@ganymede It wasn't a year, in fairness. But it still wasn't the 3 days they initially asked for. They showed up around Xmas and left in... August, I think.

But at the time, they had enough of a fanbase/support that... it was all the 'fuck it'.

Forum was a fairly even split on her at the time, either love or hate.

Hate="We hate you for doing her a favor."
Love="We hate you for not continuing to do her a favor no matter how much harm she does!"

...ffffffffuck that. Nopeville. Nawp. Fuck all that. There is such a thing as a no win situation, and sticking around through that bullshit would have fit that definition pretty well. I may not be the smartest person in the room, but I'm not that stupid.

My main takeaway from it was: 'this may be on the fun side of OK for a movie, but a whole shedload of people would probably play the shit out of this as an RP setting.'

@surreality It's not an original creation; it's a theme based on a comic book (that also has cartoon media in its history).

...Is this one of those My Little Pony games? Please, please tell me it is.

      💛 💚 💙 💜 💖 ❤

I needed that laugh so much.

@sockmonkey Gods, that really is the same as with boobs. (You'd think the squishy factor would help, but NAWP, rib cage width and depth and pokey pokey wires too long and all the nope nope nope.)

In a kinder, gentler universe, we could just inflate or deflate the bastards with helium to float under their own power and autofit any damn frillybra or fancydress or maybe something strapless we flounce across, but no, we gotta live here. 😐

And while The Pianist is a static work of art that narrates events within a specific context and tells a specific tale. MU* simply don't work like that due to their interactive nature.

...and yet, you can't tell the static work: "Hey, too far, scale it back." You can when it's other players interacting, which is a benefit of the interactive nature of MU.

@ortallus Go, go watch now if you haven't already. You will probably love it. It was stupidly good.

@Ghost See, this is what people insist others do. As in, 'this is the only allowable way'. And I am just not remotely down with that, because it again makes 'playing something with elements of actual history' NOT ALLOWED.

If people want to do that? Go do that. Have a blast, sincerely, please do. But leave people who decide to do something else the fuck alone.

To the generic crowd that behaves this way: Just stop with this bullshit insistance that anyone who DOES NOT DO THAT is an RL *ist troll. It's divisive garbage behavior. The hobby is not solely composed of extremist SJWs and trolls, full stop. Stop acting like it is.

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

@tnp This sometimes comes with some unpleasant side effects, though. Like the oh-so-pleasant liver stones.

The docs last year initially told me they normally would not have tried the kind of surgery they were going to try on me (which has some weirdnesses to the specifics, I guess) because I am overweight, and like most others, they assumed it also meant my blood sugar was shit, my cholesterol was through the roof, etc.

...but they were doing every test under the sun for days, and saw that absolutely every one of my numbers, save for blood pressure being slightly high at the higher end sometimes, were not just OK, but really, really good.

The really, really good on the cholesterol, though, is due to the liver stones, though, they suspect, for I am a protein whore. 😕

@sparks The car was launched while playing it in the car, too, apparently. I teared up a bit, not gonna lie.

Also: Best. Navigation. Panel. Ever. ❤

My inner 5 year old also lost it, and I choked on my coffee, when listening to the mission control blow by blow, because so help me god, 'Falcon Heavy' really does not sound like Falcon when spoken very quickly over a radio, apparently. (The link here, it's reaaaaaally glaring in the first few seconds. Actual spit-take. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/videos/95856359-132.html )

@Pandora Well, I can't tell if you're joking about being upset about it or not entirely, but I sure as hell wouldn't fault anyone for wanting to slap the stupid off of whoever pulled that one out of their ass.

I am the wiseass that would get instantly banned thereafter for saying something like, "Spoiler alert: there are no fairies anywhere else, either, Peter Pan." (And commit canonical wholesale fairy genocide by choosing to disbelieve.) <cough>

No, this won't make sense to anyone but like, the three people I warned last night about delays on stuff, but...

...ok, I can sleep now and panic marginally less for at least a few hours.

Another factor to consider is, as a whole, MUSH-dom doesn't do subtlety very well.

This hasn't been my experience at all. Sure, some people fuck it up as you describe, but they're not what I'd consider typical of the hobby. They stand out more because crappy experiences always do.

Movies and books can actually portray this kind of villainy to add some depth and set a tone without making these aspects the every scene's sole focus.

So can players on a MU.

      PCs often don't.

Sure they do. What both goldfish and I recounted is not the behavior you describe at all. We did not stop existing from one page to the next.

Far more so when their players are disingenuous about their characters' purpose in the game.

Not sure what you're getting at here, unless it's going back to the 'all people OK with these themes existing just want to get their *ism on' principle, which is nonsense, with a 'they're just in denial about it' insult cherry on top. Hoping that's not what's intended so it would help to clarify this.

      @mietze I'm not describing a guess.

I'm describing guys I have personally known who talk about their wokefulness, how they are 'not like all those other guys', and how they play a lesbian 'right'.

      Spoiler alert: they don't.

@Kanye-Qwest These dudes clearly think there is, and that they have it down to a science.

On some levels, it's substantially more offensive than the guys who just make the anime-inspired fetish creations that are absurd on their face, as most take some of the most insidious bullshit notions of 'what women are like' and dial them up to thirteen.

There's the 'sulky pouty-face insecure' when not the center of attention, while acting very brazenly in ways most insecure women don't as the norm. Explosive emotive outbursts are 'a girl thing'. They will get huffy at the drop of a hat over shit to the degree that none of us would have survived junior high if we were that histrionic. Being shallow as fuck about their appearance -- or conversely, hipster-style 'SEE HOW LITTLE ATTENTION I PAY TO FASHION I'M SO EDGY!' The manic pixie dream girl trope is common.
