I haven't played any other genres in a while but, at least with supers, you have many of the same players playing on multiple supers games. Sometimes they play as different characters, sometimes the same exact one. Regardless, having a character on every supers game currently running is not unusual. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

      I'll make a comparison.

I played on Modern Nights, a recent V20 game. It had a lot of options and a lot of potential. But there were no wikis, and the players weren't really talking to one another online. It was hard to find RP most nights, and I did not have the ability to sift through wikis to even see where I might have a tie or two. Yes, there was code available to guide me towards folks that my PC may have known, but that's a far cry from being able to browse at leisure.

Contrast this with Echoes in the Mist. That game had a wiki, but you didn't have to reveal your stats if you didn't want to. Even the most basic information -- Clan, Covenant -- was enough to help me figure it if it would make sense that my PC would bump into another. That made me feel more comfortable reaching out for RP.

Aside from Ares-based games, I don't know of or haven't played on games which allowed all-but-full disclosure of stats. Whether an OOC masquerade is purposeful I think largely depends on the kind of game you want to run, but I prefer games with player wiki pages.

From what I gather of this thread on the OP Forums:

Clarity works like Health instead of Integrity in how it's tracked. Your Clarity track is equal to your Composure + Wits, and your first Touchstone goes at Composure + 1 from the left with extra's going to the right.

On the sheet, for space I guess, the Touchstone section is placed vertically. In this case up is left, and down is right.

So if you have Composure 3/Wits 3 and bought two extra Touchstones:

      You have 6 Clarity boxes.

Ignore 7 - 11 on the Touchstone list.

Your first Touchstone goes on the 3 spot (Composure + 1 = 4, so it's the fourth slot down), the second on the 2 spot, and the third on the 1 spot.

If you take 4 severe Clarity damage, your first Touchstone becomes detached until you can heal the damage.

If you buy Composure 4, stop ignoring the 7 slot, but it remains blank. It just means it takes 5 severe Clarity damage before you detach on.

If you buy Wits 4 instead, shift everyone up one, so the 7 slot matters now, but your first Touchstones moves to 4, and you now have a blank spot at 1 (which you could fill with another Touchstone). 4 severe Clarity damage with still detach your first one.

So, the more Composure you have, the more severe Clarity damage you can take before Touchstones become threatened. The more Wits you have, the more Touchstones you can manage at once.

I believe the policy also says that nobody can start at Tier 4 at this time, so that closes the gap a bit too. You can spend boatloads of xp and still be relatively supernaturally inept. It depends more on focus than quantity of xp, IME.

@Seamus said in Alternate Forms and Stat Stacking?:

      &RP`0`attr`001 db=Appearance &rp`0`attr`001`rank db=3 &rp`1`attr`002 db=Appearance &rp`1`attr`002`rank db=2

Let me make the suggestion again based on this.

      &form: 001 002

      To display a specific attribute:

      &display.attribute.one-line: \\ %0: sheet dbref \\ %1: attribute number cat( get( %0/rp`%1`attr`001 ):, ladd( iter( get( %0/form ), get( %0/rp`%1`attr`%i0`rank ))) )

That should do it. Pardon typos as I'm doing this in the board editing window.

      Hope that helps.

@Bobotron I otherwise really like oWoD Werewolf. The one thing I don't is the same as its 2.0 equivalent; it's very dependent on having plots available. The whole game is dependent on PvE conflict for everything, from character advancement to its basic theme, but someone needs to run the bad guys.

And that's a premium resource on MU*.

      Ashen-Shugar

@Tinuviel said in PennMUSH & DBREFs:

@Ashen-Shugar Would this depend primarily on the type of compression they use? Or is it simply a side effect of a large database?

I honestly wish I could answer this, but I really don't have one.

I've not tore apart PennMUSH at that level and ran it through any sort of performance analysis.

I'd first really want to run it through something like valgrind just to see where all the allocations and deallocations were occuring.

This could be nothing more than poorly managed memory, but again, without really digging into the code and tagging it with a performance engine debugger all I can do is speculate.

@Seamus I can only say how I am doing San Francisco.

I am focusing on the important parts.

What important parts? You may ask...

The ones important to the theme and story of the game.

For me that's The Presidio, it's Golden Gate Park, it's Alcatraz, It's Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, it's also Chinatown, the Aquarium, and a tiny bit of downtown.

Trying to map out an entire city is just silly, it's never going to all be used, so make what you're going to use.

This should not be hard, depending on how much you want to differentiate.

@descformat on a parent for descs
@conformat on a parent for people
@exitformat on a parent for exits

Mind you, it won't hide things from the hardcoded 'examine' or just doing lexits(). But the question is, do you really need that level of hiding?

For the standard interactions, just @hook/override SAY, EMIT, POSE. Or, use a parented @lock/interact, though players might override that if they know about it.
@lock some exits if you really need to.

Oh, I'm aware. I'm also coming at this WoD MU* design thing from someone who has never had this issue in a MUSH before (plenty of Transformers games and such where <Stealth> tags was a thing, and noone metagamed in a bad way) and freely admit that my WoD experience has really never been a MU*, though I've dealt with some of this in LARP. Plus I'm an avid fan of actual punishment for cheating and bad metagaming. It's served me well in weeding out people who do that shit in LARP.
