RE: Shadows Over Reno (Threeboot?)
How's things in game? Easy to find RP and get into /the action/?
I was looking through the wiki and couldn't find any info on if there are still restrictions in place on XP spends. Does a PC need to wait X amount of time between raising specific attributes/values (blood potency/primal urge/disciplines/gifts)?
Is there active staff this time around that work jobs/answer questions?

So imo the way to stop min-maxing is to make strong, effective ways of designing characters be very, very, very intuitive and what someone would do anyways.
In my opinion, the way to stop min-maxing is by providing multiple avenues of "attack." In a competitive PvP game, give people more than one way to knock their opponent on their ass.
I agree with the Multiple Avenues of "attack". I know on BitN I would have took my PC into a total combat focus with Min/Max used to optimize combat. I had a friend that ST'ed a lot of scenes for me and a small group that would make sure we needed to use a number of skills to succeed. This meant to be successful I had to have a well rounded character which kept me from Min/Maxing.

Or create a system where staff interaction is less of a thing. I mean I know jaded staffers think they're funny but players just wanna play and not hear your jaded and shitty attitude. Approve my xp spend and if you don't like it then move to an automated system.

@thatonedude Yeah. I'm not saying it can't be fixed. I'm just saying that that is the current fix and those are the results.
Of course turning it down to the level of Primal Urge does then lead to the early issue with some players complaining that they want their own sphere limitations loosened, but that's a whole separate ball of wax.
The thing that is weird to me is most games have a hard time with the stuff that in the big picture don't really mean anything. "We're gonna remove multiattack cause we don't like you kicking NPCs in the face 5 times! AND! We're scared you'll use it in PK which is TERRIBLE!" Ok... but making it easier for an ENTIRE sphere to RP is mission impossible?
The above multiattack thing is so stupid that I can't even as well. I mean if its a PK thing then house rule that you can't use multiattacks in PK... >.>;

@catsnake The houserules as currently written only slightly ease the problems of those limitations. Supers can add their powerstat to their Willpower roll but even when you are rolling 8-9 dice and the Promethean is only rolling 3 dice you are going to lose out pretty often, and since you have to roll every single time you meet them (after the first) you're going to build up Disquiet pretty quickly (if you are rolling 9 dice to resist and the Promethean is rolling 3 dice for Disquiet you will gain a point of Disquiet about 1 time out of 6). Since you have to avoid gaining any more Disquiet for a period of weeks equal to the Promethean's Azoth in order to lower the Disquiet score it becomes pretty hard to reduce Disquiet if you are having any meaningful contact.
To put that into context, a Promethean with 3 Azoth can only meet with the character with 9 dice of resistance an average of twice a week if the person isn't going to be gaining (on average) Azoth. Twice a week doesn't really allow for much RP. And of course that's people with 9 dice. If the person doesn't have a powerstat then they better have some really good stats or else they aren't going to be able to RP much with the Promethean at all.
In a similar vein the 'fix' for Wastelands was that there was one place on the grid that Prometheans could stay at, way outside the city, where they wouldn't build Wastelands.
This seems like something super easy to fix. Just change it to a mechanic much like Primal Urge where they are uncomfortable to be around, lose dice for social interactions. I mean its an RP game so... Why wouldn't that be the first thing worked out

@jennkryst The third paragraph of the book is already talking about "Us" versus "Them". The game is about making insular packs, which in tabletop is ideal. The more people pretend that isn't what Werewolf is about, and that it in turn translates into pockets of sandbox, or interpack PvP, on a MU, the less we are talking about how to tweak the premise or game setups to make it work better.
Then again, I have heard people ask for pack vs pack werewolf MUs. So maybe the game isn't broken for MUs, it is just that nobody is willing to sit down and make a game solely revolving around physical combat pvp?
It also says: Werewolves see everything through the lens of the hunt. You form packs to have other people to hunt with. You keep territories to become familiar with hunting grounds. The spiritual, supernatural part of your soul gives you a predator’s instincts — and puts you on edge when you don’t hunt.
Later adding:
Other creatures might prove capable of aiding a battle with the idigam, even if indirectly. Vampires have little in the way of spiritual powers but can lend impressive resources to a pack in need. Manipulating human agencies to buy room to maneuver or providing weapons can help. Any hunt for Lul’Aya is certain to result in catastrophic damage and bring down all kinds of attention from authorities, but savvy vampires can help mitigate that. Few are potent enough or foolish enough to actually join in on the hunt itself. Other supernatural entities might contribute to the hunt. Creatures of fae glamour shudder when confronted by a being capable of ripping out a person’s soul and warping it. -

@auspice Ugh. I'm sorry.
the joys of Macbooks. Mind, this seems to be an edge case. I can't find many examples of this particular issue. I'm really hoping compressed air fixes it and it is just a piece of dust or cat hair wedged in the contacts somewhere.
Else wise I'll just get a portable keyboard and hold out until I graduate. I've only got a few weeks left of hauling a backpack while walking and busing, so adding a bit more weight of a keyboard isn't a huge deal.

That site is great. I don't know what MacBook you have but replacing the keyboard is easy . They should have instructions if needed.

