RE: Good TV
I think the Game of Thrones episode had some of the best battle scenes I've seen on TV ever. Just following Jon Snow through the chaos of it was utterly exhilarating. Actually I'm struggling to remember any fantasy/historical show or even movie that's done a better job of it.
Well they did have the aid of very good CGI
My favorites:
Medieval - Braveheart
19th century - Zulu,. Charge of the Light Brigade
WWII - Saving Private Ryan, A Bridge Too Far
Modern - We were Soldiers, Black Hawk DownPS: I was thinking... "Ricken! Serpentine! Serpentine!"

RE: Chime's MOO thread
I have a bunch of old MOO stuff here:
ftp://ftp.sourcery.dyndns.org/archive/servers/tiny/moo/
The oldest code I could ever find was the 1.6.1 version from August 1992.
It has the RCS comments in it going back to 1990, but there is very little if any Tiny code in there or evidence of Stephen White's hand in it.This site has a lot more recent/semi-active links:

Rush Limbaugh's opinions do not matter to you, and they should not matter to others. The last bit is an opinion, but it is one that I will bet you can and would defend.
It's my opinion that everyone should listen to Rush. He's a lovable little fuzzball.

@Ganymede And some of them cause very real harm. Thanks to anti-vaxxers, we now have whooping cough, measles and several other childhood diseases we used to never see happen. Hooray outbreaks! All natural, 100% mother earth approved.
Of course, it's usually poor kids who die. But better to kill or cripple someone else's kid or your own kid than risk some imaginary side effect (Guess it's better to be dead than ~autistic~) made up by an asshole who faked a study and his medical license.
So ignorance can be incredibly dangerous.
“I am committed to make investments to find the causes of autism, including possible environmental causes like vaccines.” - Hillary Clinton
“We’ve seen just a skyrocketing autism rate. Some people are suspicious that it’s connected to the vaccines. This person included. The science right now is inconclusive, but we have to research it.” - Barrack Obama
I wouldn't be too hard on them. Bad science is not confined to "anti-vaxxxers". We've also been hit by the largest wave of immigration since the early 20th century, and a disproportionate number of cases involve them.

The average IQ is around 100. People as a whole /cannot/ think objectively, they don't have the capability or the desire to.
The median IQ is 100 and it will always be ~100 because IQ tests are normalized every few years.

RE: Where have all the crunchy games gone?
It's my guess that if you coded up or automated a system that is considered pretty crunchy on the table top (like RoleMaster or GURPS) it might not be at all crunchy on a mud/mush.

"Men walk this tightrope where any sign of weakness illicits shame, and so they're afraid to make themselves vulnerable for fear of looking weak." - Brene Brown
I think she's saying that it works, but she just doesn't like it.
And she spelled 'elicits' wrong. -

I think this article pretty much sums up the general viewpoint on telnet in the tech community these days.
One of the interesting aspects of this article and many like it is this section:
What Are The Security Implications Of Using Telnet?
You can replace Telnet there and in the following paragraphs with HTTP and the article is also correct. -
RE: Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes
This has been an excellent thread... well at least the first 120 posts I've read.

RE: Good TV
Amazon has picked up The Man in the High Castle for a 2nd season! Yay!

The character I hate the most is 'random chick with light hair and dark eyebrows'.
She's boring. Her eyebrows don't match her hair. It creeps me out.
Haha. I could never figure out why they didn't bleach her eyebrows. The impression I got from the books was that the Targaryens were almost albinos.

RE: Good TV
I just started watching Game of Thrones.
Am I in for a wild ride?
I'm enjoying this season more, perhaps because I have no clue what will happen.

RE: Do you RP to play a character, or get a character so you can RP?
@Ide
After reading the setting, I always come up with character concept that I want to play.
I can't play a feature character or some arbitrary character just to RP. -
RE: RL Anger
You know, in Ohio, people operate motorcycles with no helmets. Some even motor along I-75 in shorts and a tank top. Unsurprisingly, lots of motorcycle deaths around here.
Supposedly a doctor in an emergency room quipped, "Those who don't wear helmets we pronounce deceased, and those that do wear helmets we call quadriplegics".

RE: RL Anger
Or maybe, if there are people who aren't creeps at the table, the creeps could leave. That would be swell.
Sometimes that happens. Often it's women who boot other women from the table (or they don't get invited back), because part of the problem is getting women on board with their notions of sexism at the gaming table. But even beyond that, it's been my experience that women are the harshest critics of other women at the gaming table. Reading this forum, it might even reinforce that impression in regard to online role-playing.
All right, let's break this down.
You misunderstand. It's an endorsement not criticism. She doesn't require excuses.
Now sit down and shut the fuck up, you're embarrassing yourself.
I'd be embarrassed to post the above sentence.
