to access the WoD grid (like having to go to work to pay the net and game subscription bills)? Are there mechanical penalties for staying jacked in 24/7 to the game? Will there be periodic server outages and patches that make the WoD game unavailable at times?
Honestly. Think about this.
What is the reason or the attraction to get the players invested in participating in a virtaul 'RL' grid? Because if the choice is between spending my time in the game as Greg the CPA (not my real name or occupation) or Eaon Grimtooth the dai-klaive wielding Fianna Ahroun that slices through leeches and Black Spiral Dancers in the name of Gaia....I know who I'm choosing to spend time in this game as.
Again, not trying to knock down the concept. From how you've described things, I don't see any reason for me to be invested, as a player, in this secondary grid you're working on. To paraphrase Morty...'That sounds like
slaveryan OOC Room with extra steps...' -
New TTRPG setting: steampunk alt WW!
So, apparently West End Games has re-formed and is putting out a D6 game based on the Image Comic series 'Carbon Grey'.
Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magneticpressplay/carbon-grey-the-role-playing-game
Quckstart rules: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/367220/Carbon-Grey-RPG--Quickstart-Guide
Sort of feels like what Savage Skies is doing. But, Yay for the return of D6!

RE: Player Omsbudsman?
Fair enough, guys. Everyone brought valid points to this; points I either hadn't thought of or considered enough.
Ideally, yes, Staff on a game need to foster player trust. But we all know at least one game where the majority of staff are cool, but still green, and someone weaseled their way into a positoin of power that they can abuse.
-
Player Omsbudsman?
So. An idea that I've been tossing around the recesses of my mind for a while now is the concept of an ombudsman position on a game. Basically Staff/Royalty whose sole function is to be an advocate for the players of the game. Someone who is not regular Staff that players can bring concerns to without fear of having said concerns either handwaved away or met with claims of the player being uncooperative, hostile, misrepresenting the facts, or any of the multiple ways Staff can sabotage their own games. This isn't a concept for complete lost cause games, but more for those games that honestly try to do things right, but might have bad instincts when it comes to Staffing and some control freaks are given power they really shouldn't have.
Thoughts?

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
Something I've been pondering for a while now...
GI Joe, but not quite how you're probably thinking.
If you add in the Cobra-La elements of the lore, as goofy as it may have been, you can get something entirely different. Suddenly, the Joes aren't fighting against just a high-tech terrorist organization anymore. COBRA is being backed not just with high-tech weapons, but being controlled by an ancient, hidden civilization with disturbing biotechnology. It's just a small step further to turn COBRA into an army completely unaware that it's preparing the way for evil, eldritch beings.
So, GI Joe by way of Delta Green/Cthulhu Mythos.
Jut thought I'd toss this out to the general MSB population for them to use as an theme.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@greenflashlight Between this and the discussion about Masks, there might be enough motivation for someone to do a PBtA system code.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
Hmmmmm.......what have we here?
For folks looking for a system for TLA/LoK...
https://magpiegames.com/avatarrpg/
And the Kickstarter begins August 3rd.
But, I mean, it's not like there's any real interest in an Avatar MU, right?
-
RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@arkandel You've got the gist of the issue. Same thing with Batman & Superman. Imagine the reaction when you tell Superman 'Hey, mind not wiping the field clear of bad guys before I get a chance to do something?' Part of the responsibility of playing a powerful character in a collaborative medium is making a conscious effort to share the spotlight.
-
RE: 7th Sea?
@greenflashlight Wasn't really putting it up for a vote. Just explaining my reasons why I'm not big on 2e. The only real discussion is to go with the Classic 1e setting & mechanics or try to convert the Sarmation Commonwealth, the summoning magic, and Hexenwassen magic/society into the Classic setting and 1e mechanics.

