RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
I'd suggest not allowing Indies up front. The MUing population is small, and you want that small populace concentrated into one of the two opposing factions at first. Allow indies... six months in, and reward those with a demonstrated ability to run story and drive themselves with a ship, or some such.

I agree that the repeated and misogynistic threats/invocations of death and mutilation were probably bannable but I think that using the derogatory term that has been specifically delineated in this forum over several years as one of the few that is off limits is also bannable & and an easier and more immediately enforceable banning rule which seems to require the mods to have to do less work figuring out what behavior is over the line in the future.
I'm all about easy objective standards when it comes to placing trash in the appropriate receptacle.
I feel like this is landmine modding. There is to my knowledge no list of illegal words anywhere on this forum. There is no way a new poster can know which terms are allowed and which are not.
There is however a rules of engagement sticky in the hogpit which disallows misogyny and RL threats.
We've had this argument plenty of times, we're not going to have it again.
I agree that saying a word shouldn't get you banned - excepting in cases where a traditionally bigoted word is used to actually make an attack based on that word (the n-word, for instance) since word usage and intent isn't universal.
Thus it should come with a warning first, after which it's not the word it's the disobeying an instruction to stop doing something that is bannable. Easy.
In this instance, it's not even remotely the main issue that needed to be addressed, and I absolutely abhor the statement that it is the reason. It's like charging someone for jaywalking when they, in fact, murdered people in front of you.
ETA:
That says to me that I can go around threatening people, telling them they should be dead, assaulted, abused, etc... and that's all fine, but if I say a mean word, then I'm going to the naughty person room.

RE: Respecs.
Any respec, or indeed any dramatic change for a character, should have a basis in the game world's internal logic.
Your character started out as a writer and through the game has focused more and more on shooting a crossbow? Sure, respec to downgrade the writing and add more to the crossbow firing skill. But adding points to basketweaving probably doesn't make sense.

Possibly others!
Just because a mechanical system has respecs built in doesn't mean that it makes sense/is good for a continuous, populous, online game as opposed to a tabletop setting of a handful of people. So it's still worth discussing, even for those systems.

But for folks like me, the Evennia team, and @Kumakun who are investing in design for the next generation of platforms - I should hope so.
Sure. But if those future plans aren't aimed at us... why ask for our input? Not aiming this at you fara, but at the thread itself.
ETA: I'm all for making coder's and/or programmers' lives easier, so y'all do what you need to do on the backend to make that work for you. But if you want to include us in this bright new future you've envisioned, maybe don't make radical changes to the bits we use regularly. Make other stuff, sure, but don't penalise us for choosing what we prefer over what's new and fancy.

RE: NPC Roster
@Wretched said in NPC Roster:
The Idea is this: What if we handed that entire family, to Player ST's. Like take a huge set piece, that can affect the game, spheres and institutions of the game, that are all connected to a larger thing, and just hand it to the player base to run plots with. Differing and even clashing ideas from ST's can be family infighting. With a little structure built into it, but minimal staff interfearance.
I would argue that perhaps the family overlord (matriarch, patriarch, whatever) should be left in staff-only hands, if the intention is for the family to have a major impact on the metaplot. So staff still retains some executive control, but can be hands-off with the rest of the family as needed.

RE: What is your turning point?
I am exceptionally picky when it comes to long-term roleplay partners.
There needs to be some kind of chemistry there. Not in the romantic sense, but I need to feel totally comfortable throwing an idea at them and having them run with it. RP, as I see it, is an improv game. The minute you say "no" to a thing, is the minute I look at you warily. The more you say "yes, and" the better.
This is nothing to do with sexual or emotional roleplay. This is on the level of... yes you were at that event in my life, and here's what you did. That kind of deal.
I find those folks once in every dozen prospective RP partners.
