RE: RL Anger
The kids can be sent away for less...
IDK, maybe California is different with the high ticket price plus price of concessions and then huge crowds equals >.<
Sending kids to a friend/relative/parents night out ... priceless?

RE: RL Anger
I've been reading over the last several pages of replies and it rekindled in me the anger I feel over movie theaters. As I'm known to do while browsing movies on my AppleTv or cable box and find movies that I can Pre-Order... why are movie theaters even a thing anymore? If I can watch own a movie for $14 and watch it from my comfy couch with surround sound and a 3D or whatever else... what's the point of the theatre?
How come these have not gone the way of the drive in movie (yes I know some are around but they are now a novelty).

RE: CofD and Professional Training
The info below is taken straight from the CofD book. I have a hard time with the "want" for people to make the game something more rigid and more difficult than I think its meant to be. Reading a lot of the discussions I feel like a lot of the intent of the game is missed. If our goal is RP/Story telling... why is PT an issue? Why is it a problem that my handy inventor with crafts 5 and dex 2 is good at repairing not only cars but knives, armor or sewing a torn shirt (if successes on a roll are hit)?
Skills defined in CofD:
Skills are learned and practiced abilities, rather than the innate abilities that Attributes represent. Skills reflect a character’s origins and interests, and can be acquired in many ways, from institutionalized learning to hands-on experience. Skills are divided into the same Mental, Physical, and Social categories as Attributes.Skills are very broad abilities, representing whole fields of knowledge or training. A Skill Specialty is a more focused application of a Skill, representing a specific subcategory of the Skill that the character is particularly talented or trained in. Skill Specialties allow you to personalize your character more. Two characters with very similar Skills can feel very different in play, if they have different Specialties.
Example Skill:
Academics represents general higher education and knowledge of arts and humanities. It covers topics like history, language, literature, law, and economics. It is a very broad Skill that covers general knowledge in all of these areas, but Skill Specialties can be used to represent a specific focus. The Academics Skill often represents the amount of schooling a character has. However, some characters are self-taught or have learned a great deal about relevant topics without actually setting foot on a college campus. Also, some people with advanced degrees pay no attention to topics outside their area of expertise, and have a low rating in Academics. The above is used to show its super flexible and to show you could have a Doctorate with one dot of academics and specialties related to an area of expertise...
With crafts the same is true in how its defined. But for CofD the following should be remembered:
The Storyteller is responsible for…
…bringing the Chronicles of Darkness to life through description.
…deciding where scenes start and what’s going on.
…portraying characters who don’t belong to other players.
…involving each player and her character in the ongoing story.
…putting players’ characters in tough spots, encouraging interesting decisions.
…facilitating the actions players’ characters take, while making sure there are always complications.
…making sure that poor dice rolls affect but don’t stop the story. The players are responsible for…
…creating their own individual characters as members of the cast.
…deciding what actions their characters take.
…making decisions that create drama and help keep the story moving.
…highlighting their characters’ strengths and weaknesses.
…confronting the problems the Storyteller introduces.
…developing their characters’ personalities and abilities over time, and telling personal stories within the overall story of the game.Everyone is responsible for…
…giving other players chances to highlight their characters’ abilities and personal stories, whether that’s by showing them at their strongest or weakest.
…making suggestions about the story and action, while keeping in mind the authority of players over their characters and the responsibility of the Storyteller to occasionally make trouble. -

I keep thinking that with CofD and Demon in Mu* that a conversion to the cWoD Demon (maybe using the rule book for conversion) would take that management overhead out of the equation. Demon would then be similar to the other spheres with less of the over head that comes with the new Demon.
You're saying words, but I don't know what any of them mean.
There is a translation guide that was released to convert one game line to the other and vice versa as well as mix and match (Demon the Descent and Demon the Fallen). Demon the Descent has tons of overhead with covers and the like where Demon the Fallen was more in line with how other spheres were designed in cWoD. Ideally demon could be changed in such a way to still be playable for players while manageable by staff. The translation guide is cool because it does a lot of the work for you and/or gives you tons of ideas to build off.

