That sounds crazy awesome and I'd be more excited if it wasn't Onyx Path. They say 2021 but given their track record, we'll see it sometime in 2030.

I guess that's my general problem, I feel I have "weird hours". I can be around for web stuff most any time. For in-person scenes my best times are Sunday nights, Mondays any time, and Tuesdays any time. Sundays during the day and Saturday may be spotty but doable.

    • RE: Learning Ruby for Ares

I found deciding on something to achieve and then just working to achieve that thing. Like I wanted to be able to have 9 stats and be able to view and set those stats. So that's what I worked on first.

In addition to Ruby tutorials I would highly recommend digging into some existing plugins to see how an established coder does things. I learned a lot by deconstructing the Cortex and FFG plugins when working on my own.

      RE: Dracula

That really bums me out. I just finished the second episode and now I'm not sure if I even want to watch the 3rd ep. I was iffy on the first ep(many parts came off more like a parody to me than a reimagining) but the second episode was really good, IMO. Bah.

    • RE: Legends of the Old Republic - In Progress Star Wars Game

My intention is to make the game as easy to slide into as possible. The Mandalorian Wars(and subsequent Jedi Civil War) is just a catalyst to get to the core of the theme; rebuilding. We're going to steal a lot from the Clone Wars(which The Old Republic does quite liberally anyway) to make the game more approachable to those who may not be familiar with anything Old Republic related. Imagine The Mandalorian with Jedi as another broken faction rebuilding and questioning what it means to be a Jedi.

You could probably watch the cinematic trailer for The Old Republic MMO and be right where you need to be. At least that's my hope.

We're using Savage Worlds. My intent is to make things as simple as possible with The Force likely just being an arcane background. I'll go through the powers list to make sure all the "Jedi-like abilities" are there and add any that may be missing. Still pondering how to handle the dark side in a "fast and furious" manner.

Code is taking priority right now over theme so I don't have that locked down yet. The planets will be original creations and they'll be a Nightsister-like group of force users.

It's just easier to see who is part of the conversation. I think channels could work too I just prefer the OOC Room myself. Mostly. Since transitioning to Ares channels have gained a lot more strength since they can be accessed via the web portal.

I'm all for the OOC Room. Honestly, I don't think it encourages anything except social interaction. If people aren't going to play they're not going to play. If there's no OOC room they'll either idle IC in a private room or just not log onto the game. I've seen too many ideas spring from OOC Room chatter to not include them on my games.

    • RE: Trinity Continuum Chat

@tragedyjones What I did for my Aberrant take on the system was eliminate paths entirely and give it a more "classic" feel. Players got X amount of points to spend on attributes, Y on skills, etc and so on. I wanted to make things as simple for people as possible. It meant no XP breaks for path skills or edges but nobody that we played with seemed to mind.

The StoryPath system is the first actual system that I think could do pretty much anything and do it well without needing a lot of setting rules and guidelines. I haven't played it extensively but what I have played of it has been really smooth.

    • RE: Trinity Continuum Chat

I love the StoryPath System. I may not be a fan for how certain things are implemented(I think character generation is needlessly complicated) but it's very easily fixed. As a side thing I've been tinkering with a version of the Aberrant line for Ares. The players who have toyed around with have have mostly loved it.

My only real issue with Trinity: Continuum or Aberrant is the character generation process. To a lesser extent, equipment as well. It seems a little needlessly complicated to create an Iron Man type. Thankfully the system is robust and hardy enough that it can easily withstand a few house rules to bring things in order.

I think the Pitch Meetings have gone downhill over the past year or so but they're still pretty amusing. They're obviously parodying unlike the Everything Wrong WIth series which just nitpick and mock. I

I could be off on this(which is why things aren't nailed down yet, I need to go back and confirm dates and what not) but I think The Mandalorian Wars ended when Revan defeated Mandalore and founded a new Sith Empire. The Mandalorian Wars lasted around 16 years I think. This led directly into the Jedi Civil War(Darth Revan and his new Sith Empire against the Jedi and Galactic Republic). This lasted around 5 years, I think, and ended with the destruction of the Star Forge.

What I like about this is that there's been 20 years of nearly non-stop war. It opens the door for a lot of possibilities centered around the tragedy of war, rebuilding, loss, and what it means to live in this new era. Plus, a new Sith threat looming on the horizon(which will be unique to our game).

      I hope this helps!

So I went and saw RoS for the second time and I thought I'd post my thoughts on it.

      ***=Spoilers***

      click to show

I felt entertained for the full 2 and a half hours of the movie. There weren't any scenes that I strongly disliked or hated. I had a good time and did not feel like I had wasted either my time or money. I think, ultimately, that's all we can expect from a movie(or any form of entertainment). We might be hope for more but I think that's about all we can realistically expect.
When I think about the things I didn't like they mostly boil down to personal preference and how I would have liked the story to be told. Abrams can't be held responsible for that.
That's not to say the movie was perfect, but what movie is? I think most of the negative aspects are minor or nitpicky. Sure, people could(and will) dedicate entire YT videos to tearing the movie apart, but that's true of any movie.
My only serious complaint is the title of the movie. I just don't feel like The Rise of Skywalker fits. Especially given that the entire Skywalker line is wiped out and supplanted by the Palpatine line.
In the end I feel RoS is a movie that was good but not great. I'll watch again I'm just not chomping at the bit to watch it again.

Edited because apparently using the spoiler tag is hard...

I intend on changing the end of the Jedi Civil war a bit to better lead into our theme. I'm also hoping it sends a message that we're veering from canon so don't expect what has come before to come again here. I haven't decided exactly how I'm going to rework things but that is my intention.

    • RE: Legends of the Old Republic - In Progress Star Wars Game

My intention is to allow as much as we can. It'll be set a few years after the end of the Mandalorian Wars so there may be a bit of a stigma attached with the armor but that's about it. I haven't hammered out the exacts of the timeline just yet but it'll be set after the destruction of the Star Forge.

As for dealing with so-called "experts" I'm going to make it very clear that we are forging our own timeline and doing things our own way on the game. The source material should inspire creativity without being needlessly restrictive.

I also think there are a lot of people who focus on the extreme minorities in these situations. I think most people fall into a moderate middle. I've never actually met someone who said "Director X ruined Star Wars. I've thrown all my Star Wars stuff away." I've spoken to people who have said, "I don't care for Director X's movies and I tend not to watch them" or something similar.

Also, let's be clear; Star Wars fans didn't drive anyone off of social media. A vocal minority raised a ruckus(including certain YouTube channels who thrive off of controversy and discontent). Again, I think most people fall into a moderate middle where they may have said "I don't get the character but that's not the actresses fault".

I think the novels are a great example of this on a larger scale. Some novels I've read and love. Others I have not(including the entire Young Jedi Knights series). The novels I did not care for did not impact my enjoyment of the other novels or my enjoyment of potential future novels by other authors. There are enough novels(and movies and comics) that the things I like and dislike just create a palette of things I watch or read. With the new trilogy, for instance, I don't care for TLJ but I'll probably watch TFA and ROS on a fairly regular basis.
