    • RE: The Work Thread

      @aria

      I hope this stays awesome and you can keep that flexibility!

      We've had the opposite happen. Husband worked an hourly job and kept getting overtime because of poor hiring decisions, then took a job as a salaried position. He was still asked to work overtime, but didn't get paid any more. (It's an industry where they don't have to pay overtime, first position was.)

      My husband does the short news reports on the radio for a station out there (I don't know which station) because he lived in Utah for a while (we are both BYU grads) and so he tells me all the crazy shiz that is going on. Young and Dumb was a topic he ranted about ~forever~.

      My Kiva use to be a heckin' chonk and I thought that was just how she was. Then we moved into a place with stairs and she shed the weight so fast I thought she might be sick.

      Nope. Now she is a healthy boi and happy as a clam to be getting such good exercise.

      Ugh. I am sorry. I don't even know how the Mormons don't get the picture. The prophet and apostles didn't hold in person meetings for 3 conferences now and all sat with their masks on and six feet apart for all of them.

      How the heck haven't people of faith gotten the the picture yet?!

      @tinuviel said in Battling FOMO (any game):

      @ganymede You're typing like there's any sort of logic behind how people feel. People can know perfectly well that how they're feeling is unreasonable, but they still feel that way.

      This is real, legit, and I felt it to my soul. I know my thoughts are utterly irrational 99% of the time, but it is still there and it is still very real to me.

    • RE: Podcasts

      I just listed to Do No Harm from Wondery. It is about families who have had their kids taken away by CPS with no evidence except for a single physician saying there is possible abuse.

      It is a horrifying read and if you are a parent you will hug your kids for a while after.

      In the last episode they state that if you are a black child in America there is a FIFTY percent chance that by the time you are 18 you have had a CPS case open on you. 😞

      I've been highly critical of CPS ignoring my reporting on kids, but damn. This is the opposite problem.

      There is a possibility I might be able to move into my dream position at the school I'm in currently. (We're on better terms now that Admin have started to be more open about mistakes that were made this year and have actively attempted to make change.)

      Possibly.

      POSSIBLY.

      I am trying to manage my expectations but it's hard when I just want to jump around and clap my hands wildly.

      When you have an idea and everyone else seems to like an idea and they want to do your idea even though it's actually kind of a boring idea but it's an idea and it seems fine despite on paper being rather boring.

      @lisse24

      10/10 agree with you and @Arkandel !

      I think it would be rather easy to make a game set in the Reckoners world though! It would be like a super hero game. Only NPC Epics, and everyone else is a nice "normal" human. Very PvE with different Epics vying for control You can ally with an epic, work against them, slice of life stuff if you don't really want to engage against the Epics. Shifting worlds as one Epic takes over from another (we're all tired of this city of steel? Damn, look at that Water dude that just flooded the damn city). Probably place it in an alternate universe altogether so that we don't have to worry about being true to specific powers granted by Calamity.

      Man... I would staff the freak out of this game but know zero about setting something up. Le sigh.

      I have to agree with @Sunny that the game can bring out different aspects of people.

      The way the game is set up can absolutely steer people acting differently from the norm.

      I actually really like that kind of split. You get your fun times but also some distance.

      I'm actually really torn on if it's vital to have staff who also play. On one hand, it'll keep them happier and more involved. However, it also makes it really hard (speaking from my own experience) to have that distance from the immediacy of a situation/individual that is causing an issue.

      I wish there was some good balance of, "I'm a player and also having fun" with that "this person is my BFF, IC relationship, OOC Friend, Ride and Die (whatever)" in more staff so that there can be that unbiased look.

      My husband swears up and down he doesn't love our old lady black cat, but then sends me pictures of old lady black cat who hangs out with him all day now that I'm back in the building.

      I know the truth. He loves old lady black cat.

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

      I am 20 minutes into the Zach Snyder's Directors Cut of The Justice League and it is already a million times better than the 2017 version.

      Thank goodness.

      THIS is the DC world. No stupid slapstick comedy, no out of character wittiness. This is the DC comics I loved as a child and would stay up at night reading from my father's collection. It wasn't always particularly hopeful, but the stories were something I craved.

      Mine lasted only about 24 hours, so you should be okay if yours follows like mine does. (I had exactly the same symptoms, minus the allergy stuff.
