This train derailment. I live pretty close.

I am so irritated by all of the check ins and drama from people who don't ride the train, live nowhere near the incident, and are drama llama-ing all over the place 'oh, I am so lucky!' and blah blah blah. There are TWO BUTTONS in the crisis system Facebook uses, one saying that you're safe, and the other saying IT DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU. Like, dude, the last time you rode the train was 15 years ago. Nobody was worried. Just ugh, locals are being so freaking weird about this whole thing, and the news reports on it are wildly inaccurate (anybody heard the 30mph vs 80mph thing, yet? Yeah, the 30mph thing is for freight along that stretch of tracks), and there was not CONCRETE poured on the tracks by Antifa.

Ugh. Ugh ugh. There are hurt people, and 3 people are dead, and yet it is like Christmas for some of these drama llamas who are playing this whole thing up SO HARD.

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

@faraday How was calling us all pathetic and saying that we were lying about something that was demonstrably true even remotely constructive?

ETA: I mean seriously, I do understand the difference between constructive and non-constructive criticism. The implication that I don't is kind of offensive. The fact of the matter is, that's not how this is being enforced. Even a little bit.

I think @faraday's agreeing with you, just saying that it's not our call to make.

Whups. If this is the case, @faraday, sorry, I misunderstood the point you were trying to make.

I know it's not our call to make, but that doesn't mean I can't protest it and point out why I think there's a problem. If we're at a point where I should not be pointing out that I think there's a problem...well. Thankfully, I don't think we're at that point.

@Ganymede No, you didn't say what Enarei said was cool. @Arkandel did.

ETA: Which is my goddamned point. Figure. This. Shit. Out. All three of you are smart people with reasonable moral and ethical compasses. That you're having this much of a difficulty is really confusing to me.

      @Derp

Because selling the thing that they apply for jobs on, get call backs from jobs on, or call the cops with....for the 20 fucking dollars you can get for it (if you are lucky) makes complete sense.

Eta: I mean, did he have leather shoes on? He could eat those instead of asking for help.

I still don't think it is helpful, because I can see the post and make my own conclusions based on it.

Right. And by the way that you're behaving about it, you're still demonstrating that what SHE said was OK, but responding to it and/or pointing out that she is being nasty and/or passive aggressive is not. The way that you are right now behaving is giving her behavior legitimacy in the eyes of the people that cannot see whatever conversation you are having in the background. She is CONTINUING the behavior that people are objecting to, so saying repeatedly (especially when it's right after her posts) 'we are addressing this right now' comes off as being A-OK with the behaviors being displayed.

ETA: I literally feel that I cannot post in response to her 2 most recent posts to this thread without you telling me to 'knock it off, it's not helpful'.

    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

Generally I leave games for reasons specifically called out as excluded by the OP, and thus I have nothing to contribute to this thread. None of the other things that have happened to cause me to leave are a pattern or recurring reason that could be boiled down to a productive answer, they were each situational and related to the specific people involved, and as such it's not helpful.

I think ruling out external and harassment reasons when they're really the only repeat offender for game-leaving is not productive.

It would be nice to never have to come in sick. I would never, ever do it if I had my way. Pretty sure that is fairly universal.

@thenomain there's a difference between thinking that a staffer has made a mistake (or multiple mistakes) and finding them untrustworthy or unethical. Is that really the question here?

Yeah, I have to chime in on this, too. I disagree with choices made, but I do not in any way think that any of the moderators here are unethical or untrustworthy.

      This time of year.

I am so, so, so tired. I have all these fun things I desperately want to do...

I just can't. I've been too sick this year, I can't manage, I don't have the reserves for any of it. I hate it.

I hate that I had to stand there and watch somebody else move a package today that I COULD HAVE LIFTED because I've been so fucking fragile that nobody is willing to risk me doing anything physical at all.

The worst part is is that everyone else is ducking RIGHT and it really is better for me just to stand there and watch somebody else do the work because while I can for ME it is a RISK and when you have three people standing there for whom it is NOT a risk, it's stupid to not have one of them do it. And ALSO my brain is way way way way way ahead of my ducking body in the recovery process and THE BODY NEEDS TO CATCH UP NOW THANKS.

@collective said in How should IC discrimination be handled?:

      @sunny But ... but ... immersion!

Look, if a guy playing a werewolf from a family of reality bending mages who are tied to a small town that happens to be the epicenter for global cthuloid madness can't have his character call somebody the N-word while ripping a hole between the real world and a spirit realm so they can go chase rogue ghosts, well, that's just not realistic.

Pfft. The n-word is fine to ban, I don't care, he just better be able to call some woman a whore.

Yeah, so, I guess whatever you need to tell yourself in order to sleep at night after abusing customer service reps, but I am so done with this entirely disingenuous discussion.

      I looooove:

Code that always highlights/colors my name, server side.
Code that highlights/colors speech a different color omg so amazing.
Poseorder code to see where I am
Code that lets me read my alts' @mail.
      M1963's activity requirement notification code
Also weather code even though people mostly don't do it any more 😞 I like it when games are snowing.

It's for mourning the dead...except for when it isn't? This is the same forum where, in similar threads, people have posted 'X has died' and it's been followed by a host of "I'm glad he's dead!" posts. I honestly don't care either way but the hypocrisy found in this forum is often hilarious.

There is a point here, folks. Why is this objection not OK and others have been?

    • RE: Character Woes

I am playing the biggest asshole ever on KD right now, and it's hilarious. He is the most sexist, condescending jerk I have ever played by far and away. We are talking plates of food dumped in his lap first scene to making people make composure checks when he opens his mouth and the views come out. He's usually alright, if he is pretty sure the audience won't be receptive, but occasionally it spills out.

He is one of the EASIEST characters I have ever had to find RP with. I take him out and people are always OH GOD WHAT IS HE GOING TO DO NEXT? and then there are people. Even better than that, the character tends to grow on people despite everything. I tend to call it him dimpling his way out of trouble (dimple smiles fix everything).

There's a few keys to it, I've found:

In nearly every single pose that I make with people who don't know me, and my PC is being an asshole, I include at least one meta sentence acknowledging he's a jerk, usually mocking him for it.

Make people laugh, be over the top a little, get that 'oh my god I can't believe he just SAID THAT' thing going on.

I try to preload people, as well. FYI, this character is a jerk, I know it, feel free to abuse him.

Then again, the character is definitely there to be a punching bag, so that's probably different than most people who play assholes, too. I went into it with full intention of laughing hysterically whenever he reaps what he...uhm. Sow is a pig. Sew is thread. Uuuuuh. Reaps what he planted. Fucking Dory brain.