What if the God-Machine was just...God?
What if the Fallen escaped from Hell, only to find themselves in a World of Darkness overseen by a vast Machine and techngnostic angels?
What kinds of bargains might the Unchained make if they knew the Almighty was always watching?
The Demon Translation Guide will help you find the answers.
This book includes:
- Translations of the Incarnations and Houses between versions of Demon
- Suggestions and ideas on how to use certain rules and setting elements in each version of the game
- Core powers (Embeds, Exploits, and Lores) converted for use into the opposite game system

RE: CofD and Professional Training
It's weird the concern of 9again and Rote when you can stack specialties. Now granted rote is pretty slick but with PT you burn a WP which in a lot of situations isn't ideal for extended periods of time.
9again is pretty cool but on the probability scale adding dice to normal rolls is most likely more overpowered, more so at the lower levels of a dice roll (number of dice).
So for example. If we use firearms as an example and my character has stats like: Dex 2 and Firearms 2 that gives me a total of 4 dice with no tilts lowering the pool.
If I spend 5 XP to build up specialties related to firearms (Pistols, Revolvers, Colt 45, Antiques, and Aimed Shot). Now in a combat situation with my trusty antique colt 45 my dice pull can be 2 + 2 + 5 + 3 (add willpower) for 12 total dice which has a probability of about 35% - 39% chance of an exceptional success (5 successes) vs 2 + 2 w/rote (spend a WP) for a 4% - 5% chance of an exceptional success. Again that's showing the same XP cost.
Granted more dice with rote will give you significant gains but the biggest bang for your buck really is adding dice to increase probability.

RE: CofD and Professional Training
To be clear, we're all talking CofD PT right? 5 xp for 5 dots?
-
RE: CofD and Professional Training
When games have no PK, why does PT benefits matter? Everything at that point is just story/RP. Why is it a bad thing if a PC that has a back story as a soldier is able to roll 9-again with any firearm (due to year and years of training and experience) and then if he really focuses on the shot, he can do exceptionally well (rote)? What does it hurt other than furthering the story?

Character description is full of win: " with thick brown curls that beg for a sea breeze to ruffle them".
That character description is a red flag all by itself.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
One suggestion this now old man can make for the youngsters out there (I say this with a smile, I'm in my late 30's now but I had a kid before I was 18, lived all over the world, was in the military and consider myself successful in life with respect to position/pay and the like).
That suggestion is that when you make goals make sure they're realistic and don't try to do it all at once. Don't try to eat that whole pizza in one bite, break it up into slices that you consume with bites.
I read once this theory of 1%... If you strive for 1% improvement daily the results vs no progress when added up are mind blowing.
Just like in the military, with working out and getting in shape, we didn't do 5 mile runs on day 1, instead we worked up to it. Running for longer distances gradually while improving speed. As others have said here, to boost health being more active and "adding steps" through out the day is a real winner.
Morning walk/jog/bike then active through the day with another session of walk/jog/bike or whatever at night will bring HUGE gains, more so if you've been less than active
Good luck!

BeipMU
Spawn windows and correct-as-you-type spell checking. That's where it's at.
Just use Duck Client, that's where it's at. You get the spell check as you go, you can spawn windows and more.

@thebird I'd suggest starting with Baker Street. It's an RP Meme community and a good way to get started. There are story based communities as well. Be advised a lot of the memes on Baker Street have a sexual or romantic element to them, but plenty of them don't. Also, Dreamwidth RP tends to focus on "feature characters" from media and pop culture, rather than original creations, though those are out there too. Good luck!

RE: City of Angels MUX (CofD/nWoD 2E)
There is a book to convert cWoD demon to CofD Demon/GMC. By leveraging a like approach one could bring in demon in an interesting way that doesn't need to leverage the godmachine side of things or the secret operative portion. In this way the staff overhead would decrease and demon players would be able to roll in events with other players without a lot of problems. Another thought would be to just do away with that portion and have the whole thing be more like the masq or how the werewolves on 2e do it.
