Hey, not everything is for everybody right? That's why I hesitate to call Discovery bad really, it's just not for me. I don't mind Seth McFarlane myself but I can certainly see how others might have an issue with his writing. I'm just glad both shows seem to be flourishing. The last time we had something like this (dark and gritty BSG up against Enterprise) Enterprise got destroyed and cancelled.

RE: Could a MC2 or Heroic Age Supers Game Work?
I think something like his would work great. I would keep the continuity to Marvle only though. I think a game just set in the Marvel universe but OC only could work too if you set it outside of New York City. Do a Los Angeles game and focus on the heroes and villains that thrive there or something.

RE: What's missing in MUSHdom?
@Seraphim73 For me one of the great things about 5E is how easy it is to level up. There may be fewer options but that makes leveling up a breeze, quick and easy. And I personally did not feel like it it cost anything in terms of versatility or variance.
@ixokai The PDFs are out there...if you look. I don't want to post a pirate link but a simple google search will throw up a huge repository now-a-days. The good thing is they don't churn out the books like they use to. You get maybe 1 or 2 a year, which works GREAT for people like me who don't have the money to toss away on a ton of books a year.
I also think the system would translate fairly well to a MUX, which is something I've been slowly working on over the past year or so. Hoping to have something to test out very soon on that front.

Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
I’m trying to take a measured approach to getting Whispers open but I cannot deny that additional help would be greatly appreciated. I know some people offered to help out in my initial thread but I thought I’d make an official post about what I’m working on, what is finished, and what remains to be done.
Code: I’m all set on code. I coded all of the systems and can code anything that we may need in the future. I have no need for any sort of code help at this time.
Building: This is the big one. I could really use some help building the grid. Based on feedback in the other thread I think this can be broken down into global rooms and hangouts. If there were people willing to take up the tasks of building the global grid (Sleepy Hollow itself) and various hangouts/RP spots that would move this along tremendously. I’m not looking for anything grand in either department. The global grid probably does not need to be more than 15-20 rooms and each hangout/rp spot likely only needs to be 1-3 rooms each. I’m also planning on utilizing a temporary room code so that players can add on as needed.
Plots: This will be more of an “after we open” sort of thing but I’d like to get some people on who are willing to run regular scenes for people. I’m a big supporter of player run plots and firmly believe that players should have the ability to motivate their own RP. As such I won’t be expecting much from my plot staff, if they can run 1 scene a week I’ll be happy.
Help Staff: Another “after we open” sort of thing but I’d love to have some people who can answer player questions regarding theme, the unisystem, or whatever.
Right now most of the code is done and I have a wiki set up at wikidot.com for things like theme information and information regarding the unisystem (everything needed to know is on the wiki in regards to the system). What I really need help with is in the building area.
If anyone is interested in helping out in any of the above areas just send me a PM and we’ll talk. Thanks!

RE: Good or New Movies Review
I enjoyed The Force Awakens for what I felt it was supposed to be, a soft reboot of the franchise. A way for new people to enter without needing to have watched the older movies. I thought it paid tribute to the past while embracing the future.
My problem with The Last Jedi is I felt it discarded the past with a big middle finger.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
@Bad-at-Lurking I think that's a great idea. I briefly ran a similar game once(though it just combined Buffy, Supernatural, and Highlander) that used the Cinematic Unisystem.

A Game of Thrones MUX Discussion
I know, another damn lords and ladies game. Before continuing I'll preface the rest by saying my wife has watched me MU for 20 years now and is suddenly showing an interest in trying it herself. She'd like to try a Game of Thrones game but those that are out there don't interest me and seem to intimidate her so I was thinking about doing either a private or semi-public game set in the GoT universe.
The game would use the A Song of Ice and Fire RPG by Green Ronin Games and it'd be set in a time period where the characters from the books/tv show wouldn't even be a thought. Before I got started setting stuff up though I thought I'd fish around with some questions about what some people might like to see in a game of this nature.
- Custom houses. I think this would be one of the biggest draws to a game, getting a few people together and creating your own house. The RPG has fantastic rules for this. Would people actually use such a system?
- Setting. The game needs to be political, sure, but it could be Big Political or Little Political. By Big Political I mean setting it in some place like King's Landing and allowing all types of characters from all over Westeros and beyond. By Little Political I mean setting it in one specific location (Casterly Rock, say) and focus on the politics of that region. This would obviously have an impact on what custom houses were available.
- Ready-made characters. Would having a +roster filled with characters that players could just do a small app for be worth investing time in? It seems to work on other places but I don't play on those places so I'm unsure.
- Sticking to canon. This is something I don't really care much about. I figure we start the game and not worry about if what we do would prevent the game from eventually leading into the books or whatever. Do what we want and have fun telling our story, not worry about the story that GRR Martin will eventually tell. Would this be a deal breaker for fans of the theme?
Anyway, just some thoughts and questions I had. Like I said, it may lead to either a private or semi-public game if there's any interest from people checking it out. I was just curious what, if anything, people might be looking for that may be missing from current games in the L&L/GoT niche. Thanks.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@derp This is a peeve of mine because it's this line of thought that leads to people texting and driving. I've lost friends both to people who thought they could multitask and because of people who thought they could multitask like this.
And if I'm talking to someone who is looking at their phone instead of me? Yes, I do consider that rude.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
Yeah, I'm a big fan of the Unisystem. Usually, all you have to do is house rule a limit on Dexterity and it brings most of the problems it might have right under control.

