@rinel I have a friend in NO whose been prepping all week, and is trying to determine if he'll need to evac, and where to if so. I feel terrible for him since it doesn't look like there's really any good place TO go for him.

RE: Organix banned
@l-b-heuschkel And as an explanation, it dovetails with an apology and an honest attempt to better monitor oneself... or removal from the situation, whichever is deemed better for one's mental health.

RE: RL Sads
@solstice I recently received a diagnosis that included PTSD as well, and I agree, it's strange. We always think of PTSD being something that's for soldiers alone. But trauma can affect anyone. I'm still terrible at this, but please know that you aren't alone in your feelings and know that you are NOT your trauma, even if it feels like it right now. You are a whole person and you are valid.

RE: Roster Characters & WoD?
@ganymede said in Roster Characters & WoD?:
@derp said in Roster Characters & WoD?:
Your continuity goes all to hell as each and every person plays them in a different way because they don't actually give a shit about their story or history, they just don't wanna do the chargen work.
It's funny to me because this does not seem to be a huge issue on large games with a roster like, oh, Arx. I mean, sure, it has a host of attendant problems, but this really isn't one of them. And frankly, I think what you said before says more about World of Darkness players than about rosters.
To be fair, though, I'd probably allow every player to make 1 OC when they come on board. After that, like, do what you will, but if you hand-off your PC to an idle-out, like on most WoD games, that PC's fate is in staff's hands unless you give some sort of last-will instruction.
In regards to Arx, they actually had to recently make a statement and update to the rules that roster characters would have to be played for a certain amount of time before any large changes could be made specifically because people were picking up a character just long enough to kill off an idle spouse/HoH so they could be 'free' to play the character they wanted.... then the character would idle out within a month of the request being granted. Insert also 'scrape sheets for extra xp that could be sent to their main alt', 'make huge sweeping changes to their background/personality/etc.', 'scrap inventories for mats/empty bank accounts of saved gold or resources'.... like it became enough of an issue that staff had to make a new rule to keep people from doing it.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@macha I got lucky. REALLY lucky. The medical group that did my testing is all-female, and all of them have had at least one personal experience with not being taken seriously for medical concerns, be they mental or physical. My diagnosis meeting is the 18th and I'm nervous to find out exactly what they'll have found. Also relieved, because I will finally know.
But, I also still think that ADD/ADHD needs to be more of a spectrum than a firm yes/no. Simply because there are so many other disorders that tie into it and there's no One Way to have ADD/ADHD. So yeah, its likely being 'overdiagnosed' because a LOT of people are going to suffer from one or more of the disorders/neurodivergency that tie into ADD/ADHD. They don't have anything else to call it, so its labeled ADD/ADHD.

@macha Agreed! And yes, the early arrival is a leftover from pre-internet days where you had to go in and fill out paper forms everywhere. XD

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Anyone that's interested!
I have three keys for the Back 4 Blood beta! Same creators as Left 4 Dead, its a 4 person zombie shooter/survival game. Hit me up here or Discord (for those that have mine, anyways!).

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@macha So, technically, the 15 minutes early is if you need to fill out new patient paperwork, update your medical coverage, etc. What they NEED to do, is start asking those questions when they set the appointment and follow it up with IF any of these changes occur prior to your appointment OR you are a new patient, please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time prior to your appointment for us to add you into the system/update your information.

RE: Good TV
@il-volpe That's fine, I'm not super into anime, I just have some of them that I like and some that I can't watch.
-
RE: Good TV
@il-volpe There are a lot of anime where the actual animation is almost seamless and its beautiful to watch. But then there are the ones where you can tell the budget wasn't enough to do the artwork justice. And it bothers my brain to see it.
-
RE: Good TV
@solstice See, and I actually love anime. The artistic stylings used by most actual anime animators is pleasing to me. Its detailed and well-colored, the animation itself is smooth... its when I start seeing like... thick lines of the characters and then colors of the characters OUTSIDE THOSE THICKASS LINES and then they move but I can actually see the individual frames because they cheaped out on drawing the ACTUAL individual frames and really only did every 2nd or 3rd frame so the movement is choppy and uneven... it just... it bothers me SO MUCH.
-
RE: Good TV
@ganymede That is completely fair.
Edit to add!: I actually don't have an issue with She-Ra's visual style, it actually reminds me of Cowboy Bebop. I haven't watched She-Ra yet because my executive dysfunction can't decide which show I'm SUPER BEHIND on to catch up with first. XD But I will get there!
@derp I'm down for that. I've dumped three doctors in the last year because all of them have claimed I'm fat because 'I don't exercise enough'.... I work 13 hours shifts on my feet every other day. That's a LOT of time spent moving around, bending, turning, lifting, carrying, crouching, standing, walking.... now tell me again Dr. Oblivious why I'm fat? Not enough exercise? Improper diet? Uh huh.... thank you for your opinion, I will be seeking a new physician.
My diet consists largely of steak (cause I'm anemic too, whee!), pork, chicken breasts, green veggies like spinach (again, anemia suuuuuuuuuucks) and broccoli, almost 0 sugar (I use the occasional bit of honey or (even more rarely) cocount palm sugar, and I keep my carbs under 20% of the recommended DV. My blood panels come back so clean its scary (minus the anemia and D deficiency cause I work nights and the daystar is eeeeeeeeeeevil).
But I can't lose weight. Clearly I need to improve my diet and exercise more.

RE: Good TV
@ganymede I understand what you're saying, and I don't think you're wrong. But this is where the struggle lies. Part of my neurodivergency is an inability to connect with a story if the medium is off-putting. If my brain has decided that, say, Animaniacs, has a visual style that is repulsive? My brain will do everything it can to send out bad vibes to me to keep me from watching it. (Which is true. I can't watch the new Animaniacs, it triggers feelings of anxiety and anger) The show could have the best message in the world, but it won't matter because MY brain is saying 'this is wrong, this is bad, turn it off turn it off turn it OFF' and it will get progressively worse until I am so physically tense that I will lash out at someone verbally if they approach me. This happened.
So while I appreciate your saying to 'step out of my comfort zone'... sometimes my brain literally will not let me do that. And the attempt will really only make things worse for myself. I need something to be presented in a format that is either non-visual or that is visually appealing to me if I am going to get anything out of it. Not because I'm trying to be stubborn about it, but because my brain will literally overload me with negativity if I try to force it.
I also agree about the throat-punching. I am happily fat. I eat well, I exercise, and I'm still fat. My belly doesn't go away, and I'm okay with that.
