    • The OOC Masquerade ?

Back in the days of yore, it was something that we took very seriously. Staff was to code everything to keep the masquerade as secret as possible. But the trend toward openness has started -- we'll call it transparency. Is this something to even consider when starting a new project, or is it just something that is ok to break now-a-days. To some degree, I am in the camp of why bother with it anymore, but something, and I really don't know what, keeps me from just nuking it all together.

So what are the hive mind thoughts on this?

    • RE: Code/Object Security

There are a couple of ways to do this.

      • Create the object as a wiz-owned object, set it no_command, lock it down with use etc. Then have your +set command acknowledge that children of a certain parent object can be set as well as players. Set your stats. Then on the player's stat storage store the DBREF of the object, and have your stat pulling functions look at items on that list when pulling the stats together.

      • Option two is pretty much the same thing, but let the player create the object. Set it a specific parent when approved and add the DBREF to the list stored on their attributes. In this case, which it is already probably done, lock down the attributes globally that stats are stored on, to prevent twinkage.

      • You could take the time to code a virtual object system, which defeats your general overall question, but you could put in trade commands and such to allow them to pass around the attribute cluster between players. Or store the data on a global database and create an item identifier and use it like the DBREF above.

That's just my two cents on the options that I would probably take to resolve.

    • RE: Saving Pages to the Database

That's the thing, the Suspect flag logs it. The @snoop feature is live monitoring. As it comes across while the pages and stuff are happening. To me that's a big distinction, one is logged for later viewing if needed. The other is full on "snoop"ing.

Just throwing this out there, but RHOST already has something akin to this, sort-of, the @snoop feature which allows staff to view all activity of any player registered to them, including inputs and pages. That being said, people still play on RHOST servers. It really has to do with trust vs capability. If they trust the staff, it doesn't matter really what the staff can or cannot do.

So I learned of a reddit thread about strange facts, collected the ones I liked, and compiled them together.

I figured others might enjoy this too or have ones to add I don't already know.

Tomatoes were once thought to be poisonous

There is a book series that uses this as a core setting feature. A plague caused by tomatoes. So much so humans buy tomato products on the black market.

@Arkandel Well, I think the only way they could do it is as a Force Ghost. Especially considering the line "No one is ever really gone." before. So.. ymmv, but I'm guessing Glowy Palpatine.

Because everyone would complain how OP Sub-Zero is and that player gets all the wins and is in all the stories and games.

But there is more than one "Sub-Zero" as he was part of a clan of Ice Users. So.. Everyone could be OP.

    • Changeling and Touchstones

Maybe my Google-Fu is weak, or just search in general. But the rule says the first touchstone goes in the Comp+1 from the left box, does this touchstone change position as the Character increases their Comp or is it static? I can't seem to find any reference for it, or maybe I'm overlooking it. Thoughts?

Co-Workers who wear their emotions on their sleeves and just because they get told to stay out of where they shouldn't be to begin with, they run cry not to the boss, but the boss' boss' boss' (Yes, jumped three levels.) Then they expect everyone to bow down and cater to them because they will "Tell on you and you know it now." God I hate these people.

Volund has a system that works sort of like that way. It'll log stuff to sql and then allow them to copy it into a log page. It's not quite automatic, but it works.

    • RE: 80s Style Masters of the Universe/Thundercats/Visionaries Game...

@killer-klown I would never describe BESM as simplistic. There are power variables and such; you could have three characters take the power Force Fields, and every last one have a variant that is unlike each other, with only the base concept of the power being the same. For example: Force Fields that only protect other people, Force Fields that only work while stationary, force fields that work only at range, Bigger area of protection Force Fields, etc. That's one of the simple ones, Special Attacks and Weapon Attacks get complex as well by adding special abilities. Then Alternate Forms etc. It can get insanely complex. Third Edition even introduces the concept of Power Sets. etc. It is a great system I love, but it has more crunch than a certain Cap'n we all know from breakfast.

Cartoon Action Hour RPG works great for this genre of games. It is built to run like an 80s cartoon.

I left because of disagreements with staff on things within the game. Granted, I did not express my displeasure, but I didn't really think it mattered because I wasn't part of the "Kool Kids" aka "Majority Rulez". I've classified this game as a pure sandbox, which is a shame, because it had such potential.
