I don't mind that people enjoy FC's, I just prefer a game without them because then /everyone/ is the FC. Everyone is the star. And to many times have I seen OC's overshadowed (often brutally) by 'FC's'. Which is why original world for my game.

Also, I know I mentioned Aberrant earlier but I would be VERY careful about choosing it as a system. It can be clunky, unbalanced, and HYPER lethal. Which is fine if your game world supports that.

And in setting like Aberrant everyone being an OC is awesome. In the Marvel Universe I may want to be Iron Fist.

Now that I've got time again, I need to settle on a system and get back to coding instead of coding one system, then another, then another... and never finishing any of them.

As a note: Wild Talents was one of the systems that interested me, but, it seemed a system where it was easy to screw yourself if you didn't know the difference between regular, wiggle, and hard dice.

If you don't do Shadowrun 5E, don't bother!

If I am playing Superhero in an established world I enjoy being an FC.

I don't have time to rant about them right now, as I already made an EFFORT POST about Promethean, but I second Manu's love for Exalted, as well as suggest Shadowrun.

A pair of games people may not know so well that are getting new editions "soon"

Scion is a game about Mythology and the modern world. Scion lets you play the children of Gods from various historic Pantheons. At its base power level, it is mildly superhuman, maybe around the level of Xena: Warrior Princess. As the game released new supplements, they increased the power level to be more and more mythical, to the level of juggling battleships and smiting continents.

Trinity Continuum was a trio of games from White Wolf in the late 1990s. They cover three time periods and different settings and genres that are linked in being a single universe, told in reverse. It starts with Trinity, a Science-Fiction game of action and intrigue in the 22nd century where you play a Psion, specifically created psychics with the power to protect the human race from themselves, hostile aliens, and worst of all, the Aberrants. Aberrant is set in the dawn of the 21st century, and is a gritty take on superhumans. It is a game of hope and godlike power with a dark side of taint, the saviors of this era become the monsters of the next. Adventure! is set in the 1920s, and is the first birth of extraordinary individuals. It is Pulp action, globe trotting excitement.

    • RE: Trying Something Completely New

This is coming from a place of not knowing jack about the FC setting, so it will be vague.

The core story of Promethean is the Pilgrimage. You need to focus on that. And while in a more traditional game, the Pilgrimage covers a geographical trek, you may have certain Milestones that are required and you may want to have a way ahead of time for them to be met.

      To keep the Prometheans interesting:

      • Let them reach the end of their road. I cannot read Promethean often enough to remember all the terms because it makes me sad, but you should allow the newly Human prometheans to remain as PCs. This makes the Promethean intriguing to other supers who cannot escape their fate.
      • Use other Supernaturals as possible ways to learn about humanity. Allow the Refinement of Quicksilver especially.
      • Tie them to their Humanity. The Created are at once the most and least monstrous of all Supernaturals.Their behavior should be alien to most, but also eerily familiar.
      • Let them be badasses as they are able to be truly hardcore. Especially in the inferior 1st Edition of CofD, a Promethean can slug it out with a Kuruthing Uratha without much effort.
      • Allow as much crossover opportunity as a player wants, but don't force it. Ulgans can see spirits (and, IIRC, ghosts). Maybe the Quashilliman (sp) have ties to the Aether, and who knows how Azothic Items and relics interact, etc. Also, maybe steal the idea that a "dead" promethean has to traverse the underworld.

Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition Featuring the Strix Chonicles

This is, overall I feel, my current favorite RPG. Vampire is a game about human desire and inhuman ability. You don't play a human (unless you are playing a Ghoul, of course) but instead something simultaneously so much more and so much less than human. A creature with all too human foibles, but strength, power, immortality. The Kindred represent the cool, romantic, and tragic. They are violent, they are sexy.

The types of stories you can tell in VtR2EftSC are numerous. From romantic melodrama to political intrigue, visceral horror to unmitigated, savage violence.

The simplicity of the 5 Clans gives you 5 different aspects of the modern vampire legend. Beautiful, Savage, Secretive, Scary, and or Regal. Kindred start as humans cursed with undeath, which offers a freedom of story development. No vampire is the same, and yet they are all familiar.

I may just be rambling at this point, but tl;dr Vampire is legit.

    • Make us love your favorite game

Many of us love different games. I don't mean, in this sense, individual MUs, but the underyling RPGs published and used on them.

So what do you enjoy? And why? Make us love your favorite game. I will try and provide an example after I have actually had a meal today.

It would be important that death have some teeth, at least in my opinion. Otherwise risk becomes a farce, and the whole lifestyle is based on risk.

As a divergence, I have always believed that great shows have death front and center.

I grew up watching Transformers. The narrative changed when beloved Transformers began to die off; not just Optimus Prime, but also Brawl, Ironhide, Prowl, Ratchet, Windcharger, and Wheeljack (among the Autobots).

What made the short-lived Exo-Squad so good was that death was an overpowering theme in the series. It motivated J.T. Marsh and Nala Burns, which pushed the storyline. When they killed off Alec Deleon, I was all, like, WTF? Because he died in a rather inglorious way.

Death is a poignant thing. I cannot abide by storylines where no one of significance perishes over several "episodes," if they are calculated to be thrillers.

      Such heroic nonsense.

Oooh I am steamed right now.

As many of you may know, I work for the State of Maryland. On 1/22/2016, I had taken 8 hours of approved leave for my birthday. However, the governor ordered all state offices to close at 1PM, sending everyone home.

However, since my leave was pre-approved, I am still losing 8 hours of leave. Even though the office was closed.

Is Demon the Fallen not to your liking? You could probably also pull this off in Changeling or Mage 2E.

I'd play the shit out of a D:tF game.

Man in the high castle is a beautiful show with an interesting setting, amazing supporting cast and shit terrible protagonists. It is also very slow, so binging may be tough.