RE: Interest Check: Ancient Greek RP
@Bad-at-Lurking In the RPG that's limited to the gods. They can absorb the divine power of the fallen gods to increase their own power. Since most heroes possess a spark of that divine power it's hinted that it's possible they could too but the RPG avoids it to keep power levels fairly reasonable.

RE: StargateMUSH
I guess that's my general problem, I feel I have "weird hours". I can be around for web stuff most any time. For in-person scenes my best times are Sunday nights, Mondays any time, and Tuesdays any time. Sundays during the day and Saturday may be spotty but doable.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
Jack Black has surprised me in a few movies lately. I watched Goosebumps on a dare but actually very much enjoyed it.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
@Bad-at-Lurking I may have one somewhere but it's coded for TinyMUX and I'd honestly suggest doing a game like this in Ares. You wouldn't have online c-gen or +rolls but you'd still have the web-based scene system, which is amazing.

@Cobaltasaurus What @Shincashay said.

RE: The Woodward Agency
@krmbm As an honest criticism, as someone who lives in Maine, this actually takes me right out of it. Even more so than "cryptoids". The concept of a city large enough to support 1 million people in this state just asks too much from the concept of suspension of disbelief for me.
In my opinion, if you want to set a game in a city that can support a million people...set it in a state where it makes sense. That's just the singular opinion of a random dude on the internet though, so who cares?

RE: Good or New Movies Review
The movie Mom and Dad starring Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair was amazingly good, IMO. It's billed as a horror-comedy blend but it plays it all pretty straight. The movie may not be for everyone, though, as it does depict pretty graphic violence against both women and children. I thought it was a pretty smart movie though, I very much enjoyed it.
As for the stars, you get what you expect from Nicolas Cage. You either like him or you don't, nothing here is going to change that. Selma Blair, however, blew me away.
Anyway, if you're looking for a different take on the "zombie" or "mass psychosis" genre and don't mind violence against women and children I highly recommend this movie.

RE: Old Republic Star Wars Game - FFG System Poll
Hmm. Just to touch on some things briefly...
Space Battles: Would not be Star Wars without them!
Savage Worlds: Hmmm. I had similar concerns to be honest about the FFG system. Savage Worlds is an option too(I love me some Savage Worlds).
Old Republic: I think this is just about the best "era" for a Star Wars game. It gives a ton of creative freedom and allows for all the Jedi you want.Lots to think about! Thanks a lot!

This thread got me to check out the City of Mist game. The more I read about it the more I dig it.

Star Wars: Force and Destiny MUX
This is one of the projects I'm currently working on an it has hit a point where I'm comfortable looking for outside help to start moving into the next phase.
I've recently finished the first stage of coding, the character generation system, and I'm looking to move into the next phase (hammering out the final theme, starting the grid building, and debugging the c-gen system). I've got some help already but I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone else is interested.
The game is looking to be set just after Episode IV and the destruction of the Death Star. It's going to focus on a small "Jedi" temple that was established at the end of the Clone Wars by a Jedi that escaped Order 66. I put Jedi in quotes because the Jedi that founded it vanished after feeling they made a mistake in founding the temple leaving the students largely to fend for themselves and find their own way.
The themes I'm looking to explore are survival (the planet is a savage world filled with predators and what not), persecution (they are fugitives from the Empire after all), and exploring the force and what it means to be a Jedi (no one at the temple has ever been fully trained as a Jedi so they're finding their own way and perhaps rethinking what it means to be a Jedi).
If there is interested I'd actually like to set up a second sphere centered around smugglers, bounty hunters, and things like that (Edge of the Empire stuff).
Anyway, those are the thoughts for a a theme but they may change as we evolve. I have a few people helping me now but I could always use people who like to build or who would like to lend a hand once we go live. I'd really like a few people willing to maybe run scenes once or twice a week, some people willing to familiarize themselves with the FFG system for app reviews, and some general newbie helpers who would be willing to make new players feel welcome and help them navigate the system.
I have someone working on a wiki now. So if interested feel free to PM me and we can talk. I won't be giving out the game address publicly yet because it's really not ready for people to just pop on to as it is just 2 OOC rooms and the character generation rooms but I can give it out privately to interested parties.
Thanks.
