    • RE: Optional Realities & Project Redshift

Let me just say as a player of both rpi MUDs and mushes, both communities are equally dismissive of each other. There really might not be a common ground between the two. From what I've seen in this thread, certain points were brought up and weren't really addressed and hostility, passive or naked emerged.

It makes me wonder, why continue to post or update a thread where you're greeted with such opposition? I don't think being all "come at me bro" is going to be that conducive either. This is a derivative of the Snark/Wora board, but I think the questions and points brought up in the beginning were very genuine and were ignored...which brought on the reaction you have now.

So I'm also wondering, if you don't want to discuss what you're advertising and seeing how well it's going, why do it?

@Lithium I wouldn't get too discouraged. Right from the beginning, you said what it is you planned to do and it sounds awesome! I'm excited for it. I haven't had anything constructive to add, so I haven't said anything.

This thread has taken a strange turn a long time ago. I almost feel like people are posting just to post something. Let the peanut gallery be the peanut gallery. People can make their own Mu* with all those features. You get to make what you want and people will most definitely come to play.

She said, if you want to go on a run wait for someone to run one or run one yourself on pg 4.

My vote is between Austin and San Francisco.

Austin because, it's got a touch of hipster, the south and Azatlan. That sounds like a pretty interesting combination.

San Fran well because it's also a diverse setting, but this time with hippies, yakuza and triads. You have Oakland and Berkeley nearby. A lot can be done with the setting.

To me setting is key here because the more diverse it is, more things become possible. They also effect the theme. So yeah, I think those two have the most play in theme.

@silentsophia I thought we were into the multi-ethnic hipster chick lesbian phase now? If its not a thing it should be.

I'd be willing to help out on a Shadowrun Mu*. I built a grid for a Shadowrun New York that never happened. I haven't mushed in a long time, but I'd be willing to help out.

@Luna Don't forget 15 and a lesbian too. Somebody should've drawn what one of those pcs would've looked like in real life.

    • RE: Shadowrun!

I played Shadowrun Seattle, Detroit and London, yes even Denver.

      Names are escaping me now.

My first Mu was Shadowrun, I played a yakuza soldier with the worst stats ever, can't recall her name. The next character I had was a French Canadian elf named Maria, she was an infiltrator. The only run I remember was the one where I opened a door with rigged explosives because everybody hmm'd and hawed around it and I dodged the blast. Someone on my team wrecked my car after that.

On Shadowrun Detroit, I played a single mom mechanic. Her name is escaping me. Then I played Natty, a big ex soldier street Sam. I think I played Natty the most because he was a combat monster. After he got nuked for inactivity, I played Sukanya, a middle aged combat medic. She was also a combat monster, had a lot of fun with her too. Then the game went down.

On Shadowrun Denver I played Sabra, an Israeli phys ad. I think I initiated once with her on there and I beat the crap out of some Troll in a pit fight. I want to say I won a tournament with her, but I think someone who was even more twinked up beat me, but the dice we were rolling were epic.

On Shadowrun London I played Minerva, a Jamaican merc. It was a pretty low powered game. All I remember doing on there was beating up a PC in a bar and taking all of his weapons, because he was a dick.
      I miss Shadowrun...

      @tragedyjones said:

True Detective had a much slower burn than last season, and possibly suffered from dividing the attention between 4 protagonists, but it has gotten great in the end, and I am sad it is about to be over.

I love noir so much, I really didn't mind the slow burn. Vince Vaughn is really good as a criminal and was a really big surprise. Usually slower shows, it takes about three episodes to get into, but this took four or five. I'm going to be sad when it's over too.

Nobody's watching True Detective? The last three or four episodes have been fantastic! I can only describe this season as post-modern noir.

I used to feel like I was really missing out on things. Then I was unemployed for a while and had time to Mu again. Well then I realized I wasn't really missing out on anything at all and I was just sitting at my PC hoping. Eventually I found another job and realized a few hours was really all I could stand anyway.

    • RE: Burning Post II

@BetterJudgment I've been playing for a short while and didn't know there were other iterations. I just assumed there was a regime change and a new vision implemented.

So I did some poking around and I found another version. From what I can see the other version is a more coded mud, while burning post is a little more stripped down. In a way it's similar to WoD or any other franchise; the races and factions are the same but the story arc is different. I plugged it because it's got a different theme than I'm used to and it's a nice change of pace for me.

      I also use mushclient, btw.

@BetterJudgment - I really can't comment on the previous game. I've just started playing about a month ago, so I can only comment on the game as it is now.

As for it being underpopulated, it has about 18-20 people playing at peak times, but can go down to about 4 during off peak. Sounds about average to me.

    • Burning Post II

Burning Post II is a medieval Mud set on the parallel world of Urth. (Don't let the Mud codebase scare you as roleplay is the primary focus, though it has much of the automation of a Mud, primarily combat and some skill based crafts). Burning Post II (BurPs) is as close to a Mud/Mush hybrid as I have seen, worth checking out.

The story so far: The world of Urth is similar to medieval Earth, however magic and demons are real. The primary religion is the Davite religion, which is similar to Catholic Christianity and is diametrically opposed to the use of magic. Those who are suspected of using magic are burned at the stake, hence the name Burning Post.

After a series of wars and inquisitions, a mysterious magical shroud has fallen around the island of New Yarsith and the nearby county of Linden. Demons have been appearing through strange portals, causing much destruction. New Yarsith and Linden county are highly religious while far to the south lies the free city of Oceanwall. Oceanwall is more of a free-city where magic is allowed and thrives, much more chaotic with looser laws.

There are open roles in both the New Yarsith and Oceanwall areas. Want to play a zealous knight with a dirty secret? New Yarsith might be where you want to start. Want to play a herbalist that dabbles in magic? Oceanwall is a good starting point.

      Concepts the game needs:
      Troubadours- Storytellers, musicians, poets
Reeves- Local law enforcement for both cities
Orderites- Davite clergy in both cities: Missionaries, Priests, Knights, nuns, etc
      Merchant/Crafters- Woodworkers, Smiths, Jewelers, etc
Mercenaries- Down and dirty gritty sword for hire types

Those aren't the only concepts, there also other factions that have an active player base such as, tavern owners, Doctors, Chimerists (alchemists), etc. The game is levelless and there is nothing stopping you from delving into another field. Skills are gained through XP and XP is gained through RP, so the incentive to go out and RP is there. Combat is handled through emotes called Cemotes, in which you pose backflipping in the air and slashing (Ok, I'm exaggerating) at your opponent and your skill and code handle whether you hit or not.

The game has a small, mature playerbase and is looking to grow. Come on down and roll up a character, poke around a bit. BurPs is currently gearing up for a new story arc, the staff are open to many concepts and the players are extremely helpful in answering questions.
