Yeah, they wanted to make the setting more accessible and blah blah missed the point of it blah blah. ^^

And that seems so weird to me because what makes a setting interesting to me is having that backdrop to put my adventures into. Same thing with the City by Night, or Rage across Land, books from Whitewolf. I have never used the plots mentioned in those book but that structure helps me come up with a ton of ideas to run within those frameworks.

Yeah and they had set up things fairly well for the City of Shade returning it was a plot point definitely hinted at. though a lot of the events after that seemed to be designed to clear the deck of most of the well known NPCs which to me was the main draw of the setting.

I have to agree there. I have also thought the sweetest spot in the Forgotten Realms timeline is just after the Time of Troubles.
I have ran things set after 1372 DR but when I do I make it a point to give the players my games timeline and tell them to ignore the official one past that date.

I think to social part would be hard to teach since there is no one set standard. Take something as simple as joining a scene in progress on the grid. (Not wanting to restart that at all just using an example) Not only do different games have different protocols but also a lot of players feel very strongly on it in very different ways. I would be wary of teaching a new person what is acceptable based on on game or group of games and then having that person instead be drawn to a different group of games. Entering with incorrect knowledge can often be worse than entering with no knowledge at all.

For example I love flowery purple prose, but I'm well aware that's not for everyone; if I choose to not play with (generic) you very often because you prefer short prose that's completely my choice and we don't need to be mortal enemies! It's just... a thing.

This exactly, probably the only person that I have met on a MU that I would refer to as a friend instead of internet friend I almost never RP because while we have similar other interest and enjoy talking OOCly our play styles do not match so while on occasion we do rp for the most part we talk over pages.

@sparks said in Make it fun for Me!:

In general, my rule of thumb for how I try to play is just "try to make the scene interesting and enjoyable for everyone involved".

This is really my goal in any scene, after all if people don't have fun enjoyable scenes with me than unless they are completely masochistic or idiotic they will quickly stop having scenes with me. (Not every scene will hit this goal but no one bats 1.000)
So while I ma a big advocate of having fun yourself you should not ignore the fun of others. It hearkens back to tabletop for me. If the GM is not having run running the game they will stop running it so make it fun for the GM too. Just like when I am running the game I try my best to make sure it is fun for the players, but if a player makes my live miserable as the GM i have zero issue telling him to leave nor leaving a game that stops being fun for me.

I will be honest my fun is the main goal of RPing for me, or any other leisure time activity I take part in. I will do my best to also make fun for others, on a much we are both the suppliers and consumers for the fun. If we fail to supply then we will have no fun that is true, but unless I am getting some other compensation I won't be in a scene long unless it is also fun for me.

but the idea of a system in which NPCs work fundamentally different from PCs purely because they are NPCs (I can handle the idea of NPCs having abilities PCs lack because they are supernatural creatures/aliens/etc.) doesn't really appeal to me.

This is the one of the bigger dislikes for me in a system. To me the PCs are special because they are the focus of the story, not because the mechanics work different for them. I can handle classes of characters, like how Feng Shui 1st edition divides things between Named Characters and mooks, PC are named characters so special but function mechanically the same as a named NPC.

@ixokai said in What's missing in MUSHdom?:

Do you mean the Monte Cook game which is about a paranormal-ish multiverse organization world hopping with the system Numenera uses?

Yes. That's the one. I'm not a huge fan of the system itself but I really like the setting.

You know The Strange could be interesting on a MUSH. I know will never play it table top since the who GM never rolls means I will never run it, and no one else in my table top group runs anything besides superheroes, Shadowrun or D+D.
I find he system kind of interesting in theory and wouldn't mind a chance to test it out.

@roz They probably had a reason. His family will probably die in Infinity War, which could explain his absence from all movie-related promotions.

... I am not saying it's a good reason either way, though.

MCU has always been closer to early Ultimate Marvel than Regular Marvel so my guess is you are exactly right, they will kill off the family for pathos most likely sicne that is exactly what happened to Hawkeye's secret family in Ultimates series 2. (Yes I just spoilers part of that story but it has been out for a decade so I have zero guilt over it.)

    • RE: The Basketball Thread

Look at the Cavs team he drug to the finals in 07, if he is on for the playoffs he can make the finals. The biggest issue is if he can maintain being on for the playoffs at his age when his team will be overmatched from at least the second round on.

I think the Raptors have as good a shot as any non-LeBron team does of making the finals.
Though If I was betting on things I would go with the Cavs,I have no real confidence in them, but I will start believing at team from the East will unseat LeBron when and if they have a lead in a playoff series against him.

      @auspice
Wow I grew up in a town of 5k but we had a mom and pop pizza place that also had the arcade version of golden axe in their game room. Heck the city I live in now is only 125K and it has plenty of non chain options that are decent and not significantly more expensive, most don't deliver though so I will admit when I am too lazy I go out i chain it, but I couldn't honestly claim to like it besides in the Pizza is like sex way. (Even when it is bad, it is still pretty good.)

Pineapple does not belong on pizza, sauces that are not red do not belong on pizza.

Edit to Add: It is almost as bad not with pizzas as it is with martinis, which for the record have three acceptable ingredients, gin, vermouth, and an olive.

My first example of GM Fiat came from before what I knew what the word fiat meant. It was in I think 4th grade we had just picked up the Basic Set of Dungeons and Dragons. (Old red Box set) In the first session one of the characters wanted to punch an NPC, no where in those rules is there any word about hand to hand combat so the GM at the time had to make something up.
