2e fixes some of that by allowing for multi-template packs. Yeah, you CAN still hole up, BUT there's reasons to go and rp with other folks from different areas of the game, too.

In my case, I was just starting to get things back up on Etsy, and decided to back out of it again. There's a lot of speculation in the article, but the money DID get shipped around and pulled out, and even just stripping it down to:

They took the money.
They knew the same day.
It's taken a while and not everyone has been fixed yet.
They tried to sleaze around and give store credit versus giving the cash back.

Nevermind not refunding the overdraft and bounce fees they're not reimbursing and the like.

It's just really soured me on it. They had a chance to fix a spectacular fuck up and make themselves shine with amazing customer service... and they really pooched the screw instead.

My problem was just being U.S. time and never finding folks on. Usually 2-3 logged in, always a staffer on, but very rarely anyone active or about.

Seriously about the pictures. I swapped to a google pixel 2 xl specifically because it can tell my blue from purple. On an average post (cause I hangups) it takes me... probably an hour of fiddling to get a couple of not-claw-your-eyes-out boring af pics. Then you upload and fill in all those blanks - which isn't too bad. It's the 'write 300 words, minimum, of nice things about the product and get people invested in some bs story'. When all I wanna do is be like: It's shiny, this long, these materials, and this one jingles a bit when you shake it. Buy my stuff.'

Looking at Amazon Handmade, there's a lot less blood and sweat involved. You don't have to have those /ten/ frikking pictures - you can have 1-3 or so and be alright. People don't go to amazon to invest in a story, they go for products and concise descriptions - which is where I might excel. The amount of work is surprisingly diminished for the much larger company, and it's really a surprise.

It almost feels like the expectations are totally different. With Etsy it's 'stay at home crafty moms have ALL the time ALL the creativity, let's make them do the heavy lifting' and Amazon is more... 'We understand a business has X resources to put into these things in a day, let's give them what they need and keep it on point.'

RL is finally letting up - again, I apologize to anyone I have left hanging with all of this. I was supposed to have two months to get plots going and the game more stable before it all went sideways on me with the extended hospital stay and month-early baby arrival.

Starting monday the 14th, I'll be working on getting plot balls rolling and rp going again. Family is heading home tomorrow, and that'll give me a few days to dig through the logs and bboards to pick up the plot threads and people that want to, to roll by and thaw or cgen and come play with us.

I'll be kicking off with a neutral court on the 18th at around 8:30p EST.

Be careful with what scents you use - some can have detrimental effects on critters.

@cobalt has some code floating out there on a few sites that is +prefs. It'd be stupid easy to alter the list of types of rp to reflect do's and don't's.

@surreality If you want a 9mm, look into the Sig Compact (and there's one smaller, a Sub-Compact I believe. It's been years and it was too small for my hands). I know I'm late to the party.

The problem with nWoD and being too grim-dark or oppressive non-stop:

Is this a 'players make it grim dark', a 'staff make it grim-dark in theme', or 'ST's never let us do fun campy shit to relieve the grim-dark for awhile' issue?

Personally, I love grim-dark, but you gotta balance that with some happy, campy shit that makes you laugh til you cry and you can't type. (Looking at you @Cobaltasaurus and your wolf-chucking ways.)

@Derp - If only if was more like Supernatural! I'm actually rewatching the series and so inspired to run plots I can't hardly see straight XD

The magic of Supernatural is that it doesn't take itself seriously. There's room to have fun and be goofy and go to those crazy, wacky places with it. But then you also have these amazing NPC's, like Pestilence, Death, and Loki. Death's entrance to the series is just... Amazing.

It could very well be different thresholds for grimdark, too. Me, I can watch Saw and munch blue-rare steak like 'wut?'. I try to temper that when I ST because not everyone has a cast iron stomach and enjoys that kind of gore. Or the darkness found in Hostel.

So, if I have this right, it seems like the theme is alright if it's oppressive, but it's more or less up to the ST's, Players, and Staff to try and find that balance between too dark and too campy?

And maybe some 'take it seriously, but not too seriously', otherwise it is too oppressive on an ooc level?

It sounds like this a turning into a case where it falls back on the usual culprits of 1) Staff expectations and flexibility between hardlining theme or being flexible enough for that mix of styles to exist 2) Players and ST's communicating about what they want, need, and expect from a scene(s), and 3) that handy +prefs code @Cobaltasaurus came up with to help people get there and find people that'll play to the level the different player-types are wanting.

I would even toss out the idea of Staff being open to more ideas from players, but players being willing to go to staff with suggestions.

And not just the usual 'what do you want, well too bad we're not doing that' sort of lipservice a lot of games give, but actually implementing the suggestions that come in when you get players to talk to you.

I was always drawn to the dark gritty with that bit of fantasy. It was noir with a splash of dark fantasy. It was scraping hy, or jonesing for the next implant so the pay scale (and risk) could go up.

Cyberpunk was too dry and shadowrun was almost too fantasy, I mostly took the middle road of chasing the personal struggle and the stories that could be found. Plus, I got to draw maps and try to outfox (nearly impossible) a group of experienced players. It was never me vs them, but always trying to work around some insane sheets to provide a challenge.
