I work in a hospital and nothing burns my ass more than listening to a nurse advise parents not get their kids vaccinated. It drives me crazy.

RE: Interest Gauge: City of Mist Game
I just ordered the rule book. Seriously, the more I read about this game the more I like. It's like Marvel Comics had a kid with Ravenloft and it was raised by The Dresden Files.

RE: Good Horror Games?
I'm not sure what qualifies as good by your standards but here are a few games that I know about. All of them run on Ares.
Obsidian Reverie - Chronicles of Darkness 2e. I think they used to do their sheets via google docs. Not sure if that's still the way.
Doomed - A Buffy game that uses FS3. They do allow FCs, which may or may not be a deal breaker for you.
Then there's obviously Gray Harbor and Spirit Lake but I think those are more supernatural based than horror.
I know of a few games in development. Another Buffy game and a game that is meant to embody the spirit of Gothic dramas like Dark Shadows and Vampire Diaries.
Hope those help!

Star Wars: Force and Destiny MUX
This is one of the projects I'm currently working on an it has hit a point where I'm comfortable looking for outside help to start moving into the next phase.
I've recently finished the first stage of coding, the character generation system, and I'm looking to move into the next phase (hammering out the final theme, starting the grid building, and debugging the c-gen system). I've got some help already but I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone else is interested.
The game is looking to be set just after Episode IV and the destruction of the Death Star. It's going to focus on a small "Jedi" temple that was established at the end of the Clone Wars by a Jedi that escaped Order 66. I put Jedi in quotes because the Jedi that founded it vanished after feeling they made a mistake in founding the temple leaving the students largely to fend for themselves and find their own way.
The themes I'm looking to explore are survival (the planet is a savage world filled with predators and what not), persecution (they are fugitives from the Empire after all), and exploring the force and what it means to be a Jedi (no one at the temple has ever been fully trained as a Jedi so they're finding their own way and perhaps rethinking what it means to be a Jedi).
If there is interested I'd actually like to set up a second sphere centered around smugglers, bounty hunters, and things like that (Edge of the Empire stuff).
Anyway, those are the thoughts for a a theme but they may change as we evolve. I have a few people helping me now but I could always use people who like to build or who would like to lend a hand once we go live. I'd really like a few people willing to maybe run scenes once or twice a week, some people willing to familiarize themselves with the FFG system for app reviews, and some general newbie helpers who would be willing to make new players feel welcome and help them navigate the system.
I have someone working on a wiki now. So if interested feel free to PM me and we can talk. I won't be giving out the game address publicly yet because it's really not ready for people to just pop on to as it is just 2 OOC rooms and the character generation rooms but I can give it out privately to interested parties.
Thanks.

Random Idea - Multi-Themed MUX
So as I sit here 3d printing a Sword of Omens from Thundercats I'm once again shocked that there has only ever been 1 Masters of the Universe game and none for the likes of Thundercats. I was whining about this to an online friend and she reminded me of an idea I had been exploring a while ago. A place called Realms MUX. This would be a place where people could go and create their own mini-games to play on. The game itself would provide an overall infrastructure (obviously the game would be hosted there, a base system would be available for all games to use, a nexus for getting to these mini-games, etc) and then players could create, well, whatever they wanted.
Our plan was for it to perhaps be a haven for places that don't get much love but you could do whatever you wanted. It'd be a place where you could set up a game to scratch that little itch that may not be worth investing an entire game to. Or to try out an idea to see if it's worth expanding into something else. The only rule might be 'no stepping on toes'. So if you have an idea for a Buffy game but one already exists...you can't make your Buffy game. At least till the one that is currently on the MUX closes.
There are some logistical problems (naming conventions, wiki sites for the mini-games, etc) but I always thought it was an interesting idea. I just wasn't sure if it would be viable.
This seem interesting to anyone else but me?

RE: Why are there so many MUs set in Maine?
My best guess is Stephen King, Lovecraft, and Dark Shadows. Beyond those two points, there's nothing you can do here in Maine that couldn't be done in Massachusetts or Vermont(well, no ocean) or even New Hampshire.