RE: Games that are active overnight?
I'm going to guess you play a vampire? There are people but vampire seems to have a shit time getting along. Mage is a little rough cause some people are scared but really I play a lot at night and odd hours and I don't have too terrible of a time. There are people in Europe and Australia as well as a couple skeevy dudes I've seen lurking about on the late night (I swear I'm not one). I think the key is availability (being able to play when they play) and content (something interesting to do). There is ton's of people I could RP with but if we have nothing to RP about what's point?

RE: RL Anger
Dear PoS Barely Looks Like You Started Shaving Co-Worker,
I walked up to you and asked politely for your attention. Twice.
The third time, I gave you a nudge with my elbow (because I am sick, and touching you with my hands might pass more germs than you deserve) and said, "Oi, could you please move?" Yes, you were wearing headphones, but that does not mean you have an excuse for not being aware of the environment around you, or knowingly taking up more space than you had to.
For you to then turn around and tell me that not to talk to you that way (after I tried the polite route TWICE) is quite the irritant, and no "there are other seats to sit in" is not an acceptable argument. Oh, and re-shifting your seat so I'm stuck half between tables while I go to get my meal out of the microwave? Fucking petty.
I may be extra cranky because I'm sick, but you're an entitled little prick with far too much sense of his own privilege.
(Oooh, that was nice and purging.)
I feel your pain...
I usually work from home or at least I've been doing so for about the past year. At my office I still have a desk with all my stuff in it. While I've been working from home a new guy has been sitting at my desk, answering my phone and breathing into my headset and farting in my chair.
I see the draw, I have a huge cube that's almost an office (just doesn't have a door) that is at the windows with a great view.
What isn't cool is when I come back into the office for a week to work 12 hour days and he tells me, "Sorry man I'm here all week. I'll be sitting here." From my seat, at my desk, with my stuff.
After he got chewed out and thrown out of my cube it'd be nice if he would then just apologized instead of trying to complain to our director and tell everyone what a dick I am.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right thread? But it seems an adult enough topic, I guess?
The Dollar Shave Club. Anyone here use it? Is it worth it? I go through razors like mad some months. On top of routine maintenance, I periodically use a razor to shave my head so if I do that three or four times a month because I just like the look? That runs through razors pretty quickly.
I think at present I spend about $30 or so on blades and sundries per month? So if anyone uses Dollar Shave Club, is it worth it?
I use the dollar shave club and it’s great. I don’t even think about replacement blades ever anymore because they just show up. For me it’s been a great change that’s saved me a ton money vs buying Gillette razors in the store.

@packrat WoD somehow mires itself in so much mechanical bullshit an easy 30-minute fight turns into a spammy 5 hour fight and the ST is left with a headache at the end.
I've never been so tired as after STing a combat plot in WoD.
And Pendragon is about 3000x worse, for its fatality rate.
In RP scenes for WoD it would make sense to just do all the dice work first and then pose it out. I mean most of the time if we think of actions performed in combat at times its taking cover/running for cover, closing distance or performing actions that are one off actions.
Really it could just be init -> everyone declares/acts/rolls -> pose all the results. Just doing that per round would make things faster vs the time lost waiting for a declaration, a roll, then a pose. Depending on what's happened it could be the whole combat scene tied up neatly in a pose or two.

RE: Do you buy your RPG books?
I buy PDFs as I'm a closet gamer and can't have physical evidence laying around for people in RL to find. Purchases is how I roll as I like to support the games I like.

@surreality Yeah, that would probably make me just stop replying. A peeve of mine? Don't show up at my doorstep without notifying me well ahead of time. I want a day notice, preferably. My mother's shadow once fell across my door. I looked through the little peephole. Stared at her. Turned around. Walked away. I made sure to clear my throat just loud enough so that I knew she'd hear from the outside and know that I was home. She called me then: "I'm at your door", "I know", "So let me in", "No, get some manners". She went home that day without paying me a visit.
By the way were you able to get any of the floss boxes? I figured it's important that you be reminded that we need them.

RE: New Superhero Game Looking for Staff/Feedback
@Lithium said in New Superhero Game Looking for Staff/Feedback:
@Ominous That's the thing, there's a lot of different systems but /none/ of them really translate to MU* format well. You can hack Fate or use one of the Fate super settings, that works well for cinematic stuff. You can go the opposite route and go with say, Hero System.
Honestly... if you can successfully patch afflictions, and fix the broken feats that totally alter your power scale... then M&M isn't /bad/ per se.
As for changing the world, this needs to be possible. Nothing is more game killing for a super hero game (for me) than knowing that no matter what I do... it doesn't matter to the game world at all.
I'm curious about this game breaking part of the rules and the example used. This is honestly just an honest question as I don't know the system in use. Your example sounded like a Superman or like character (hits hard and can take a hit). Wouldn't the balance be a like character? I mean the equalizer for Batman vs Superman is leveraging superman's weakness but with out that one material it's not a "fair fight". But if you stand Superman against someone with like power it changes things.

RE: Mage: the Ascension Online
I'll say this, purely as a player that just hit the page. I love the use of the browser and the integration with Evennia. CG is pretty slick, I like it! Way better than a room or no room with a bunch of commands... This is coming from an IT guy that scripts / codes and writes queries all DAY. I'd much rather hit a page that let's me build out a PC in a sheet than via +stat/set Something=Something (times 40 times)
