      @roz @Juniper

I tend to do the 'accept but don't send a response' so that I show up on the invite as accepted, and it's all pretty and bold on my calendar, but no one gets an email.

I told my principal I learned this thing today and she laughed at me.

BUT FROM NOW ON THIS IS HOW ALL INVITES WILL BE MADE GDI.

This is super true in cities, though less in rural areas. I will forever be amazed my husband saw no reason to learn to drive before he went to college and realized he couldn't do anything without a car there. Whereas we sat on the exact day of my 14.5 when it was legal for me to get my learners permit, and I took my real test only days after I turned 16. My parents weren't about to deal with the nonsense of driving me the 20+ minutes it took to go anywhere, plus I could now be delegated the responsibility part time of seeing my two younger sisters were transported to where they needed to be.

Chrome 'profiles'. I don't plug in my computer a lot these days because I do most things from my phone. So when I need a computer at home it's 10000000 times easier just to sit at my husband's. I don't want to log him out of all the stuff though, so the fact that I can have a profile on his computer it ~wonderful~.

In my household my husband does 90% of the cooking. Not because I CAN'T cook, but because of several reasons.

On the nights I do cook (like today, when there are fucking wildfire evaccuations in DECEMBER and husband must cover them...) I'm reminded of one of the major reasons why I was happy to give up the chore. Mostly because I cannot have the kitchen dirty before I cook, nor leave it dirty after I cook. So on top of the actual prep, here's an easy 20-30 minutes before and after cooking.

DOES ANY ONE ELSE DO THIS?!

This is my Calypso every morning. Today I woke up before she decided to get up and I got to kiss her sleepy head awake in adorable revenge.

I think you meant to tag me!

I honestly was worried about it (but wanted to get her out of her previous job and she's high anxiety and might not have made the jump without the cushion of me being able to say I'd put in a good word for her) but it has been FANTASTIC. We may differ on the little things, but we agree on the big ones. (Kids first, it's important to let kids fail safely for them to learn, etc). It's a lot of fun to have someone I 100% trust to be able to go "wtf was this shit" to. (I do trust my other coworkers, but we're teachers!) Also it's fun to be all "omg remember this random thing that literally only makes sense because we have a similar point of reference" to babble to.

I don't think I could do it with all my siblings, but so far so good with this one!

    • RE: Girl Scout Cookies

@tinuviel I had a Canadian friend I'd RP with a lot a few years back. I learned she had never had thin mints before, so I sent her a box! She sent me maple cookies back. It was a good exchange.

Until a YEAR LATER she mentioned off hand, "Oh, I just found another sleeve of those cookies in my freezer!"

I WAS OFFENDED. (Because who doesn't eat all the thin mints within a day?!)

That isn't the reality that our kids are living with. It seems real simple to us as adults, but kids are shaped strongly by what their parents say and do. To them it IS a matter of opinion, not unlike religion issue we talked above.

I'm not going to sit and tell a kid that their parents are wrong and that they shouldn't believe them.

First world upper middle class thing:

I cannot wait for our carpets to be replaced with vinyl plank. (As soon as Saturday or as late as the global supply chain issues.) I bought a new pet hair removal thingie on a whim and I swiped it across an arms length section of carpet I HAD JUST VACUUMED YESTERDAY. The amount of hair it picked up made me want to throw up.

Once these new floors are in the hair won't be able to camouflage in the carpet any more. It will be at the mercy of my swiffer and vacuum. I WILL BE THE MASTER OF HAIR IN MY HOME.

Our floors are (mostly, order error = job on pause till more parts in) in and it looks AMAZING.

Now I want to rip up the floors downstairs and replace them so everything matches!

TBH, I'm not even mentioning the immunocompromised part. Just a blanket, "So far kids are safe."

It isn't true. I know it isn't true. But I know my kids. If I say "these kids but not these kids" there are going to be problems.

I don't know how else to help them feel safe. 😕

I'm going to throw my hat into the bucket of 'nothing will change'. I'm on a lot of FB boards with teachers and we joke about how well we will be appreciated after this, but I see it going the other way also with parents more resentful because they had to work so hard but couldn't see what teachers were doing. (The teachers posting that they aren't allowed to work right now and thus have margaritas in hand aren't helping....)
