      Trying unsuccessfully to explain that it is less stressful for me to just do the work that needs doing even if it means a breakneck pace on occasion, in comparison to the stress levels I would be under if I simply

      left.

      work.

      undone.

      ETA: NO. It is not that easy. I'm side-eyeing anyone who's thinking it. One does not just NOT DO work.

      @Sunny I don't know who your healthcare team is. I'll go with WHO on this...

      Which is perfectly reasonable, but it's also reasonable to comply with the directives of emergency management teams. I acknowledged what the WHO said, I'm not sure why you're taking exception to info being relayed. My point is that it's not a 'rumor', it's been a warning from emergency management sources that has not been retracted yet.

      @JinShei

      So, it was in my emergency management update from our healthcare team, which is not a 'rumor'. The articles definitely say 'talk to your doctor if you're already taking it' and the WHO has come out and said it is not a problem to take it as of this morning, but they have not thus far retracted it from the emergency info.

      The best advice I've seen so far is if you're sick, assume you have it, and take the appropriate steps to not infect anyone else. Most folks if they do get it will be fine; the big concern is transmitting it to people who don't have the immune systems to fight it off. Don't take ibuprofen though!!! Please!

      @Sunny Yeah i work at a drugstore. We aint closing.

      And if the rest of the people that lived in your apartment complex were reasonable about reserving the facilities for the people who had to go out, rather than going in there and licking the handles of things, you'd probably be able to continue to do laundry there. Expecting apartment staff to be able to keep up the standards of cleanliness required right now to avoid the spread of the disease is not a reasonable expectation.

      Not to be a party pooper, but it's probably because people end up congregating in laundry rooms and hanging out and touching everything and coughing while their laundry is being done. Laundry rooms are gross places, and they don't have the knowledge or staff to keep it from being a threat to everybody. The expectation is likely that since you're staying home and not going out and doing a lot, you don't actually need to do all of that laundry all the time. You're not safer at a laundromat, no, but everyone is safer if you wear your jeans twice.

      ETA: Unless you go out. If you go out, treat your clothes like you went fishing and they stink like fish and are contaminated.

      I mean.

      We're closing our casino.

      (That's sort of like saying Waffle House is closed, but we don't have Waffle House in the PNW that I know of.)

      @Seamus

      You're just wrong. The facts don't agree with your conclusion. The things you linked to don't agree with your conclusion. The webpage that you're saying proves what you're saying says THE OPPOSITE of what you're saying. That's why I'm going 'yikes'. You told me the sky was green, I asked for proof, you linked me something that said the sky was blue. There is nothing I can say at this point to explain anything to you. Just please, follow the recommendations of your local government (city/county/state in that order) and do what they say, they're not full of hype.

      ETA: I mean, Gany just did the math a couple posts up, right in plain sight. 38.6 million deaths.

      Yikes. So you've read all that, and you're saying 'marginally worse than the flu' still.

      @Seamus

      The emergency management information I have been receiving from the federal government as part of managing this disaster disagrees with you. There is neither scare tactics nor scare media involved in this part of what is going on, and I assure you it is not just marginally worse than the flu. I suggest that you start paying attention to what's coming out of the CDC and comply with your local government's recommendations, rather than blowing it off as hype.

      still hating it when people are all casual about everyone that's going to die in this pandemic
      or

      more accurately

      when they express that I am an acceptable loss for their political goals

      (I can hear you)

      My office just went to essential staff only. They are limiting access to the rez, and even tho the schools aren’t closed yet tribal council has let the superintendent know our kids will be staying home until further notice. We are trying desperately to keep this thing from getting to our elders. I really hope we manage.