RE: Star Wars: Force and Destiny MUX
They're coming. I don't want to give an ETA because we're still way too early for that but things are coming along.
Character generation is nearing completion and I think I have a first draft of the theme just about done. So we're moving along. Once character generation is done I think things will start moving at a brisker pace. It's a lot of data input right now as I get all the specializations and species in.

RE: Dead Celebrities 2019
Yeah, I guess I should clarify. It's not that I was never a fan of his, I was just never a fan of 90210. I did dig him in the original Buffy. Now I think I'll go watch Riverdale. So sad.

MuxMadness and the games hosted there...
So the other day my MU hosting server suffered some kind of attack that did serious and apparently permanent damage to the OS I was running (debian). It is, at the very least, beyond my ability to repair.
As such I'm going to be shutting the server down. Unfortunately, as of yet, I have been unable to make backups of any of the MUs I have hosted there. None of the commands seem to work any more, I just get errors ranging from memory to "proc not installed". I'm going to recover whatever I can, even if it's just the raw netmux.db files, and store them in the hopes that they can be recovered somehow.
So if you're one of the games that was hosted on my server (Saturnine Dreams, Pulp Age, DC After Dark, Changing Breeds, or whoever else) and would like a copy of whatever I'm able to recover just let me know and I'll send along what I have.

RE: Mortal Kombat MUX
I think a modified version of the old Street Fighter system might work fairly well. In the end it broke down into a card based system anyway and everyone is familiar with the WoD style attributes. For shits and giggles I'm throwing together a combat system just to see how smooth it plays.

RE: Infinite Adventures 2.0
@headery We've had some issues with people being forwarded to a non HTTPS version of the site. I've updated the link to hopefully prevent that.

RE: RL Anger
@Testament My thoughts are with you man. I hope you find out some good news at the vets and you get several more happy years with your friend. Good luck.

RE: MSB, SJW, and other acronyms
@Insomnia Absolutely, I agree 100%. It also unfortunately gives an edge to the more level headed but still rude passive aggressive types over the maybe less level headed but possibly better meaning and less eloquent types. Thus we're back to the damned if you do and damned if you don't.

RE: The All-New Down With OPP Thread
For what it's worth, it's on my game that some folk think he's popped up on. I managed to get DWOPP's IP from another game he's been banned on, they don't match.
Not definitive, obviously, but a strike against falling skies and impending doom.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
Went and saw it and my experience was "meh". It just felt like something they had to do so they could get to stuff they REALLY wanna do. Not a terrible movie overall but, IMO, one of the weaker Marvel movies(above the likes of Thor Dark World or Iron Man 3 but way below Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers: Infinity War).

RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)
I don't have the PDF and I don't think I'll be getting it as I ordered through Game Kastle and they don't mention the PDF at all. I'm glad to hear it sounds good though. Weird sex restrictions aside.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@Ghost @Thenomain I really liked Ben as Batman. I think they could have done a lot with him had they decided to put in any sort of character depth to explain why he was so violent.

RE: Star Wars Stand Alone - Staff Sought
We haven't played the game in a while(which makes me sad) so forgive me if I'm a bit off on the mechanics.
Scene 1: We were playing Edge of the Empire. Our characters were in a cantina and all hell broke loose. Our characters all scrambled and my wife's character, a Twi'lek bounty hunter, decided to jump up into the rafters of the bar. Well she succeeded but generated a lot of strain in the process. So we asked as a group, why would she gain all that strain climbing up into the rafters? And one player commented about how the character had "packed on some pounds in the downtime" so started the "fat Twi'lek" meme at our table. My wife embraced this and future physical related strain were rationalized by her being a bit out of shape.
Scene 2: Same characters on another adventure. One of the characters, a smuggler, tried to charm a waitress in another cantina. She failed but generated a lot of opportunities. The GM decided that she failed at a normal charm but decided that the waitress had become completely enamored and obsessed with the character and a new NPC was introduced into the game for future complications.
There are other minor things. You can use opportunities to create gun jams in enemies or use opportunities to set up cool collaborations. It's a neat mechanic but you do have to embrace it. Some times things would get a bit stagnant at our table and people would just use opportunities to heal strain or use the negative symbols to cause strain without rationalizing it. In the end it is a mechanic but it's one that can be used by creative people to really liven up a standard RP encounter.
