Iron Kingdoms does also have a couple of RPGs out for it too. Iron Kingdoms and Iron Kingdoms Unleashed. I played in an Unleashed campaign and it was INSANE. Insane in a good way though.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
I get that as well. I like the idea of c-gen tiers and alternate incentives (possibly in the forms of background dots or something; territory, cool retainers, or unique items).

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
What I'm leaning more and more towards is tiers of starting characters so players can choose what they want to do. Young and up and coming with the greatest ability to gain XP, mid level with modest starting XP and gain, or end level with 60 flat XP and never gaining any again. This way players can choose how they want to play. That's what I'm thinking but we'll see. I'd still need to hammer out the exacts.

Yeah, that is looking like it might be the fairest way to approach things.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
Well I'd argue that if you're only RPing for XP than there's something wrong to begin with. I RP for fun, XP and advancement is connected to that but not my driving goal for RP.
I think having tiers of play could help with the dinosaur problem and maybe diminishing XP gain as a character progresses through those tiers till you just stop gaining XP entirely (60XP? 70?)
Granted, I come primarily from superhero games where I've played the same version of a character for years. I get the wanting a character to grow and expand but if you ONLY rp to get that XP then...I dunno. I think you're doing something wrong.
I'd rather find a balance so players don't feel overshadowed by other players than commit to a system that just feeds the XP hunger machine.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
So one of the things I'm seeing here is weekly XP vs participation XP. Some like weekly XP because they just don't have time to spend playing non-stop to keep up with the, well we'll call them the hardcore gamers.
What about capped participation XP? Like you can earn up to 2 XP a week or something by participating in scenes?

Heh, I don't know about that but I do potentially like the idea of tiered XP levels. We shall see.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
I see what you're saying. Hmmm. A lot to think about. I like the ideas though.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
That's a good idea. I've just found that XP goes a long ways in 2E. 35-40XP just seems like a lot. I do like the idea of trying out some sample characters to see what feels good for starting XP.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
That is true. I guess my worry would be the people who would just be like "Well, 10XP is not enough so I guess I'm just not gonna play there." I'm also a fan of options but I do get what you're saying and, for the most part, I agree entirely.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
Yeah, I'm the same. I like to have ample room to grow. What about allowing players to choose an XP tier when they create their characters?
Young and Hungry: Can start with 10 XP with incentives. Gets the most XP / week.
Old and Experienced: Starts with 25XP + 10 XP potential with incentives. Gets fewer XP per week.Could maybe expand it to three tiers. Eventually the lower tiers would catch up to to the higher tiers with everyone eventually at the final tier with the slow trickle of XP.

RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
What kind of starting XP and progression would you suggest?
-
RE: POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
I honestly think most games give WAY too much XP to beginning characters. I think none to start but incentives in c-gen to get up to 10 would be reasonable.

I am going to have to check out that Wicked City series. I love dark and gritty novels. Thanks!

POLL: Vampire Requiem 2E Settings/Theme
Bored at work and pondering Vampire Requiem 2E stuff and thought I'd make a poll based off comment in another thread. Specifically looking to see what type of setting people might like to play in. As always, this is just for fun though who knows what the future holds.
The game would be straight Vampire the Requiem 2E with no/minimal house rules. For the time being let us assume it is single sphere (well Vampire, Ghouls, and Mortals).
- 1980's Los Angeles
- El Paso–Juárez (twin cities on the US/Mexico border)
- London. Would London be "not-American" enough while also being close enough for people who might be afraid of screwing the pooch when it comes to RPing another culture?
I could have sworn there use to be an actual poll option but I can't find it now. Anyway, those were the options I found most intriguing. I love the 80's, I think the Mexican twin-cities idea could have fantastic RP potential, and RPing in not-America really does have some great appeal.
I know it was said in jest in the other thread but what about other time periods? I won't include it in the poll above but would Vampires of the Caribbean be viable for some?

RE: Anywhere for Requiem 2E?
@admiral Now that does sound fun. I also like the 1980's Los Angeles idea.

RE: Anywhere for Requiem 2E?
@admiral said in Anywhere for Requiem 2E?:
@zombiegenesis Please. No more Northeastern games. Boston is.. please no.
My original idea was to put it in San Diego but that just seemed...not vampy, you know? I get the exhaustion associated with the Northeast, however.
So how does everyone else feel about bloodlines? Too house rulesy? It seems Reno is the best source on the internet (that I can find) for them so my intention was to lean heavily on them if I moved forward with the project. Would most people just rather there were no bloodlines in a straight up 2E game?

RE: Anywhere for Requiem 2E?
I've been toying with the idea of a 2E game set in Boston but I'm curious about one of your points, no bloodlines? I understand 2E really doesn't give much in the way of support for bloodlines but I always thought they added some needed variety for Vampire. Do you mind if I ask why no bloodlines? Because almost all of them are essentially house ruled creations? Thanks!