RE: 7th Sea?
@zombiegenesis said in 7th Sea?:
@runescryer I think it could be cool. If you don't mind my asking, why 1st edition as opposed to 2nd Edition?
I'm generally okay with 2nd Editions mechanics. I'm honestly 50/50 on just using 1e or incorporating the 2e rules into the 1e setting. It's just my opinion that 2e is very easy to go Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese with C-Gen to make unstopabble killing machines. Also, I'm really not a fan they way they nerfed Glamour to only 30 practitioners IN TOTAL at any one time. And ditched Dracheneisen for Hexxenweissen. I do like Hexxenweissen, but think it would make a better Secret Society special, since there's dark, spooky things all over Thea and restricting it to Eisen only sort of negates the darker fairy tales of England, France, Italy, Russia, and Iceland/Norway.
I also like the Sarmation Commonwealth and the Demon summoning magic (can't remember offhand), but again, against the balance of original Thea, I'd rather convert those and fit them in than go with a straight 2e game. I guess call is 7th Sea Edition 1.5

7th Sea?
Okay, getting my digital RPG library back in order, I'm wondering if there's interest in building a 7th Sea MU, using the original rules and the extra lore from Swashbuckling Adventures? I'm thinking of starting small and gradually growing; starting with a 'sea grid' and a central 'refuge' for a piracy & exploration game, gradually adding in grids or various nations & their courts for L&L and intrigue play.
Any interest?

@de-villefort said in MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't):
@squirreltalk
It's always an issue on any game with any kind of combat system. You always end up with people so powerful they can singlehandedly stop any plot they want ICly so people just don't try things because they know it will get them killed. That's the reason the bad guys are always stronger, more prepared, or more well organized than the good guys in the movies. When the good guys always win people just settle for boring.
Why do you think people hate Superman but like Batman?
Superman makes everything boring.having played many, many Kryptonians in my MU career, I can say this is more of Player Problem than a Character problem. Overpowered character can and do work in a supers game. The key is to not just hand them out in a 'first come, first serve' manner. You need the right kind of player that knows when to hold back and give the other players the spotlight. Someone who is happy to deal with a 'distraction' while letting the other players/characters shine from time to time. Just because you ar the most powerful character doesn't mean you have to be the star of the scene every time.

@zombiegenesis said in OC Superhero Discussion:
@squirreltalk Right now I'm just looking at code. There are aspects of M&M 3E that I'm wondering are worth the trouble to try and code up properly(arrays and some other stuff).
I mean...If this is just going to be a freeform game, which is fine, I don't think coding Arrays fully/properly is a big thing. Just have the player list alternate powers for the slot and don't sweat the points. Unless, they're trying to claim like 20 alternate powers...
-
RE: OC Superhero Discussion
@zombiegenesis I'd be down for this as well. I' say M&M would be the better system if we're just using a system for power modeling.

RE: OC Superhero Discussion
I think that when you talk about 'System Crunch' in Champions and M&M, you need to separate it into 2 categories: Mechanics and Chargen. For Chargen, yes; both Champions and M&M are heavy on the crunch. But the actual mechanics of both games is easier than D&D.
Champions: Roll 3d6 to see if you succeed in a task, rolling under a target number. For Skills, the target number is the skill level, modified. For combat, The Target number is 11, modified by the attacker's Offense and the Target's Defense. If an attack or power succeeds, roll Damage or Effect indicated by power.
M&M: Roll 1d20, add in the Skill or Attack bonus, target number is 11 plus Defense bonus. If an Attack or Power succeeds, target rolls 1d20 + Resistance, trying to beat a target number of 15 + Power
That's literally all it is for both systems, Aside from Champions Normal v Killing damage system. The pages and pages of system that everyone dreads are 90% 'How To Code'
As for the crunch of Character Generation, it's true that there's not much to get around that. However, I know there's a free Excel/Google Spreadsheet character generator for M&M 3e, editable and with every power filled in, created back when the system came out as DC Adventures. I'm working at tracking down a copy; I'm 90% sure I still have it on my main system. I'm also 90% sure you can store it and share it on Google Drive. I'll update later.
EDIT: Found it on my Drive.
